  1. I'm the guy. Can't stand motown or, by extension, northern soul.
  2. My comment is in the right thread!
  3. My mum says this exact line all the time. Loves The Kinks.
  4. I genuinely enjoyed it. Thought it was the best headline performance since Radiohead's in 2017 (Radiohead are probably another unpopular opinion in and of themselves ) It was nice to see McCartney perform mostly stuff from his solo career. Even Springsteen and Grohl were looking at him in awe towards the end (like, they couldn't actually believe what they were a part of) I saw him at Glasto 2004, where he played mostly Beatles stuff and I'd swap it for last year's performance in a heartbeat.
  5. Nothing against Oasis, but if we're talking global success, you probably have to put Zeppelin and Queen in (as much as I'm not a massive fan of either). That's the crazy thing about UK rock music, there's probably a good twenty-odd bands jostling for those four spots and everybody's going to have their own opinion. Given this is a Villa forum, I'm sure lots would try making a case for Sabbath, for example. It's an embarrassment of riches!
  6. Well, he produced Beatles songs 'Free as a Bird' and 'Real Love' which were derived from Lennon's demos of the songs. So perhaps indirectly with Lennon on a personal level, but directly in terms of his actual work. He worked/played on Ringo's album, Time Takes Time. He also performed as part of a one-off band with Starr as part of a Lennon memorial concert.
  7. My unpopular (or, at least, subjectively - creative talking about creative - controversial) opinion is Paul McCartney is not only the greatest musician of all time, but the greatest pure creative talent, in ANY artistic field, this country has ever produced. Him materialising the song 'Get Back' on the Get Back documentary, in real time, and no cuts, is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. He DREAMT the song 'Yesterday' too (he thought it might have been one of the other Beatles' stuff - but they confirmed it wasn't). Also, to do the almost THREE HOUR Glastonbury set he did last year, at 80 years old, with no breaks, and hardly any Beatles songs was, not only wild, but a testament to how extensive his back catalogue of songs really is (I reckon a lot of people didn't realise he wrote the song off the Postcode Lottery ads. Also, the lyrics to the chorus of 'Waterfalls' by TLC are McCartney's). On the matter of Jeff Lynne though, I don't think ELO get anywhere near the credit they deserve. They're barely ever mentioned in lists of the UK's best ever bands. For me, they're on the Mount Rushmore of it, without question. He also worked with individual Beatles on their solo projects (as well as with Harrison in The Traveling Wilburys), so there's a direct connection there too. It's also crazy to think how many songs Lynne just wrote and gave to other artists. Lynne like McCartney, is a creative force of nature.
  8. Not saying it doesn't work. It's just personal preference.
  9. I'm never comfortable with the idea of CBs playing at either LB/RB. I'd much prefer players to just play in the positions they specialise in. This said, my doctorate isn't in football like our glorious Basque leader, so I trust in whatever he feels is best. In all seriousness though, I don't think there's going to be a set 'first 11' this season. It'll be an almost constant rotation, based on opponent and competition. Everyone will need to be prepared to play on any given match day. Add in another right back and we're in a real strong position, personale-wise.
  10. I don't mind which manufacturer it is, as long as their sizes are correct (ie: not skin-tight). I find Adidas to be the best for this. For me, this automatically eliminates Puma and Kappa. I found the Nike kits we used to have weirdly itchy (I think it was the recycled plastic bottles they were made from), so they're out too. Hummel have class designs and some of my favourite ever Villa kits. I'd opt for them or Adidas who, for ownership reasons, we're not allowed to have?
  11. Ditto, but on PES2020. I'm doing it all manually myself at the moment, but buying the option file sounds like a much better option. Just had a flashback to when you had to buy a memory card off ebay for the option files on PS1&2, and then on a USB stick for PS3. Crazy times. I guess the only question I had was, because e-football is limited in terms of clubs and whatnot, can an option file add in game play modes, leagues, and whatnot? I don't see how this works, unless they're implementing code from previous titles to make it so. What I don't want to go is get e-football 2023 and then be stuck with about 12 teams to pick from, none of which being Villa
  12. Vinicius getting hardcore bullied by Konsa and Carlos tonight.
  13. Apparently you can edit in teams/kits/etc on the newest version of e-football to add leagues/teams/players and create your own version of the offline modes last seen in PES2020? There's a website with the download files and such. I don't fully understand the scope of it (although I'm well-versed in kit/player patching) as I don't see how you can create game-modes or add new teams. It looks as if you can download a patch to essentially turn e-football into a new PES game, but with all new graphics and whatnot. Anyone done/doing this? I'm still manually updating PES 2020 squads/players as I really can't get on with Fifa.
  14. Not transfer window related, but this, 100%. It's wild how they managed to con the system into reaching world #1. Proves how broken the ranking system is, really. To keep this relatively on-topic though, I trust in whatever Unai wants to do with him, although I do see the usefulness in the qualities he brings to the table. As you say, it's different to what we already have... which is a good thing.
  15. Don't agree with the Donk slander. He hasn't really done much wrong. Nothing particularly notable and exclusive to him. We effectively need 1.5 to 2 first XIs for this season, playing in four competitions. Donk would be a good starter in the domestic cups, for instance.
  16. I love how they didn't even have temporary floodlights or anything. Just straight-up street football style.
  17. I used to enjoy them, but these days I'm happy to sit back and await official confirmation. Anything more feels like wasted energy on my part
  18. Thanks, all. All changes have now been made. I've provisionally set the draft for 8pm UK time on Saturday September 2nd. I would normally have had it be on the Sunday, but Villa are playing at Anfield on that date so figured we'd have it on the Saturday just in case anybody was going.
  19. Very much a "let's have a look at cha" sort of game for the young uns.
  20. Look at our own Jordan Veretout. Was touted as a prospect in France, couldn't make it happen for us, but has gone one to be one of the better (not top tier, but probably the level below) players in Europe in recent years. Regular starter at Fiorentina, Roma, and Marseille isn't exactly a joke. Perhaps this time it will be the other way around and we'll get the better end of the deal (if, indeed, we are interested).
  21. Despite my De Bruyne comparison on the previous page, I agree with you on this. A loan to a top Dutch or big-ish German team would be ideal, if we signed him. If not, at least we have the right people in place to help build him up domestically. It's just a case of game-time then, which is currently the issue at Milan with him getting a few minutes here and there.
  22. The comments surrounding this guy are eerily similar to the comments about De Bruyne back when he was the same age at Chelsea. Not strong enough, not fast enough, lacking confidence. Not saying he'll become as good, but the similarities are there. Clearly a technically gifted player from what I've seen. Just needs a bit of nurturing.
  23. Okay! There's no need to take the last two votes as they'll have no deciding impact on the tally. Results: 1: 0.25 points per carry should be awarded to RBs - 7/12 - passed 2: PPFD (point per first down) instead of PPR (point per reception) - 1/12 - not passed 3: Addition of a line backer spot? - 3/12 - not passed 4: WR/TE flex (to free up some RBs) - 7/12 - passed Changes for this coming season: 0.25pts per carry for RBs WR/TE flex Trade review scrapped (just keep it respectful) 1 day waivers I'll sort the draft time/date later, but it's likely to be on the Sunday before the season kicks off (best for avoiding pre-season injuries) and somewhere between 6 and 8 UK time.
