  1. would like to see him at least given another chance. I can understand why some don't rate him based on his performances for Villa but I have a sneaking suspicion PL might be able to get more out of him.... He never got a chance to settle under GH and for all we know "he who shall not be named" may have ordered him to play in a style that he couldn't at all play, a style completely alien to him, he wouldn't be the first player to have that put on him. Hope he can become a useful member of the squad, Lambert is known not to be scared of completely changing tactics, team and shape for different matches and evan during matches, Makoun might just be needed in that case, football I think is all about versatile squads and adaptive tactics these days, our new manager I get the impression is championing this as opposed the last manager who was stuck in the late 70s!
  2. personally I think Stan should be made club captain, he may not play again but I still think and hope he has a role to play at the club, especially as he is old mates with PL. As regards the starting 11 captain can we please stop talking up Dunne - if he is given the arm band that would indicate he has a future here, a calamity of a defender, tries hard but we need better. Am happy for him to stay another season if it means getting rid of at least 2 or preferably all of Hutton, Colins and Warnock but after the end of next season he needs to be gone for good. Back on topic out of the current players available I suppose I would go with Given, can't see anyone else really having the ability/character/experience but I don't like goal keepers as captain an hope as Richard said the next captain isn't here yet.
  3. and playing exciting football and maybe a bit of a cup run or two.
  4. why is the Nike swoosh logo on the promo? surely it sould be Macron if they making the kits now?
  5. done well last season but to old and I would like to see PL build things around bent and bring through Weiman
  6. It is a meaningless appointment if there is no financial backing for Lambert to work with. Can't believe he won't be backed financially... don't think he'd be interested if there wasn't cash to spend and build his own team with. He needs a lot of players... Left back, right back, defensive midfielder, few wingers, a striker, back up keeper, another midfielder for the middle. Agree but like someone else mentioned in the rebuild thread if he at least gets shot of one of colins or dunne and one of hutton or warnock then thats a good start for this coming season... he's gonna need time and I'm happy to give him time, think this could be a good appointment and from apart from being swayed by the OGS hype he was my choice immediately after AM got the chop.

  8. yeh, he played over 300 games for them, was in the team that beat Inter I think in the 90s...
  9. Good point - my cousin who gets to a lot of City games reckons PL is the motivator and signs the players, Culverhouse is the tactician, picks the team, sets of the formation, and does the subs, so asuming PL does come to Villa I hope Culverhouse is brought in as well. Think a lot of Canary fans would like to see him as manager though.
  10. yeh, hoping this might be the case, VB agent said they looking for a project, villa certainly could be classed as that with the state we've been in for the last 2 years.
  11. Not sure how I would feel if it was RDM... asked 3 weeks ago I'd have said yeh get him in, anything better than the scottish manager. If we were end up with RDM then I'll support him and give him time, especially if he signs up Bosingwa now hes a free agent and gets shot of Hutton
  12. Same... Given has been and is a good keeper but personally I'd prefer we drafted in someone like Ruddy from Norwich, less wages and good potential.
  13. I like the sound of that, no problem with that scenario.
  14. just watched the OGS youtube video and I like the idea of him at Villa... Bit more of a risk I suppose than Lambert or Martinez but equally as exciting and quite possibly it could prove to be a better appointment in the long run, given time. If he comes to us I'll support him, not expecting quick turnaround on results but hoping he can build and grow with Villa over a good number of years. Villa led by the baby faced assassin, could be good
  15. i work 5 mins walk from Carrow Rd, might pop down there and see if I can speak to PL and clear up all the gossip.
  16. I really don't think they would have McCarthy on the list evan, like some one else pointed out contact could just mean his agent calling Villa and dropping a few hints he's keen via the media... Although preferable to McCleish to sign up McCarthy would be completely ridiculous and would almost have made sacking McCleish pointless, although the board have previously been worryingly inept in their last managerial selection process, taking them on their word they seem to at least be acknowledging that now and are saying the right things to idicate they have listened to the fans.
  17. if I were manager I'd pay off the mortgage and buy a new car.
  18. I live in Norwich and Canary fans worship Lambert, fair dues though he did save the club pretty much single handedly. Norwich fans are funny bunch, a lot of them that I know seem to think that Lambert will go but not yet because he has "started something that he will want to see through" i.e keeping Norwich in the prem then go to United or someone (bemused face)... Personally I think money and ambition talks. If Lambert gets an offer to at least double or evan triple his current salary of apparently (I read today) £15,000 a week and get the chance to turn around a lets call us sleeping giant of a club then why is he going to stay at Norwich? He has major finacial constrictions (much worse than he would at Villa), he could stay at Norwich and have the dreaded second season syndrome and then he's stuck cos the job offers all will have gone away. I think Lambert will be aware this might be his chance and would be best to take it.
  19. what the **** - in the time I wrote my last post people are saying Megson and McCarthy are poss favs for it... Please NO, I can't believe that could happen, but then i didn't believe McCleish would. Worried now!
  20. back on the site now AM gone, don't know what to think about who I want as manger now... If asked a year ago I would have said someone like Deschamps or AVB, now I am not so sure. After the damage that the AM era has done to us I think the main things I want the next manger to full fill are a) is going to attempt to play good football and will look at the long term plan and can work with the younger players and integrate signings from abroad as well as from UK c) get rid of Hutton, Dunne, Colins and Warnock. I think I would be happy with any of the current favourites, Martinez, Lambert, Poyet but each still have certain characteristics that I hope they could improve on, for example Martinez needs to prove he can build a team to play consistently well not just have good spells here and there, Lambert worries me that he might be MON part 2 and only sign UK based players as he doesn't seem to have much experience with players from abroad although on the flip side he did play abroad and I believe he may have trained as a coach abroad as well so maybe its only because of finances he hasn't brought foreign players at Norwich. Poyet I just worry that he is possibly bit to much of a risk at the moment, but then he like all the others he could become an even better manager and we don't go for him now then we may miss the boat on them in as few years time as the bigger clubs will be looking. Just not sure. I don't envy the boards job right now, I hope the Villa job is not viewed to much as a difficult job, the media have done their best to make it look so.
  21. me neither, AM is still a poor manager and should not be at Villa.
