If they lose Bony (and fail to replace him well), they are down IMO. They are demanding something stupid like £20m for him, so are obviously trying hard to keep him, but I wonder how keen Bony himself is to stay there with the supposed interest from Liverpool. Stupid? We weren't saying that last summer with our Benteke saga. They need to get every penny they can.

I think it's a signing you'd barely notice at another club, maybe think hhhmmm, is that the guy from the world cup? But for Villa it's very exciting to sign 1. A player who excelled at the world cup 2. A South American 3. A player who is costing a decent chunk of money (by recent Villa standards) 4. A player in a position we really need and have done for some time

Vermaelen to Barcelona. Good player when fit but it seems that beyond Suarez they had no transfer plan for the summer.

We'd all be pretty excited if he hadn't had that spell at Liverpool! He's certainly a higher calibre of player than any we've signed recently and he'll likely be better than last season after some experience in the league.

He stood behind some of the greatest players in the world and eventually got found out. Took them long enough. He was a good goalie to be fair, just never world class but I haven't seen a rapid decline in his abilities, he has always been a bomb scare. Looks good on the youtubes though and his trophy cabinet is second to none. Eh?! He was easily one of the best for a long time but his level has certainly dropped. A move could revitalise him, he has another 5 years in him.
