  1. This is probably why he's not a football manager.
  2. It's because the criticism is often hyperbolic and frankly foolish. He's better than a goal or assist every other game in terms of minutes played but you seem to think he's the next Brett Holman.
  3. To put things into perspective, 15 goal contributions in all comps would have been our 2nd most last season and 1st the season before.
  4. I think he's now comfortable within the side. He strikes me as quite a quiet, slightly introverted type who takes a while to fully trust people around him (which makes a lot of sense given his upbringing) but now he feels at home and part of the team.
  5. He's done well in his first season in a very difficult league - one that is far more demanding physically than what he's previously experienced. He's played 2605 of minutes in all comps and chipped in 15 goal contributions. That's not bad at all. We paid a lot of money for him, so I do get that there are additional layers of expectation on him.
  6. All of this. I think it's clear that Emery doesn't think Tim is up to it either, so we definitely need at least one CDM and possibly an additional youngster in that position.

I can't remember the last time a player was both a hero and one of our worst players in a game

    Unai Emery

The Henmania triple fist pump - VINTAGE Unai.
  9. From what I remember about him, he's very injury prone and that's in a much less intensive league than the prem.
  10. Apologies @MWARLEY2 - I got confused within the thread
  11. What? Famously poorly supported Roma and Galatasaray ?

They might but I think we'd be better off holding on to him for at least another season. He'll probably get a Championship loan next season.
  13. Screw the coefficient. It's in our hands to get us there regardless.
  14. Better than Oblak from what I could see last night.
  15. Well mostly by the club and Emery because they have to decide if he's a first-teamer or not. Rotation or back-up on 120k a week is not really something we can afford to do. From a fan's perspective, wages set a baseline of performance expectations; the higher they are, the more you expect from the player because of the financial resources committed. It doesn't make any sense to me to not be bothered about that sort of thing when the financial wellbeing of the club is incredibly important and as we saw under the Lerner/MON era, we have to be careful.
  16. It's because it's a factor that requires consideration. He's up there with some of our highest earners but isn't automatically first choice, yet, at least, and people are still comparing him to the impact Moreno had last season. I'm happy with him and wouldn't sell him but it really depends on how Emery rates him.
  17. Every team makes mistakes tbf. The injuries were the biggest factor in that IMO.
  18. Nah, he's right - the initial cost and profile of each player is quite different.
  19. Keep it up, Nico! All he can do from now until the end of the season is try his hardest and if he performs like that when he plays then he'll do his chances of signing permanently a world of good.
  20. Ferdi Kadioglu is... quite versatile:
  21. We'll have to see. There are plenty of options to play in that position as it is. In my opinion, the signing of Rogers was basically the end of Zaniolo's chances of being signed.
