  1. He'll be gone. But I thank him for what he has ultimately achieved for the club. Kept us up whilst restoring a better financial position... No mean feat really in this cut-throat league. New owners will hopefully have their own ideas for refreshing the management structure and just refreshing the club in general.
  2. I suspect in a couple of years time we'll look back on today as the best game Bowery ever had in a Villa shirt. Fair play I've always thought he's worked hard for the team, just doesn't have the quality. Future decent League One/Two player and fair play to him, no disgrace in that.
  3. Great to see a performance that was something of a throw back to the bottle and blood and thunder of late last season, although Hull were really really poor. Pleased for Weimann to get his goals, nice set up and finish from Gabby and Westwood too. Delighted for Bowery who I would've given MOTM, I suspect maybe we'll look back on this as the best game he ever had for Villa. Onwards and upwards now. Lerner to sell up, new owners to hopefully bring not just a refreshing management team but also a new direction and excitement for the club. Well done to the fans once again for turning out in numbers and for fantastic vocal support in what in some ways has been a more disappointing season than last season! UTV!
  4. I've always said that Lambert has fulfilled his mandate to cut the wage bill, lower the squad average age and keep us in the Premier League until the accounts are more in order. I've also maintained that once we have successfully got back to a better financial position whilst remaining a Premiership side Lerner will sell the club. All of this is still on to happen as far as I'm concerned. If after the Chelsea home win we'd won a couple more games and looked to finish mid table I think we'd all be quite excited about the future this evening. What's made Lambert's position untenable now is the interim defeats since then, and the suspensions of his close lieutenants. I think come the end of the season Lerner and Faulkner will actually be the first to go. Then Lambert will be relieved of his duties when the new owners come in. As for a realistic appointment I think the name may well just come from nowhere and be a more unknown quantity. If I had the choice right now I'd like to see a team of Michael Laudrup with Martin Laursen as his right hand man. Sid to go back to the U21s.
  5. Guzan Bacuna Vlaar Baker Bertrand Westwood El-Ahmadi Delph Albrighton Holt Agbonlahor Can't see us winning but if we could play out a draw with them it could be the point that keeps both clubs up. A draw would hold off Fulham, Cardiff and Norwich who all have tough games. Will be very tense, can't afford any lapses. 0-0
  6. If we're honest everything has gone backwards since we lost the Carling Cup Final and the FA Cup semi just after. The slide had already started before O'Neill left. Since then we have had managers who have all had good points but also big shortcomings and incredibly difficult situations. To be honest I've always been a big fan of Lambert. But this season has shown his shortcomings in tactics, selections and staffing. Even if he does lead us to 3 or 4 more points and safety next month, I honestly think Lambert's position in untenable now because of what's happened behind the scenes and any prospective new owner is likely to have their own ideas. Lambert will be relieved of his position if and when a new owner takes over, as well as Given. Sid will stay on as youth coach I think.
  7. This season is turning into nothing better than an utter shambles. And Faulkner is to blame. As are Lerner and Lambert. In my view if they do have this close working relationship that they each claim, then they are all equally to blame for this mess.
  8. A win would hopefully give us a couple of points gap in 10th. Think we may end up frustrated. Guzan Bacuna Vlaar Baker Bertrand Westwood El-Ahmadi Delph Weimann Benteke Agbonlahor Steer Bennett Clark Sylla Albrighton Holt Robinson I think we will labour to a draw. 1-1
  9. The other teams are just not going to do it. Cardiff and Fulham, although likeable, just won't be able to put a big enough run of results together. I don't think any of Sunderland, West Brom or Palace will pick up enough points to finish above us either. 18th will be basically who finishes lowest out of those 3. As the outside bet Swansea aren't out of it yet either until they win a couple more home games.
  10. I was a fan of Sylla last year and I thought KEA would become a bit of a nothing signing. To be fair he has been important this season. Fair play to him.
  11. Gabby needs to be playing. A few weeks ago I would've said drop Weimann for Albrighton but I wouldn't say that either just at the moment. Keep Marc on the bench, he could open it up late on if it's tight. I think Benteke Gabby and Weimann will cause Stoke some problems.
  12. Chelsea had all the ball for first hour but created nothing really. We were resolute. Vlaar awesome. The Willian sending off was harsh and changed the game but... Fantastic character and performance to take the game to them at the end and beat them. Brilliant stuff from Albrighton when ge came on. Delph should certainly be in with a shout in June with Cleverly and Barkley currently not up to much. Great day for us!!
  13. Pleased for him today. Next two games at home, if we could just sneak another win out of those two then I think we'd put ourselves on too many points with too few games left for the other teams. So disappointed with Lambert and the team in general this season, but if they can get over the line again then the onus will be back on the board to start turning things around.
  14. I think everyone will seriously worry if we lose today. Last March and April we had a good run of games to pick up points. No such fixture list this time around. Today could be pivotal.
  15. I personally think with all the players he has booted out Lambert has always needed to get a few numbers in on the cheap. Last Spring it looked like it had worked for him. This year it hasn't. If we can hang on this season without going down then I don't think numbers will be so much of an issue in the future. Lambert could focus on getting in 4 or 5 better players that would go straight into the team. But for the time being he has to show a bit of grit and nous to see us through the last 11 games.
  16. Apologies Rooney will obviously start. Prob ahead of Wilshere or one of the wide men.
  17. Starting team for the Italy game will probably be Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines Gerrard Carrick Wilshere Oxlade-Chamberlain Sturridge Welbeck I just cannot see past a group stage exit at the moment.
  18. So unlucky. Lambert almost got it spot on today. Move on to a big game now against Norwich.
  19. Neither side good enough to go on to dominate the second half and win. This will be decided by one turning point moment. Hope it goes our way, worried at this point.
  20. Not unhappy with the team, but on paper their side is much stronger than in recent weeks for them.
  21. Houllier was rubbish. I started to lose faith in Lerner around this time.
  22. Another of those you'd think we'd win at home... but end up making real hard work of it and possibly not getting the right result. Guzan Bacuna Vlaar Clark Bertrand Westwood El-Ahmadi Delph Weimann Benteke Agbonlahor Think we will just about do it with them missing Carroll. 2-1
  23. 3 seasons is what I've always said Lambert needs before a fair judgment can be made. He needs this summer and next season yet. He has fulfilled his mandate so far.
  24. Terrible decision to drop El-Ahmadi for Holt for me. Bacuna in over Lowton fair enough but if you drop KEA play Sylla or Gardner. Don't understand this.
