  1. Their week long training camp in London turned into one huge circus over Grealish will he or wont he stay. They literally had Twitter ITKs tweeting the clubs every movement from the bushes of the hotel. Those getaways are supposed to be where you get away from distraction and focus on team building activities. Can't do that when your star player is the center of a huge transfer saga.
  2. Until he went to the SPL Kent had scored a total of 4 goals between the championship and league 1 but please tell me more about your irrational hatred of El Ghazi.
  3. Kent scored ten goals last season. El Ghazi got the same number in a much more competitive League. It would be madness to bring anyone over from Rangers.
  4. Especially if he plans on implementing a high pressing system. We lack several players for a system like that and honestly only a few currently have the fitness levels for it. I'm honestly very curious to see how we setup when we face stronger opposition. That type of situation is not something he had to deal with often while in the SPL.
  5. The PL desperately needs to figure out a way to balance wages across the league. Games gone because every time the season kicks off the same 4-5 clubs are the only ones in contention for the league. A hot team like West Ham could even win the league and then immediately have it's best players poached by City, ManU or Chelsea because they literally can't compete when it comes to wages. The PL loves the fact that we blame the player for being greedy because in the end it's all clicks and eyeballs either way. As far as the players they prefer to make money, like most people. In the end this is a job and when you are making generational wealth like Grealish is doing it's about much more than yourself. He is making the kind of money that will make his grandkids rich. Memories of him beating Liverpool 7-2, while nice, will not keep his grandkids fed, clothed and comfortable. The PL has allowed this to happen by making only token gestures to balancing competition across the league. La Liga enforced a salary cap that forced Barcelona to shed millions in salary and yet the PL won't lift a finger. Games gone but Jack is just playing by the rules as they exist now. As a player he has no power to effect change in a multi billion pound corporation.
  6. Money talks. I'd bet he even gets a raise on his Villa wages if he manages to save them from relegation.
  7. It's a risk taking the Norwich job but it makes sense. He's already got a fat severance from us and now he can double dip with Norwich. Worst thing is they get relegated, he gets the sack and another severance and he can then go golf year round til he feels like managing again. Remember Dean was earning about 300k a year at Brentford. Now a mere 3 years later he is probably 5 million to the good. That's generational wealth for his family. If Norwich are willing to pay him PL wages just to give it a go you can't blame him for accepting the offer.
  8. Definitely not. As much as I loved the man we hadn't looked good for sometime. Sadly it was time but I had really hoped the scouting team would find someone better than Steven. It just seems like such a risk. Here in the states, with no fear of relegation, you can take that risk. Give him 2.5 years if it doesn't work you try something different. No harm done other than time spent. With our current situation it's scary. Only 2 points above the drop. I'm usually not a nervous Nellie but I can't shake it for some reason.
  9. That's my fear with this appointment. I will back him as long as he is Villa but for me the red flags are all there for this to go sideways.
  10. Villa talk without actual matches to discuss just gets slightly loopier by the day. Love it .
  11. And Villa's team? For us to finish top half means we would have to outplay several teams who have significantly more talented squads given the headstart we gave them from our relegation. Steven had to setup Rangers to break teams down, rarely ever facing a more talented team. Completely opposite here in the PL. It's a valid question, how he will deal with not having outsized resources compared to his opposition.
  12. The fans couldn't keep Rangers solvent either. Aren't they already declaring large losses less than 10 years from almost going bust. Rangers are a huge team historically but the modern game has for the most part left behind Scottish football. In fairness you could probably say the same for Villa but we are in a league that generates large TV revenues and can attract foreign dollars for investment. Hence why we are far more attractive option for Steven.
  13. Rangers? Maybe 30 years ago but their revenue is barely top 75 in Europe now. They would be a minnow in any of the top league's in Europe.
  14. If he does just an average job then we will be happy for Pool to pay his release clause and we can move on to something better.
  15. Steven's the head coach so he isn't selling players without Lange's approval. If Steven leaves in a couple years then I'm sure we will get the right price for any player he comes back for.
  16. Most people on here rate Sterling highly. The club just isn't anywhere close to being able to afford his wage demands. Kinda renders any other discussion about him in the transfer thread moot.

    The NSWE Board

Can't still be the expectations given who they hired and our current league position. Would be very unfair to Steven if that was the case.
  18. Every MLS team would slot in above Aberdeen. So a young manager who achieves success in the MLS, like Patrick Vieria or Jesse Marsch, is far more equipped to deal with the PL where every game is a tough ask. Not trying to discredit Steven's accomplishment with Rangers but I don't see them as a large indicator of his prospective success in the PL. Huge gamble and, as a Villa fan, I really hope it comes good.
  19. Teams switching to a high press definitely go through a muscle injury phase as players bodies get used to the demands. As you mentioned we probably need a couple more 1st teamers if we are going to really up the tempo of our play.
  20. Should have just fired him in the summer then. Why wait til a third of the season is gone and we hover just above relegation. When people repeat this rumor they make it sound as if it was some shrewd business move by Purslow and company. When its actually quite dumb, really dumb. If we get relegated because Steven isn't able to turn it around, then what? I'm sure Purslow will feel like a genius for holding back those funds in the summer.
  21. Not sure Dean ever pretended to be a high pressing side. I honestly don't think we have the players to even try that tactic. The only midfielders who could high press right now are probably Ramsey and Nakamba. That's it. I really wish if this was always their guy to replace Dean they just did it over the summer. Doing this mid-season just a couple points above the relegation line is very worrying.
  22. My local club hired a high pressing manager and even with a proper pre-season it took almost half the season to get the players firing and able to fully work his system. If he stick with that system get ready for some teething issues out the gate.
  23. Not sure where you are getting that from but It was 12. Just 12. Less points than Dean improved us between our first season in the PL and our second.
  24. Im pretty sure Stan had better ideas. No matter who we purchased with that laughable budget was going to be a failure.
  25. This just feels like a huge punt. The more I look into how Rangers have performed under his tenure the less I'm impressed. When he took over, Rangers werent mired in the second division. They had just finished 3rd and a whopping 12 points behind Celtic. It took him 3 years to make up that gap. In those 3 years not a single signing made under his tenure moved on to a bigger club. It just isn't that impressive. He out spent his competition in a low quality league. No player development to really speak of. This reeks of hiring a name to win the media and casual fans over. I really struggle to see the benefit from a footballing perspective.
