  1. Yeah, if you go back to Klopps first season his teams dominated from an attacking perspective. They kept getting done in by being a sieve defensively. They then went on to fix that by making their largest purchases on the defense Allison, Van Dyke and Fabinho. So far Steven has shown us nothing. We look awful in all phases of play.
  2. Fulham had a GA of 81 that campaign. The worst in the league that season by 5 goals. A GA of 81 is the worst GA since 2013-14 when Fulham let in 86. Not sure we should be trying to emulate anything defensive wise from that 2018-19 Fulham side.
  3. I do think Steven has to show us something before the season ends. The club isn't going to give him £100 million plus this summer off of faith alone. That would be madness.
  4. Chambers doesn't look relatively quick for me. He will suffer the same fate at DM if we play as wide open as we did in the last 3 games. I'm struggling to think of a DM who would be able to handle that job alone. As soon as you send 2 midfielders to cover the wide areas and don't replace them you have lost the midfield.
  5. Exactly, a full on rebuild would make us second to man city in total spend for the last 4 seasons. Would set us up for another MON like plummet whenever Steven left as well.
  6. Isn't a fullback in world football that could succeed in this setup.
  7. Happened over and over against Newcastle and Watford. Either the FB recieved the ball with no options in front or they were isolated. That second photo is so damning. You don't even leave a winger that isolated. Digne has zero good options. He can't try to beat his man since if he loses the ball Watford can immediately counter through the gaping holes between him and his midfielders. Then you look at our 4 attacking players headed for the box. They are almost in a straight line. A single Watford player could mark them all if the cross even made it into the box. I have yet to see someone explain what's the point of keeping your attacking players in one 5' by 5' box. And then send your fullbacks on islands out wide without support. Liverpool don't even do this. Their fullbacks are always supported out wide by at least 2 teammates. Then they work nice little triangles til they either get someone in behind or suck the opposing team so far over it opens up the other side for an attack. All of this strikes me as Steven and his managerial team not vetting this system appropriately. This system was not ready for showtime. It needed more time in the lab, maybe at a Championship or Ligue 1 club.
  8. They also don't send their fullbacks on kamikaze missions. No doubt, they push high up the pitch but their front 3 are still further up. That gives the FBs something to aim for. Versus Watford Digne was sometimes the furthest up the pitch. He finished with an average position second highest only behind Ings. What is the point of pushing FBs that high if they have no one to aim for.
  9. That's the issue. He made two major purchases and we got worst. Not just a little bit worst mind you. We currently don't even look like a PL squad. The xG numbers we are putting up are relegation worthy. I went back and looked at Liverpool under Klopp right after his appointment. They definitely had some freak results but in almost every game they dominated offensively. 20+ shots, 5+ shots on target, xG +2. Their defense let them down in most of those games. Now with us wearen't generating anything offensively. Even the Leeds game they bested us from an xG perspective. I can absolutely see why Liverpool fans were willing to give Klopp time. First his pedigree. Bundesliga winner, Champions League finals appearance. His CV spoke for itself. If Steven was generating a decent attacking return then I feel patience would be the right answer. Not sure we can give Steven an entire season if the performances remain this dire.
  10. I like how you are thinking through this. It shows how crazy you have to get to make this system viable. McLeish would love that lineup. 7 defensive minded players combined with 3 attackers. Steven just really needs to try something more sensible, Tavernier isn't walking through that door.
  11. If he doesn't fix this then we could go down. His major shake up for Watford was to swap the strikers and play the exact same flawed system. Does he even have it in him to go 3 at the back or field wingers for width?
  12. First we might need to figure out who isn't struggling in this system.
  13. The players are implementing his strategies. That's the problem. Steven decided to go with a 2 man midfield by subbing on Watkins and removing Douglas. Watford immediately grew into the game. Steven made that decision. Cash was taken off at 64 minutes because he was running endline to endline just like Steven asked him to. He then puts Ashley Young at RB. . Come on. Ashley has played on the left his entire career. Mostly as an attacker. Steven put him in the worst position possible and was thusly rewarded for his very dumb, poor decision. Steven's instructions have our fullbacks playing as wingers and our midfielders playing as defensive fullbacks. I could keep going but I think you get the drift. What I see is a bunch of players carrying out the instructions of a manager and being let down because those instructions absolutely stink.
  14. Steven took that mini preseason to install his full system. Turns out you need much more time. Time to go back to basic or we could very well go down.
  15. Yep I was raging at that passage. This setup requires Cash to be in two places at the same time. It's impossible. For Liverpool the midfielders track back and win the ball so TAA and Robertson don't have to track back. We don't have the players for it. This silliness needs to stop.
  16. Not putting the SPL in the greatest light if this system worked there. Why would you design a setup that makes your 2 most attacking players fullbacks? We have a front line that cost over £100 million in transfer fees but we are completely reliant on our full backs for any attacking impetus. Truly boggles the mind.
  17. Nah we wouldn't lose the midfield like that if we had 7 in the middle. It's a 2-5-3 which if I check my records was the tactical innovation of the 1920s. Steven read "Inverting the Pyramid" and didn't get past the 2nd chapter.
  18. This goes beyond not delivering. Last year this team with El Ghazi on the left generated an xG of 5 versus Palace with only ten men. Only the 2nd team to ever do that in the PL. Now we struggle to generate a single shot on goal. Our side that finished 1 point above relegation would have their way with the team that played today.
  19. I'm so sick of these flying fullbacks. Watford were countering into that massive space behind Cash all game. Ramsey is probably our biggest goal threat right now and Steven had him 40 meters from goal so Digne could do what exactly? I still don't understand why the fullbacks have to be pushed so far forward. What does it actually give us besides a broken shape that an academy team could exploit.
  20. Went 2 up top with a 2 man midfield with a 3rd of the game to play . Steve Bruce can make the same tactical decision for a 1/10th of the salary. What are we paying him for?
  21. Someone tell the manager the rules of physics are well established. A player can't be in 2 places at the same time. Criminal what he is asking Cash to do. Has to defend our box then teleport to the attacking 3rd or the right flank is completely empty. If this tactic actually worked in the SPL then it's a worst league than I thought. In the 1st half after Ings the 2 closes Villa players to Watford's goal were our fullbacks. How does that make any sense. Steven you aren't the smartest dude in the room, even a U12 manager can see the gaping holes in your setup.
  22. Great performance holding the league leaders to a single goal at home. Oh wait that's bottom of the league Watford. He's a fraud, hope Purslow kept the receipt.
  23. A whole host of teams above us in the standings have been plagued by inconsistency. Leicester, Tottenham, United just to name a few. All have better players but struggle to consistently perform. Good managers set up their teams to consistently perform.
  24. Plus it was obvious Digne was the managers choice. Targett lost his spot the day Digne arrived. There was no competition. The only thing he would have fought for was a place on the bench.
  25. We also brought in quality this winter. Who did Newcastle bring in that was even remotely close to Coutinho or Digne? So I don't buy that. Were they in good form, sure. Still doesn't excuse our inability to even generate one quality attack all game. This lost shouldn't be viewed in a vacuum either. It's been coming for some time. Our xG production has been poor since Steven has taken over. We have struggled to produce more than 2 xG in any match other than Norwich. Even in games where we score freely Leeds finished with almost a full xG more than us. 15 games remain. That's enough for Steven to reverse this trend. If he doesn't, it would be foolish to let him conduct a rebuild of our squad this summer.
