TheSufferingVilla
Heading in less than two weeks, no hotel booked yet as we are waiting to hear if wife's family in the area can fix us up with some deals. Would love to hear some thoughts, ideas, tips, warnings, etc. Gambling will be on a very small scale due to limited funds so I'm looking for things to check out other than wandering the various casino's insulting people while dressed in an Elvis outfit (which I plan to be doing 50% of the time). Also Villa vs Blues, where do I watch it?

bromsgrove_avfc
http://www.blondieslasvegas.com/ - Good central venue for footie if it's on during reasonable hours. Otherwise http://www.crownandanchorlv.com/ a small cab ride away. Go here to let off some steam - http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/ Drink, eat and be merry. I love the place! bickster Posted October 18, 2010 Moderator Share Posted October 18, 2010 so I'm looking for things to check out other than wandering the various casino's insulting people while dressed in an Elvis outfit (which I plan to be doing 50% of the time). I've been to Vegas when there was a convention of Elvii, Surounded by Elvii of all shapes sizes and colour, from different periods of the singers career. Most surreal. I think the oddest was definitely Dwarf Fat Thai Elvis from the Vegas Years (though he had a blue quiff)

ME
Go to the old strip if you want to win money and see free shows. Freemont street is where it's at. Agreed about the Tropicana. But prepare yourself for the fact that it always smells a bit like vomit. If you are going to gamble on the strip I suggest the Flamingo or the Luxor. I've never seen anyone win big anywhere else. This website is good for keeping an eye one deals http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com/ What type of show do you want to see? We are hopefully going to see the Beatles 'Love' at Mirage which is meant to be excellent.
villa4europe
If you want to get pissed then buy the novelty beers on the street and carry them round, yes you look stupid with an nfl ball full of beer but its got 4 bottles worth in it for $15 compared to $8 per bottle in the bars... Free drinks and food at the tables/machines wasnt frequent enough to dine out on imo New york coaster is a proper bone rattler! nascar is better Had some amazing steak, house of the blues at mand bay was probably the best The irish pub in nyny does a good pint but rok next door, complete with its guitars and everything on the poster is shocking, all the clubs we went to go in were bloody hip hop or rnb People in vegas really couldnt get their heads round me wearing winklepickers, but i got invited into just about everywhere, you dont have to really dress up to be considered dressed up
Dom_Wren
Ive watched games in ESPN zone in NYNY and at the Irish bar in Monte Carlo. Both good venues, the ESPN one is more of a sit down and eat place with the TV's at the table a nice touch, the Irish Bar in Monte Carlo is MASSIVE and will give you enough space to keep away from any knuckledraggers as to avoid having to shower. If you want to have a bet and watch the game, the Wynn sportsbook is nice. Decent Curry house off the strip behind the wynn, Cheapest gambling is at hooters, 3$ blackjack, but watch out for Samuel L Jackson.
villa4europe
i couldnt get my head round the sportsbook, especially for football, couldnt get them to do any markets, iirc i went to the massive one at balleys they only had overall prem winner and didnt bother after that

They're also likely to only be added the night before kickoff. You'll also probably have better luck at a place like Caesar's or one of the other massive resorts for having football posted. Odds will probably be American-style moneylines which can be a bit of a different experience (especially if you're betting an odds-on favorite). kingphil
Freemont Street is by far the best value for drinks - mad cocktail mixes for $7 from a casino called Mermaids. There is such a lot to do for free as many hotels (along the strip) will try to entice you in. Worth looking round most of the big hotel/casinos and the themes they have. The Welcome to Las Vegas sign (about a mile up from Mandalay Bay Luxor - pretty tidy inside, so worth a look. MGM - You get to see the Lions New York New York - Well, this may not appeal to you, seeing as it's your home town, but may as well give a go. Whilst not free, the rollercoaster in NYNY is well worth it. The new City Center complex is now fully constructed (it wasn't when I went last year) - and I hear it's pretty impressive - Go take a look. Bellagio - Probably one of the finest looking hotels (inside and out). Well worth exploring and of course watching the fountains. Planet Hollywood - Go into 'Dessert Passage' and watch the thunderstorm The Mirage - The inside waterfall, the white tigers, the dolphins and of course the Volcano Treasure Island - The Sirens of T.I show The loads more, so I'll be back later
kingphil
Back with some more details now :- Ceasars Palace - Great to walk through the forum shops. Also catch the Fall of Atlantis and Festival Fountains (which are free). Excalibur - Slightly tacky, albeit one of the only strip casino's to offer $5 Black Jack. They also have cheap fairground stalls and a variety of motion rides. Mandalay Bay - Well worth checking out the pool area (probably the best pool in Vegas) and also the Shark Reef ($17). The Venetian - Fantastic looking hotel, which of course offers gondola rides ($16). Worth walking around to enjoy the sights. Circus Circus - Bottom end of Strip, but it houses the Adventuredome - which has around 4/5 rides. Paris - The cocktail girls are the best looking in here. Also, the change to go up the Eiffel Tower (around $12) The Rio - Slightly off the Strip, but well worth a visit for the 'Show in the Sky' (every hour from 7pm - midnight Thurs thru to Sunday). The Rio also has The Voodoo Lounge which is a nightclub giving fantastic views of the strip. The Stratosphere - A must quite frankly to ride THE BIG SHOT. They have other rides there as well, and I believe a new parachute kind of ride which looks bloody scary. The Wynn - Bloody lovely to go in and explore. There are still plenty of hotels/casinos I haven't mentioned - Casino Royale (opposite The Mirage) tends to sell beer for $1.99 and has pretty good gaming machines - but part of Vegas is checking out the big, bold and brass hotels - not just the gambling. Off course there is the Canyon to go and explore. How you get there is dependant on your budget and time. A helicopter ride is probably the best experience and takes around 4 hours (costs anywhere around $250). You could go via coach or small plane - but whilst cheaper, takes longer and of course you don't actually land in the rim of the Canyon. Sadly, I can't recommend any 'gentlemen's' establishments as I've always had my wife with me on my visits and would imagine she wouldn't be too happy about me visiting one. villa4europe
The bellagio also has the best bakery ive ever been to, the one with the worlds biggest chocolate fountain, quite cheap too iirc i had some chocolate thing that was mind blowing
