Ron Vlaar

Howard Hodgson just retweeted someone saying they saw vlaar in a casino at 2am. Maybe his injury has kept him out of action for today.

Is okore ready?

I stopped reading after that.

The problem with Vlaar is his injury record. Missed six PL games last season and eleven the season before that. Two already this season and counting. Great player if he on the pitch but it just makes buying Senderos  a smart move.

A lot of people don't believe he has an injury issue even though he's missed nearly 25% of league games since he's been here. By the way this season is going that isn't going to change.

Cue the shouts of he hasn't got an injury problem because 'insert some other injury prone player' has missed more games.

Should have cashed in when his value was obscene given his age, injury proneness and length remaining on his contract.

This wasn't the point and you know it.

I don't know what you think his value was but the numbers that were being banded around at the summer were hardly obscene.

I thought they were.

In line with other utterly ridiculous sums of money like lovrens fee? Yes!

But that doesn't mean people can't have the opinion that transfer fees lower than that are still obscene - which I do.

Cash in how? As far as we are aware no bid was ever made for him.

How were they obscene though? He's a very good defender and he's not as injury prone as some like to make out.

Well yes that's a fair point tbh.

Tho perhaps lamberts shouts of he's not for sale put off any potential bidders. Though I appreciate that's for from certain to have been the reason.

I suppose my point was, I wouldn't have been as bothered to see him sold as others would, for the reason that were witnessing already, only 4/5 games into the season.

Yesterday was the first game of the season where we've conceded more than one goal and Vlaar just happened to be absent. Coincidence?

I'm not saying we always get smashed when he doesn't play or that big defeats only happen when he isn't there but there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of big defeats when he isn't playing.

Well I think he is injury prone. If you have a different variation on that then that's fair enough. He is a very good defender and vital to us, which means his injury's (I believe more often than not) cause us greater problems than they would any other team because the team loses all leadership and can't put a run together. Ok the Liverpool game was a different story but any football fan will know that players like senderos and baker aren't going to be playing like that for prolong periods of time. And low n behold, as soon as we go behind.......

Sorry, I'm missing your question. Though I have already answered it in my original post:

I think it's obscene because

Age

Injury proneness

Contract length

I also think his World Cup heroics (which will never be repeated in a villa shirt IMO - for various reasons) bumped it up massively to a value not in line with his prem performances.

No coincidence at all mantis. Hence why we can't afford him to be injured. Hence why I think 8m for him would have been useful in replacing him with 1 maybe 2 defenders who are solid yet perhaps don't miss as many games. That's not easy granted.

He's 29 - for a CB that's about the prime of their careers. He could have another 4-5 years left at the top level.

He's not that injury prone.

Contract length I'll give you, but lots of players have gone for big fees in the last year of their contact.

The fact that we often struggle without Vlaar isn't his fault - it's a problem with the players around him. If anything that should enhance his price as it shows just how much of a good leader he is.

Lets find those 2 defenders with 8 million. Easy job this football management isn't it?

No Stefan it's not. I totally agree. Do you know what? You're absolutely bang on the money!! Bang on!!

In fact, if you take a moment to FULLY read my post that your sarcastic point is in response to, you will find that I highlighted that it's not easy.
