You're thinking of Mike Brearley. He was bought in to replace Ian Botham as captain during the 1981 Ashes series, Botham was not batting or bowling to his best as the burden of being captain seemed too much. Brearley wasn't the worlds finest cricketer but as you say he could captain a side. After Botham had the captaincy taken away from him his more natural game was released and he went on to almost single handedly beat the Australians and win the Ashes for England (although Bob Willis did help a lot). That 1981 series subsequently became known as "Botham's Ashes". If Brearley hadn't taken over as captain - cricketing history could have been oh so different.

You can go into as much detail as you like but just remember statistics are like a mini skirt - they give you good ideas but hide the most important thing!! and yes we are shit at defending corners - the question wasn't "Defending Corners - how many goals do we let in" the question was "Defending Corners - As Bad As People Think". We do defend poorly and only by luck have we not let as many goals in as people think.....the panic as soon as the opposition get a corner is visable.

Should the worst happen and we get relegated this season I really hope there are no photos/videos of Villa fans crying at the end of the game.
