  1. Tuchel is a world class manager. One of the best out there. Comparing him to a guy with 1.5 years of too flight managerial experience isn't saying much. Tuchel would vastly out perform any manager he would follow up besides a select few.
  2. Im all for disliking Steven for footballing reasons. There are many. To act like we don't want him because he is a word removed or a d*ck or whatever other pejorative you can think of is dumb. Really dumb. Every great player, no matter the sport, is some level of word removed. That's how they become great because they have a single minded almost sociopathic commitment to excelling at their profession. Steven, if hired as manager of Villa, would have the sole mission of winning as many football games as possible. That's it. Rating him on how much money he gives to charity or how many old ladies he helps cross the street is laughable.
  3. I don't see how it's hard to argue that. Would a manager who won league 1 be touted as having achieved more than Dean because that's really what we are arguing. The SPL outside of the top 2 would get smoked by even the lowliest team in the MLS. What Gerard has done just isn't impressive, in the slightest.
  4. A clubs wage bill is the primary method in determining league standing. Bruce had the highest wage spend in the championship so touting his inability to even finish in the promotion places ain't saying much at all.
  5. Managers are rated on more than trophies. Play style, man management, player improvement all come to mind. Dean ticked all of those boxes during his time at Brentford. Everytime Bruce lined up against Dean in the championship it was obvious how much better Brentford were coached. How they were more organized and encouraged to attack and out score the opposition and not just try for a 1-0 snore fest. The only positive I've heard about Steven is how he walked a two club league. Nothing else. You would hope an ambitious club like Villa could do better.
  6. Took a team in Brentford that had a much lower wage bill than Villa and beat the pants off of Bruce almost every fixture. Plus he played an attacking, attractive, more modern style of football. Something Villa had been lacking for pretty much forever. Appointing Gerard would have been a punt in the championship. In the PL it's madness. Leeds while in the championship got Bielsa, a manager with multiple teams in the top flight on his CV, and the best we can do in the PL is a manager from the SPL. Go ahead and flush that ambition talk down the drain. My only hope is that it's all paper talk.
  7. We were struggling to compete as a mid table championship club at the time of Dean's hire. Gerard is a huge gamble. I can't grasp that we sacked Dean and a SPL manager is our masterstroke. If he was taking one of the smaller clubs to a new level I may be able to get behind it. The SPL salary structure is so lopsided though that finishing below second with Rangers is the standard not something to be applauded. These numbers are based off of the shortened covid year but still show how succeeding with Rangers within the SPL really isn't all that special.
  8. I don't see what precursor points to him being a coach of PL level. He is dominating a league that is honestly the standard of league 1. This is our progressive hire, the manager to challenge for the European places. I'm not convinced at all.
  9. You don't, but fans and the media don't have the scouting networks and contacts that Villa have. So we are stuck with the same retreads they throw out every time a manager spot opens up. As far as the name I see popping up on here, Gerard would be a woeful selection. The SPL is littered with failed championship managers. That is who Stevie G is matching wits with. The Scottish PFA manager of the year in 2019, Steve Clark, couldn't crack a 35% win percentage at 2 different championship clubs. Appointing Gerard would be a Tony Xia level of coaching search. One done solely to win the media without a care for the quality of football on the pitch. You would think given the level of investment in our scouting and analytics department we will do better than finding a name to be our next manager.
  10. Was completely done with FPL 2 weeks ago. That's actually the 2nd time this season I've went from over a million OR to 400k or less. Just want the roller coaster to stop lol.
  11. I thought maybe it was laxative gum and that's why he took so long to tweet about Dean's sacking.
  12. I honestly didn't even know it was a thing for people. I love chewing gum, at work, playing pickup, working out.... Have i really been going around just pissing people off .
  13. That's exactly where I'm at. These suggestions are a horror show. It's at least allowed me to laugh during an otherwise somber moment. Seriously though stop saying Gerrard. Even if he's a success the hundreds of post fretting about him leaving for Liverpool every season will be too much. Let him get his PL experience with some other sucker club.
  14. Have you watched White play? One of the worst headers of the ball for his position in the PL. Which last I checked is a critical skill for a CB.
  15. One positive to take from this is that some on here have dropped the mask and let their true agenda show.
  16. hopefully the wife never finds this forum or I will never be able to mock her for watching those drama "reality tv" shows. Turns out the fellas are just as bad.
  17. Can't tell if people are being serious or not. We aren't really trying to parse 240 characters to determine how Mings feels about the sacking. People get shipped off in a moments notice in his business. Are we to expect him to act like his granny died. My guess is he has mixed feelings like most on here.
  18. How does a manager that lost the fans after 9 games not considered a failure. I'm not sure he could have failed harder.
  19. Please stop saying Gerard or Lampard. At this point if Candyman rules apply then we will be stuck with both of them.
  20. It really was the turning point. My son learned a valuable lesson as a Villa fan that day. As the 2nd Villa goal went in he remarked that game was over and we would win. His face when Wolves scored the 3rd .
  21. Whew the list of sh*t Managers between MON and Dean. Hopefully we don't have to do that dance again. Thanks Dean, for the highs and the lows. You gave us our Villa back.
  22. We scored 7 against Liverpool with this formation and Barkley and Tres starting. Dean going back to his roots. It will either work or Purslow is going to have to start making phone calls.
  23. So El Ghazi. A brace or a hat trick?
  24. Not only that but players have far more value tied into them. Take Leon Bailey for example. We paid almost £40 million pounds for his fee and that's before you factor in his guaranteed wages over 4 years. He is easily has a value of £60 million and that's to a club that is worth about £400 million. If you have an asset that, by itself, is worth over 10% of the value of your club how would you treat it?
  25. Huge credit to McGinn. He has been great so far this campaign. I do think it helps massively that he isn't doing the job of 2 covering for Barkley or an out of form Douglas. Until we get a poor performance I think we have to stick with a midfield 3. It's been the strongest part of our starting 11 so far.
