Saints sack Adkins

There's no doubt this was planned for weeks but it reflects very poorly on the board

Apparently the chairman (a banker) told the assembled squad and manager at the start of the season that most of them weren't good enough. He then lined up the replacement several weeks ago. Adkins learned of his sacking from the television, shortly before Cortese told him.

Classy.

A phone call from our chairman wouldn't go amiss either.

Whahaha, now after a few games is adkins the man to keep us up?

Do you know what Adkins had in his favour? Stablity and cohesion, something offered by a manager who's been in a position for a substantial period of time. We won't ever get that by choping and changing our manager. We need to ride it out and give Lambert time.

Aside from that it's an appalling decision by the Saints board, will only help our survival plight.

I've never been a huge fan of Adkins or Southampton, especially after last week and the dive.

But this really is terrible but can can only benefit us. How can the players get on board with this when they were starting to do ok! How can he motivate the likes of Lambert when he can't speak English?

This is an awful decision on their part. Big result today for Villa and i'll start to feel slightly more confident.

Agreed we won't get stability 'by choping and changing our manager' but we would get cohesion and stability with the right manager in place.

I guess when you are in the Football Management caper then you kinda have to be philosophical about getting sacked. Getting sacked in these circumstances when everybody in football seems to think it was unjust, you have a proven track record of success in recent years and are by all accounts a popular and likeable guy is probably a good thing when it comes to getting offers from other clubs. Adkins isn't going to struggle to find another job.

Blimey perhaps you are right. Perhaps what we need is a young and ambitious manager who has rebuilt a club on a limited budget, with a mix of bargain signings and young players and gained back to back promotions.

If only we could find someone like that.....
