Awful decision making which he badly needs to work on. Could do with alot of finishing practice too. Can't knock his work rate though.

Makoun was poor defensively, especially 2nd half. Blackpool played with three in the middle vs our two and Reo Coker was getting over run with no support in there at times. It was always going to be a red card which is a big shame to not have him for the next three games. Looks like Petrov gets back in. ffs!

Some of the pictures in this topic bring back some proper good memories. I've still got all my subbuteo stuff in the attic. Got loads of it plus all the extra stuff you buy like the stand, scoreboard, fa cup, premier league trophy and all that. Did anyone else have the orange tango football aswell lol? The wrestling figures aswell, I've got hundreds of them boxed away in the attic. Also had those claret Villa curtains. Oh the memories :-)

Very disappointed today. AGAIN! The marking for Blackpools goal was shocking. Once again decision making by individual players was poor and it played a big part in us not coming away with the win. NRC was good today. I thought Makoun was quite shit defensively and NRC was often left over run in the middle on his own. Houllier should have realised this and made a change a long time before Makoun was sent off. Dunne and Collins looked fairly solid. Walker was great getting up and down the right all game. There's no way Redknapp will let us sign him. Once again Ash playing off Bent did NOT work but Houllier keeps using this system. Get him back on the wing for **** sake! Ash pissed me off today anyway. I'm fed up of him dropping like a fly all the time and then sulking about it when the ref don't give him a free kick. Howard Webb was poor but there was no way he was going to give Young anything after all his theatrics. Gabby out wide is beyond a joke now. I feel sorry for Bent as we have created virtually nothing for him since he's signed for us. Houllier needs to sort the tactics out big time. The shocking goal difference is a worry too.

Seen a fair few calls for Barry to play the ACM role. Not quite sure why as I haven't seen anything in his play (admittedly I have only seen him a few times) to suggest that he can play this role and get in and around Bent, or beyond when necessary, to become the second striker? To me he is a deeper lying CM'er/playmaker, not dissimilar to Makoun in many respects? I would play Bradley in there as I think he will be our new Milner and will score goals playing off Bent. Bannan could easily play that role. He's creative and has the ability to provide the killer pass. With two midfielders behind him it would allow him to express himself abit more. I don't get why people are saying put Bradley there when nobody knows how well he is going to play for us yet.

As impressive as Jon Jones is I think Shogun will be too much for him. I'm still in abit of shock after seeing that devastating kick from Anderson Silva GSP has a major decision to make once he's done with Jake Shields. If he moves up to fight Anderson Silva then it will be the biggest fight in UFC history.

Tenerife is quality for a lads holiday. I've been there twice on lads holidays and I've also been there to dj three other times. There are still alot of places over there that sell pints for 1 euro. If you can't pull in Tenerife then you may aswell give up and become a monk! Great weather too

One thing is for certain. Blackpool will not sit back. They will attack us at every opportunity and the way we are defending at the moment they will cause us alot of problems. Holloway will be desperate not to lose this so that he can mention our Charlie Adam bids in his post match interview. Cuellar is a MUST for this game. Whether it's at right back or centre half I don't care as long as he plays. I wouldn't throw Bradley straight in, it's too risky. Put him on the bench. Drop Petrov for NRC. Ash back on the wing, Downing on the other wing, drop Gabby to the bench and bring Bannan in to play infront of Makoun and NRC. Unfortunately we all know it will be more or less the same players in the same positions as they played against Fulham. Must win game is an understatement but if someone offered me a draw right now I'd gladly take the point as I can see us losing if Houllier doesn't sort his tactics out!

Makoun is making Petrov look silly. He's class. You can see that already. I'd ideally like to see him push forward abit more as he has the ability to provide killer passes but I don't expect him to be doing to much of this whilst he is playing in a 2 man midfield with Petrov

