  1. Or £100m if you are Liverpool or Chelsea. We can do better with £75m imo. Over the next two windows, I would agree other than, I think Ramsey and Buendia (when fit) will have that position covered.
  2. I have to say Douglas is looking good though. Ollie sadly, looks like he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo just now.
  3. Tremendous late goals, to beat "The team of the Eighties" and VAR (well done to the referee, who redeemed himself by ignoring VAR for our penalty). Way to turn our weekend round Villa!
  4. Adam Jennings sounds like a right barrel of laughs, doesn't he? In my opinion, Mr Jones should pursue this company's refusal to keep their promise through the courts!
  5. Sorry to see Phil go, it was an amazing signing when we got him and he showed some magnificent touches, during the games that he did play. I was glad to have seen him in our shirt and he came over as a decent chap, for someone who had already done so much in the game. He gave his best in the games that he played, seemed genuinely happy at the club and was keen to prove his worth to us. Unfortunately, injuries plagued him and now UE has made the decision to sanction his departure. Thanks for joining us (it gave us a boost) and for showing us those glimpses of the world class player that you had been, that I'm sure you and we had hoped to see more often.

Well, they can now start singing "when he gets the ball, he's bound to score.." at Stockport. I would love to see him get anywhere near to or to Two great players, both of whom had their playing time cruelly cut short, through injury.

He's making a big impression there, hopefully he can maintain this level of performance throughout the season and take some steps towards ending up the player, a lot of us think that he can become.
  8. I think your Dad was probably right (they usually are). Problem is that we signed him too late. We should have got him when he was at Sheffield Weds and running their midfield, rather than after he left Newcastle. That said, I wouldn't say he was our worst signing before Balaban & Djemba. What about this one?
  9. When he was at Newcastle, I agree with the above, but at least he wouldn't have scored against us in the 2010 LCF.
  10. HDE actually picked him up from BHX in his roller and took him to Villa Park, no wonder he left and signed for Arsenal. Here are a few more:
  11. Disappointing to put it mildly, but losing games at Newcastle and Liverpool isn't going to cost us a top six place. Getting anything there or at Arsenal or Manchester City, would be a bonus. We need to get something (preferably wins) from the reverse fixtures, but we don't want to get stuffed away like this too often. The early goal and losing Carlos, gave us a mountain to climb and for once, the international break is welcome, as it will give UE time to work with the players, who will remain at BH. As a former manager once (all too often) said: Bring on Palace!
  12. Worth an each/way bet, unless they meet us before the final of course....
  13. I wouldn't say struggle, but I doubt AZ will be a walk in the park. I'm as sure that UE will treat these games with respect, as I am that we will top the group. We can all remember games we were favourite's to win, that we didn't, so I won't take any games lightly until we have established a healthy lead, as we did with Hibs.
  14. I'm confident, but those bookies think we are running around the Bull Ring with the cup already. Coral have us clear 4/1 favourites. The second favourites are Fiorentina @ 13/2, followed by Eintracht Frankfurt @ 10/1, A Z & Lille @ 14/1, Club Brugge & Genk @ 20/1 and Fenerbahce 25/1. They say the bookies are always right, I really hope they are this time, because:
  15. Agreed, I did say we may have tried. I was thinking more of a second right back to replace Ashley Young and a second striker to fill in for Watkins (that said, Zaniola and Diaby may have been what UE wanted) rather than upgrades on Cash or Emi.
  16. I think that most of us accept that this has been a very good transfer window, particularly given the quality of the players that we have added to our squad and the relatively low cost of bringing them in. That said, I was hoping that we would pull out all of the stops to back UE and do all we possibly could to bring in all of the players that he actually wanted. We may well have tried to do that, only to find that some of those players that he wanted were either not available, didn't want to join us or were priced at a level that we considered excessive. This window seemed to me, when it opened as one during which we could look to add players, to an already strong squad. We were in a position of strength and needed to push on and early season injuries impacted on our squad numbers/strength. For whatever reason, our spending hasn't matched that of the clubs that we will be looking to compete with at the top end of the table this season. That won't make UE's job any easier this season. We don't want to be trotting out the excuse that the next transfer window, is a difficult time to bring in the right players, we should have the money that could have been spent in this window available to us then, if UE identifies a player or players he then wants. I am still confident we can have an exciting season, but for me this has been a very good window, rather than a great one. We have a better squad this year than last, but those injuries have conspired to hold us back a little and our net transfer spending, looks a tad disappointing, when compared to other clubs. We need to splash the cash in the next two windows and speculate to accumulate.
  17. Perhaps if they had been an English club. Probably one of the most likely reasons, that we might not lift the trophy. They wanted to ban us in 1982 after all. Hopefully our fans will not give UEFA any sniff of an opportunity to put us in the dock again, after what has been such a long wait for another European tour.
  18. Tough group to win, our first three European destinations are below (AZ Alkmaar, Legia Warsaw & Zrinjski Mostar):
  19. I won't accept that until the club says it or the clock strikes nine tonight and there is still nothing happening. The transfer window is all about unexpected last minute deals, at least for Sky. We have made real progress during this window to date, but haven't spent near to what I had hoped that we might (yet).
  20. Those kids looked really promising. Professional performance, respect to the Hibs fans and looking forward to the draw.
  21. I don't know whether that would burn him out, particularly as we could be in three cup finals. There is also a difference in wanting to and being able to due to suspension, injury, fatigue and loss of form. It is good news that he wants to do a Harry Kane and play every game, perhaps he won't copy Harry and will sign a new contract though.
