  1. I think it's more he was trying to give Lenglet some minutes given what he said about using the squad, but it's a decision that massively backfired. I'm sure Unai will learn but he has to play Pau in the next 2 games (Brighton and Olympiakos away) which are huge for our season.

    Ezri Konsa

I am a fan of Ezri, he's such a classy and composed defender when in possession, and for me one of the best ball playing English centre backs. Probably only Stones is better on the ball. BUT....he is so passive defensively. He doesn't seem to be able to anticipate the danger and whilst he may have led the defence well earlier in the season that seems to have stopped. It didn't help that he was playing with Lenglet instead of Pau but that's no excuse. He needs to work really hard on improving his defending. On the ball he's great, off the ball he has some real issues he needs to overcome.
  3. The defence absolutely shouldn't be exempt of any blame, our defence hasn't been good enough all season, blame Mings being out fine, but that shouldn't be a reason why we're so passive. I like Konsa a lot but his recent performances from a defensive point of view aren't doing him any favours of making the Euros squad for England. BUT....Olsen was 100% at fault for goals 2 and 4. The 2nd he makes the terrible decision to dive early rather than stand his ground and the 4th goal is just laughable despite it taking a deflection, he should just punch it away but he flaps at it awkwardly like he hasn't got a clue what he's supposed to do. Yes he made a couple of decent stops but he's undone all that with the poor goals he's conceded. It's not just the goals he concedes but the lack of confidence he gives the rest of the team when he plays. Added to that is Emi is like having another outfield player when we're in possession, he's so good with the ball at his feet and confident coming out of his area when necessary, Olsen just cannot do that. He might only be our backup goalkeeper but he's Sweden's no1 goalkeeper, you'd expect him to be more competent than this. I'm actually surprised Gauci hasn't moved ahead of him in the pecking order.
  4. Ref was shit, VAR was shit, but most importantly we were shit and only have ourselves to blame. Unai was a master in Europe with his other clubs, but I honestly haven’t seen us play well in most games we’ve played in this competition. We struggled through the group games playing at a walking pace, were totally outplayed by Lille over 2 legs, and then tonight. The defence should be ashamed, they’re not up against Mbappe and Vinicius, they’re up against a guy who struggled to get in the Wolves team and a striker who has never even played in a top league. I think we had enough chances to at least take a draw back there if not a win, but our awful defence and goalkeeper let us down as well as Luiz who was the worst player on the pitch for us after Olsen and is really starting to piss me off with these performances. His penalty was awful. Think that’s us done in this competition I’m afraid, it was nice while it lasted but to go another year without a trophy is so damn frustrating. We simply have to get 4th now as that looks like the only thing we’ve got to play for. The one good thing tonight is at least spurs lost but it doesn’t make up for the disappointment.
  5. So Ollie is shoved over, clear free kick. What does the bald word removed do? Not give it. I’m gonna find this ref and crush him.
  6. If only we could take Dougie out the team, he’s nowhere near good enough currently and should be dropped. Unfortunately we have no choice but to play him because of all these shit injuries.
  7. Dougie has gone to shit. I’ve no idea what’s happened to him.
  8. It’s pretty clear our focus this summer needs to be on strengthening our defence. Concede far too many goals even when Emi plays.
  9. Possibly, they’ve looked good. Press like monsters. But of course our defence is utter shite.
  10. Well I guess we wouldn’t be winning the Greek league if we were in it. Olympiakos are third in their league currently and have battered us.
  11. We get it back to 2-2 then throw it all away again. Our defence is absolutely awful, not helped by the clown in goal.
  12. Luiz is a liability at the moment sadly and I’m one of his biggest fans.
  13. More of that football in the last 5 mins of the first half and we could turn this around. We had them on the ropes.
  14. **** off VAR and **** off off ref you bald word removed!
  15. We’ve waited 28 years to win a trophy, turning up at 6:30 to help boost the team, and they put in a performance like this. I just don’t get it. Emery is supposed to be a European specialist.
  16. Disgraceful performance in a home semi final, I’m fuming!
  17. Still baffles me why he started Lenglet. With Olsen in goal too it was always going to be a disaster.
  18. It would be nice to fly out the blocks, race into a 3-0 lead, then slow the game down so we’re ready for Brighton on Sunday. Never seems to be the Villa way though. Olympiakos are one of the heavyweights in Greece but it’s a poor standard of league, I’d say the Turkish league is even better. Need to be up for it though. Not sure why Pau isn’t starting so Lenglet needs to step up tonight.
  19. We are by definition a huge football club, but we’d still get labelled in the media a much smaller club to Man Utd or Liverpool, just the way it is. We’re certainly no smaller than Spurs, Chelsea or Man City based on historical importance but the media would tell you they’re bigger because they are part of the Big Six apparently. Ultimately though we won’t get taken seriously until we prove we’re big. Top 4 multiple times, winning trophies, signing top players, big revenues. That’s the only way we’ll be recognised as being a big club so hopefully over the years that will happen.
  20. He should still go to the Euros as that doesn't start until mid June. If it's at the worst end of a groin/abductor injury (i.e. 6 weeks), he'll be ready for the tournament even if he's not quite match fit from the start. Obviously though I hope he's back for us to play some part in our last few games, otherwise we have McGinn and Luiz as our only senior central midfielders which is really cr*p luck.