Just got home from the game. Very disappointed today although I did predict that I could see us dropping points today when you take the lead twice especially at home then you should not be dropping points. It feels like a defeat. Playing Ash in the hole has got to stop NOW! Get him back on the wing. Gabby cannot play left wing. I'd rather see him dropped than play left wing. How the **** is Darren Bent meant to score goals if he isn't getting the service. His movement is quality, we just can't feed him enough. Friedel at fault for both goals. The first one he should have parried it round the post for a corner and the second one he should have come and clattered everyone to make sure that ball was his. Makoun is great on the ball. I'd like to see him push forward a little bit more as he does have the quality to supply killer passes. Petrov was awful. Some people on here haven't got a clue. If you went to the game today and you thought Petrov had a good game then I'm sorry but you need to punch yourself very hard. He's too negative. He very rarely plays a forward pass. Whenever we get some momentum going he slows it back down and either plays it backwards or square. He looked knackered after 30 mins. Plus my point that I made in the Petrov thread was well and truly proved today. I say it all the time but we are much more solid at the back when Cuellar plays. He'd should be the first defender on the team sheet! Anyone know why Bradley wasn't involved? I would have liked to have seen him come on as a sub today as I feel throwing him in against a team like Blackpool away could be risky. Blackpool is going to be a very tough game. The way they play combined with the way we are defending they will cause us alot of problems. Bring Gabby on last 20 mins This is a must win game. Fulham are a tough nut to crack plus they have found abit of good form lately so I can't see it being easy. Ashley Young needs to be put back on the wing as he is far more effective out there. I'm not keen on how we are set up at the moment with him playing behind the striker! It looks like Bradley will start and I think it's definitely safe to say Makoun will. We need to sort this shocking goal difference out. I'm not blaming Walker but we look much more solid at the back with Cuellar in the team so I'd like to see him start. I'm going for a Villa 2-1 win but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if we dropped points!

Alot of positives can be taken from tonight. We actually played some nice football in parts. Absolutely shocking start though, school boy defending, Dunne's positioning was awful. It reminded me abit like one of the Germany goals against England at the World Cup. Makoun was quality. I gave him my man of the match vote. Really good performance from him. Can't believe Clark let Nani bully him off the ball for Utd's second goal. Great ball in from Nani to be fair though. How did nobody close Vidic down quick enough? He took it well but everyone was caught on their heels by the look of it. All three goals could and should have been avoided. Friedel played well. He usually does though. When Ashley Young was out on the wings he was at his most dangerous. He needs to be put back on the wing in my opinion because him playing behind the striker isn't effective enough for me!

Just think, if we win this game and I mean IF then beat Fulham at the weekend, other results go our way and we'd be in the top 6 lol. What a turn around that would be within the space of two weeks! Unfortunately I can't see us winning, not because we aren't good enough but because of how jammy Utd are! Saying that though, If we go 4-5-1, battle our socks off for 90 mins plus whatever time Fergie wants added on and you never know. I would love nothing more than for us to give them their first league defeat of the season on their own turf. Not getting my hopes up though.

I was devastated when the inevitable happened and we sold Milner. I thought getting Ireland as part of the deal would help cushion the blow but unfortunately it hasn't worked out at all. Such a shame too as he is a decent player. I remember when he first signed and there was an interview that he'd done and he was saying Villa got a great deal as he is alot better than Milner lol. Do us a favour you delusional tw@! I'd drive Ireland to Manchester to dump him and take Milner back to Bodymoor Heath anytime (I'm allowed to dream)

Fifa by a million miles! I agree with Stevo985. I used to love pro evo but then as soon as they both came out on PS3 Fifa has stolen the limelight and is in no mood to give it back anytime soon

Good win today. I'm really pleased with this confidence boosting unbeaten run that we are on. I was abit disappointed that Makoun wasn't involved. This would have been a great chance to get another 45-60 mins of English football under his belt. We still looked fairly comfortable when we went down to ten men. The main thing is we are in the draw for the next round.

It makes me sick that a Villa fan pretending to be a Small Heath fan has scored the goal that has sent them to Wembley!

Decent debut for Baker. It was always going to be tough for him being up against a player like N'Zogbia but overall I thought he did well.

Just got home. Great win and overall decent performance. Last 10 mins were nervy though as we can never do things the easy way. I'm just glad we held on as these 3 points were massive. Couldn't fault anyone's work rate again. Thought Baker had a decent game considering he was up against a good player in N'Zogbia. Collins was superb again and so were Dunne and Collins. Downing pissed me off with some of his decision making. Why did he shoot from a tight angle instead of playing it across for Bent to tap in from 5 yards in the first half! Can't really knock him too much though as he worked hard. Glad Gabby finally scored, even if it was harder to miss they all count and hopefully will do his confidence the world of good. Bent worked hard up top again, probably should have scored first half but oh well. Makoun looked good considering he's hardly trained with us. He'll be quality once he's upto speed with things. Overall I'm delighted. Once we've got Utd out the way I think that we can really kick on. Confidence is back

We are not in a position to be rotating the squad. If Houllier wants to rest players he can do it on Saturday for the cup game against Blackburn.
