A lot of fans used to sing it back then, I never really understood why, it’s always been the Bin dippers song.

It's alright...  Who needs "You'll Never Walk Alone" when you have a classic like "Shit on the City" to belt out over and over every game?

Also why were we singing you'll never walk alone at the end

Because we always used to, sometimes a fast version with clapping interceding the words.

In fact we used to sing a whole range of songs which were not Holte Enders In The Sky.

For all those "we don't need a bigger stadium" doomsayers, Villa Park would have been 48,000 then and was packed to bursting against Middlesbrough. In those days football was nowhere near as popular as now as well.

Anyone who gets a properly successful team down there will need a bigger stadium.

Would have liked to been there on those days atmosphere must have been electric

Pity we didn't take to some song it would be nice to have a proper anthem

Back in the olden days it was The Bells Are Ringing.

Can't understand how it's disappeared but more baffling is our complete lack of innovation for songs.

You hear other clubs with loads of songs. Even our player songs are just the off the shelf standards.

It's like the apathy of the team has resulted in apathy amongst the fans.

But yes, there will never again be the atmosphere of a swaying packed old Holte End.

Er no the attendance was about 38,000- and for the season it was around 34,000.  Villa only got crowds over 40,000 at home  on 5 occasions. Mitigating circumstances was the fact that football across the board were suffering decline in attendances which only started to reverse at the end of the 80's, and that Brum by then was suffering from high unemployment.

I am amazed at that, god only knows where you would fit another 10,000 people in looking at those pictures.  The Holte End looks full to the rafters and none of the visible stands have got swathes of seats empty like you see now.

I wonder how accurate their counting systems were back then?
