  1. Personally I would keep N'Zogbia because I still believe he has got that little bit of magic that could make a difference for us occasionally. Then again I wouldn't be too bothered if his wages are anything like what is reported. Replace Given with a solid cheaper option and our wage bill is very decent actually!
  2. Great looking picture there Wes with the squad. Certainly better than what we've had to endure the last couple of years that's for sure. I think if we can get a good left back now and a really top qualify central midfield player then we will have strengthened the spine of the team so much, and I'm really positive with our personnel.
  3. I was at the most boring training course all day, so frustrated unable to pick up any social media on my phone due to lack of signal in the venue, then I get home at 4.55 and it's happy days!! Not sure with this signing, I'm chuffed to bits with Okore but I have no evidence at present to say whether this guy could be the next Young, or maybe the next Dawkins. No doubt the fee will have been relatively low, he's a good age, and it's not the lengthiest of contracts so no negatives from that point of view. If it works out for him then terrific! Welcome Leandro, show us what you're about son.
  4. Great news, welcome Jores! I think this signing has the feel of the Olof Mellberg signing from Racing Santander all those moons ago. Have a good feeling about him.
  5. There is no negative to signing good young players, none at all. Baker has just signed a new contract, and he will have been fully aware Villa were looking for more defenders. Clark has to up his game to the point of Lambert saying 'I can't leave him out', possibly he could slot into a midfield role if Okore and Vlaar works as a partnership. If Clark throws his toys out of the pram he'll be off, for a small fee to a club much less in stature than us, and he'll only have himself to blame.
  6. Dharmesh Sheth on SSN just reported that Helenius has been given permissionto fly to BBirmingham but not until next week. Plenty of time for big clubs to jump in and scupper us.
  7. Benteke would be foolish to move this summer unless it is to a club that can offer him a starting XI place every week. It could scupper his World Cup. I strongly suspect he'll stay for one more season.
  8. Certainly will have the height to panic sides from set pieces. Hope he is able to bring his good touch and ground game to the big step up to Premier League, despite being a tall player.
  9. Think the price of Belhanda probably opens the way for Popov to come here.
  10. Fantastic news! Aside from Guzan I think he is my favourite player right now. Hope the club promote him from squad number 26 to more prestigious one this summer. Hope he can keep giving 110% and keep finding the net for many years to come. Top news. Top lad.
  11. 1. Most media outlets are saying £2.5m 2. YouTube videos look decent 3. Seems a fast wing type of player who likes a long shot. Different to Bannan, can't comment on 'miles better' etc
  12. Know nothing about him to be honest but extend a warm welcome to him. Good age and heard good things. Not costing the earth, good wages for us. All round very pleased to start the signings this early. Welcome Aleksander.
  13. Possibly the confirmed Tonev signing could have an impact on this? May be good for both of them to join as a pair now.
  14. I felt very positive last year to be honest when Lambert came in but my goodness we had to wait for some results. I expect next season to be better but I'm not sure yet what is a realistic hope.
  15. Gosh does anyone else feel that all those years ago when Gregory was manager, Benni Mccarthy (mentioned in theaabove link) dumped us out of the Intertoto in the summer playing for Celta Vigo? We seemed to chase him for ages afterwards but Ellis never stumped up the cash. Back in those days when he was 23/24 I thought he could've done a great job for us. Just what we needed at the time as well, a fast prolific striker. Ah good but frustrating memories. What could Gregory's strong defensive team done if they'd had a player like Benteke in the side?? Ah can't go back.
  16. Think Bannan may fit Swansea style and he'll do well for them. Hope everyone accepts that this is a possibility and won't be cursing the men who sold him if it happens??
  17. Great post jacketspuds. If he got anything right, we can say that Lambert did well in the transfer market. He deserves a bit of faith with it at the moment. Those expecting experienced Premier League players I'm sorry it's just not going to happen. The only players where I think Lambert may look at guys over 25 could be a centre back and maybe a midfielder. Let's just enjoy the unknown and get behind our club!
  18. Probably will get another season as we have bigger fish to offload. Probably won't get much game time this year though I predict.
  19. No medical yet according to Kendrick. Still a few clubs sniffing around at the moment.
  20. Don't see the fuss with Shawcross to be honest. That's a hefty amount in wages when we have a less experienced but similar type of defender in Baker. I suppose maybe it's a position where we just need to pay through the nose for experience at the moment.
  21. I always think it's a bad comparison to look at Celtic or Rangers, and then Premier League clubs. Their league is desperately poor standard but they both get brilliant passionate attendances at superb stadiums. And of course they (only Celtic at the moment) always pick up trophies. If a player had a choice between us and them it would all depend on what mattered more to him. What Villa can offer now is the chance for a young player to come in to a growing energetic team. Which I personally would jump at if I was a young lower league talent.
