The league table suggests otherwise :)

Higginbotham's a first teamer. It's like saying Bouma is our reserve. He's not really. It's only when he's coming back from injury.

true :D

I meant I thought they played their squad players to keep their match fitness up aswell as players coming back from injury, this was their side against us earlier in the season:

STOKE: Simonsen, Griffin, Cort, Higginbotham, Pugh, Soares, Arismendi, Faye, Tonge, Sidebe, Kitson. Substitutes: Parton, Cohen (for Cort), Wedderburn (for Faye), Lund, Moult (for Sidebe).

I thought this was a regular occurence

The playoff final is on the Bank Holiday Monday - I may go up for this in that case.

Villa will face Manchester United in the reserves play-off final on Monday May 3 at Old Trafford.

Villa stormed to the southern title for the third season in a row while the Red Devils were crowned northern winners last night for the first time since 2006, following the defeat of fellow challengers Liverpool to Everton.

The deciding clash will have a 3pm kick-off.

Kevin MacDonald reckons the togetherness of Villa's second string played a massive part in them winning a trio of titles.

After the claret and blues clinched the league crown with a victory over Fulham, the reserve team manager was quick to hail the "tremendous" spirit among the players.

MacDonald says the players are always routing for each other - even those who have gone out on loan.

Several of the title-winning reserve squad also featured in the club's summer Peace Cup triumph - and MacDonald feels this may also have had a galvanising effect.

He told AVTV: "The camaraderie of this group has been tremendous. Even though one or two have gone away on loan, they still get in touch and they might come back and watch the reserves play.

"A lot of it started when five or six of them went with the gaffer to the Peace Cup at the start of the season and it sort of helped galvanise one or two of them that way.

"They've all done well and they've all improved in their own ways."

Argh, Ryan Noble scores his 10th goal of the reserve season and becomes sole top scorer. Weimann will need at least 1 against Pompey to draw back level.

It's a 1-leg playoff. Last season it was at Villa Park (Southern Champions), this season it is at O/T (Northern Champions).

Manchester United's reserves suffered their first defeat of the year tonight (that's year, not season)
