  1. I think it’s more the performance I’m getting at. 28% possession at home and looking like a championship team against a premier league team was very disappointing given the week we’d had to prepare for the game. Emery keeps saying he wants us to control the ball, keep possession, beat the press, be brave, but we didn’t do any of that last night and just reverted to hoof ball up to Watkins which doesn’t work because Ollie never wins anything in the air against central defenders. I think Arsenal aside, we haven’t really played well in many games the last few weeks and that’s the disappointing thing because I really enjoy watching us at our best and it seems so few and far between at the moment.
  2. I feel like last night was 2 points dropped than 1 point gained. We didn't turn up and this is the confusing thing about this team: brilliant when you least expect it (Arsenal), then shite when you're expecting a big performance like last night. 4th is far from done. I fear it will go down to the last day which will be very stressful. We have to hope Spurs only take 1-2 points from their three tough games this week, very possible. But even then they still have Burnley and Sheffield Utd which should yield 6 more points. Brighton, Liverpool, Palace isn't an easy run in, especially when we have the first two straight after European games. Palace are in ridiculously good form. I suspect if we lose Tielemans and Martinez for any length of time we will finish 5th. If they are ok we should do just enough to finish 4th. It's that simple.
  3. At fault for the first goal and generally was poor and has been for a while. He's been very good for much of this season but needs to up his game pronto because if we had a fully fit squad at the moment, in his current form, he wouldn't be starting.
  4. Eh? Man City are not a high pressing team, neither are Brighton, they are teams who like to dominate possession but they don’t really press. Arsenal are to an extent but not the aggressive high press like Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham who have all got the better of us this season. We are a work in progress whether we finish top 4 or not and we have to learn to deal with these types of teams next season because tonight was such a one sided game when we really should have been taking the game to them given we were at home and about 20 points better off than the opposition.
  5. Maybe it’s true. Maybe Luiz isn’t as good as we think he is. Last 2 games without him we were so much better.
  6. Just looked at that stats: **** me we were shocking. How Chelsea haven’t won I really don’t know, they’ll be kicking themselves. One of our worst performances of the season against a team who got twatted by Arsenal 4 days ago. Unai needs to learn how to play against these high press teams, because he clearly screwed up tonight in whatever he was trying to do.
  7. I thought it was a foul initially but when I looked at the replay it was very, very soft. We got so lucky.
  8. VAR saved us tonight. That nudge looked very soft to me and I think the goal should have stood.
  9. Tielemans was walking off. Hope that means he’s ok, we really need some luck on the injury front.
  10. We were playing poorly before he came off to be fair. Chelsea dominated and I was disappointed with how Unai set us up tonight.
  11. Very poor performance, we were lucky to get a point. Outplayed in both halves. We were brilliant against Arsenal a couple of weeks ago who are much better than Chelsea. Very strange performance. Disappointing. Only positive is we didn’t lose. chelsea look a much better side then us, we need some big signings in the summer because Chelsea will be up there next season.
  12. Chelsea look a much better side than us. How are we 4th and they 9th.
  13. Throw away 2-0 lead against Brentford, throw away 2-0 lead against st Chelsea. We love throwing away 2-0 leads.
  14. Chelsea will win now. We’ve been utter tripe and deserve nothing.
  15. We’ve had some great performances under Unai and some absolutely shite ones. Today we have been utter shite
  16. Luiz’s fault. He’s been shite for weeks now. We look absolutely awful and will be lucky not to throw this away. Poor in both halves. Poch has outwitted Emery today.
  17. Tielemans injured, Martinez injured. FFS we are so cursed.
  18. 28% possession in the first half, but very clinical. Not playing well really, but I’ll take it. Do think we absolutely must keep the ball better in the 2nd half. Chelsea press very aggressively but we need to try to get more control.
  19. Everything points to a positive performance and win for the Villa: Chelsea coming here off the back of a hammering by Arsenal We're coming off the back of two very good victories as well as a positive outcome in Europe Chelsea got a worse injury crisis than us (12-13 players out) We have Dougie coming back into the team We're at home under the lights with a raucous crowd behind us We have a huge incentive to win to try to consolidate that 4th spot and pile the pressure on Tottenham who I'm fairly sure will drop points in at least one of their two games this week But this being Villa, there is always that niggling feeling that we will mess up. Hopefully not as a win tonight would be massive. Every game is a cup final now.
  20. Yeah I’d generally agree with that, though I don’t think it’s that we won’t go for so called ‘big names’, more we won’t go for egos who are just after one last pay day, and it will be more how the player fits into the team’s structure than about the player themselves. For example, it’s fairly obvious we were chasing Marco Asensio last summer before PSG nabbed him. I’d say he’s an example of a big name player at their peak who we wanted. I’d imagine Monchi and Emery knew him and he didn’t come with an ego, hence why they wanted him. I don’t really care if it’s big names or not, as long as they improve our team which I trust Unai and Monchi to do, but we’re at a stage now where generally only the bigger name players who have done it in the biggest games on the biggest stages will improve us such is the quality of our team. I also want us to give Unai all the tools he needs, because he deserves it for getting so much out of the existing players.
  21. I don’t know what you mean by big names (and judging by the likes you got I’m guessing everyone on here wants small names for some bizarre reason), if you’re saying we won’t be signing Mbappe and Jude Bellingham then yes we won’t be. If you’re saying we’ll only be signing players from the Championship or some obscure foreign league then that won’t be happening either. I don’t know what Sevilla has to do with anything, different project, different league, different club. We are competing with 7 top teams for a top 4 place and trophies, we have to be targeting some degree of proven quality with some project players like Rogers thrown in (more likely January signings). Last summer we signed Tielemans, Torres and Diaby + Zaniolo and Lenglet on loan with Monchi here. Diaby and Torres in particular were pretty big names, unless you disagree. Tielemans was coming off a bad season with Leicester but had previously been regarded as one of the best midfielders in the league. Zaniolo and Lenglet weren’t nobodies. I expect similar this summer, a couple of loans/frees for well known players in Europe and a couple of big money signings depending on how much money we have to spend.
  22. Ollie has been better than every English striker this season other than Kane. The only thing you can throw at him is he doesn't play as well for England as he does Villa (e.g. Brazil friendly) but he deserves to go. I agree that Bowen should be on the plane, though he's not really competing with those players as he's a right winger, he's competing with Saka and Palmer who have also had outstanding seasons.
  23. Nah I think they'll both go. He absolutely cannot ignore Ollie and will get pelters for not taking statistically the second best striker in Europe (after Kane) and Konsa impressed in the friendlies last month and looks every bit an international player. Dunk was awful and error prone and I think even Southgate has cottoned on that he's not good enough. Solanke should go as the third striker over Toney, whether he will or not I don't know but Toney has been missing from Brentford squads recently and that will definitely harm his chances. The only one I agree he might take is Rashford but it would be a huge error if he did in my opinion. Gordon and Grealish for that left side along with Foden, although Grealish could be replaced by Eze who is in better form.
  24. They were both signed in January, I think we’ll go for more established players in summer. Tielemans, Diaby, Torres last summer were all very good signings, the only one who’s been a bit underwhelming for what we paid is Diaby but he’ll come good I’m sure, and Torres has been a game changer. We’ll likely see more Rogers type signings in January as that’s how Monchi usually operates.

    Unai Emery

Amazing news and great work by Nas and Wes. If he builds a legacy like Fergie did at Man Utd we are in for some very good times.
