I'd question the board if they have Allardyce on the shortlist

Agreed, even thinking about appointing him shows a lack of ambition IMO

I'd rather Allardyce on the shortlist than Ranieri.

I wonder why that is.

Yes. Just because his style is plain ugly doesn't mean it is bad. I'd like Ranieri to take a League One side into a top 8 Premiership team, or a bottom of the Prem Blackburn team into a mid-table team, or have a Allardyce-less Newcastle team relegated when he left them in the top half.

He has proved himself where ever he has gone.

i wouldn't complain if he was appointed, i'd like to see what he could do if he had a bit of money to spend, i'm fairly sure he'd be a success

The thought makes me shiver, spending £50 million and not even be able to pass a ball. Then you have the left over shit when he leaves. :| :(
