Just seen Marschall is in goal for MK Dons, didn't play in the last leg. Nine appearances ten goals conceded including today so far, doesn't seem too bad, considering he only joined in Janaury, and missed around ten games through injury

Well he ended up conceding five goals, not sure he could have done much about any of them though, some terrible defending from MK Dons' defeners, maybe second goal he could have done better, but Crawley striker was incredibly accurate with his shot, so I think was more a brilliant pinpoint shot than Marscahll's fault. Still not a great end to his loan.

Another take away is that Emre Tezgel looked very good when he came on for MK Dons, and playing for a team that were already well beat by then. Looking at his stats in League Two this season, he has three goals and three assists in 545 minuts of football, which is very good for a eighteen year old, surely will be part of Stoke's first team next season, presuming someone doesn't take him off them

The reviews I read on Twitter prior to him being replaced by Kelly were not nice.

Seemed to do great at Gateshead? Lower level but brought them up from relegation to mid table

It will be interesting to see what Feeney and O'Reilly have picked up from their experience at Real Union. Obviously very little playing time but assume they've been training with the seniors every week (when fit) and having to properly fight for their place in the side. I wonder who we'll see go there next season.

If we let Olsen's contract expire and bump Gauci up to second choice, I think there's a chance we go with Zych as third choice next season. He's made a couple of high profile mistakes but has largely been very good in Poland, clear 1st choice for his team and starting every week. Sinisalo is ready for Championship level, or something similar abroad, so it would be a waste for him to sit in our reserves when he could increase significantly in value if he proves himself at the next level. Marschall really needs another successful loan to get back on track. Wright has trained a lot with the first team and performed well for the U21s, now he needs his first loan experience.

The highlights are here:

Safe to say he did not cover himself in glory here, especially the first two goals, there should be no chance of either going in and in both cases it's because his starting position is way off.

Is it weird that they didn't play Josh or Tommi for most of the year, then throw them both in to start the most crunch game of their season?

Great news that they survived. Maybe they'll get some more of our players next season and we'll find better fits for their team.

Apologies @MrBlack. I **** that one right up. Tommi was an unused substitute. Josh got a decent little run towards the end of the season which is good.

Lovely summary, @Hornso For my money, your posts are some of the best stuff on all of VT. Thank you for all the updates.

Sad to see that a number of players are going out on loan and not seeing many minutes. That doesn’t help anyone. I know it’s not fully under the control of the club, but it’s an area for improvement. Even if the likes of Afoka or Smith don’t make it at the highest level, going to a club where they get minutes makes it more likely we get a fee for them like we did with Azaz. You’d imagine we’d get good money for the likes of Sinisalo.

Excellent work @Hornso 🍻

Out of interest, we previously had Jedinak as a Loans manager who would supposedly oversee how players were doing and move them to other clubs if they weren't playing. Do we have anyone doing that now?  Goalkeepers aside, there does seem quite a few who barely played. That could be that they went to too high a level of football to get into the team or they just underperformed compared to others in training, it's hard to say.

Thanks for the kind words. Got a bit sloppy towards the end of the season. Need to tighten up again after an off-season on the beach or in my case, hiding away from the cold.

I had a look in January and at the time we had Adam Henshall as our Head of Emerging Talents & Loans, who has been in the role since March 2021. Jedinak was underneath him in the role of Loan Manager. Jedi was replaced by Tony Carss who was our U21s manager for the 2022-23 season and prior to that was Blackburn's Head of Academy Coaching for five years. Something to keep an eye on as to whether there is any staff changes in the off-season also.
