  1. I feel the treatment he has got from some fans this season has been awful. I know I can have my tantrums after a loss but Zaniolo never deserved some of the stick he got, even when we were winning every week and he was starting there were attacks on him. Actually when he has played we’ve looked a better side, earlier in the season when we near the top of the league and his performance against Arsenal a few weeks ago was magnificent. He hasn’t got loads of goals or assists but stats aren’t everything and he’s played his part getting us to where we are, I still think he could become an incredible player in time, he’s got all the attributes to do so. I really hope he doesn’t miss the Euros because of his commitment to us, that would suck big time, especially if he isn’t here next season.
  2. Ugarte makes more sense than Soler from PSG but I’m not opposed to both.
  3. I personally like Crazy Train and its playing at games coincided with is having our best season in nearly 30 years. Much like Sweet Caroline and High Ho Silver Lining I think it’s ingrained in the matchday experience now. Might change my mind in 12 months though if I start getting bored with it.
  4. If true then in our accounts next year or the year after, if we also include the Adidas and Betano deals, we could be looking at well over £300m in revenue which would be a huge commercial achievement and get us much closer to the Big Six teams financially.
  5. If Dortmund can get to the final then no reason why we can’t believe we can go far next season. They are experienced in the competition but wouldn’t necessarily say their squad is much better than ours especially if we have better luck with injuries and sign 2-3 quality players this summer in key positions. We struggled in the latter stages of the Conference which is my only concern, we will be playing teams much better than Olympiakos even early on in the competition, but we should have learned from our experiences this season. If we keep our squad fit then I think we could at the very least get to the knockout stages. The challenge will be maintaining a strong league position and going far in the champions league, I wouldn’t be surprised if Unai again doesn’t take the domestic competitions too seriously so early exits in the FA Cup and League Cup. We have to get into Europe every season and go far in European competition to bridge the gap to the top teams.
  6. Yes but isn't he crocked for the foreseeable future? Can keep Kamara company in the treatment room I suppose. I imagine he comes straight into the squad to replace Chambers when he's fit but he's only 18 and played just a handful of games in the Serbian league, it looks to me like a development/project signing with the next 3-5 years in mind. I meant that a priority is to get an established quality right back in to replace Cash, who I think we would sell if we get a good offer (sadly because I do like him but I just feel we've outgrown him).
  7. We've conceded 56 goals this season, 10 more than last season and likely to concede again at Palace. Obviously Kamara's injury hasn't helped our defence so a defensive midfielder is absolutely crucial. Konsa isn't a right back but keeps playing there so again a right back is absolutely essential. I think: MUST BUY (if we don't buy in these positions something has gone wrong) Defensive midfielder Right back SHOULD BUY (nice to haves if there is enough budget and we can move certain players out) Younger centre half (aerially dominant, aggressive and good on the ball) to replace Carlos Younger left back to replace Moreno or Digne COULD BUY (to freshen up the attacking positions and bring something new, would be good to do this but only once we've improved the defence) Attacking midfielder/winger
  8. Really good fight showed from the team after some disappointing results and performances recently. Shame we couldn't win the game to seal top 4 but we've heaped pressure on Spurs now. I just hope they are unable to beat Man City because if it goes down to the last day it will be incredibly stressful, although if we play like we did last night we can beat Palace. Tielemans made a huge difference coming back into the side. Duran didn't know much about his second goal but what an impact off the bench, in a few years time he could genuinely be a top class striker. I'm disappointed that Watkins is still stuck on 19 league goals, still no goal since gameweek 33 against Arsenal, I really hope he scores against Palace whether we need a result or not because I just want to see a Villa player score 20 league goals in a Premier League season. Zaniolo comes back and then gets injured after 15 minutes on the field, story of his time here, a real shame because his performance at Arsenal a few weeks ago was so good I thought he could have a positive end to the season and perhaps join us permanently. Doubt that happens now.
  9. In cost terms that is a fair point, but we can't judge just on price. Newcastle first choice backline (Trippier-Schar-Botman-Burn) cost £60m which is less than their backup backline. I suppose that could suggest a strong squad, but if we were playing Krafth and Burn as our centre backs we would be bricking it. I think Livramento is fantastic but Hall is a bit of a weird one, £30m looks a lot for someone who has only played about 30 games in his entire career but I guess Newcastle were paying for potential. Even Livramento was a strange deal given how lacking in experience he was and coming off the back of a bad injury last season. I think Cash and Konsa were bought 4/5 years ago and are obviously worth a lot more now, plus we have played Carlos a lot this season over Cash and we paid about £30m for him plus Martinez at nearly £20m so overall our defence is more expensive. I was also surprised we got Pau Torres for £30m and it was probably seen as a bit of a coup.
  10. That is rubbish about Villa having no injuries but Newcastle have definitely had terrible injuries. Even now they are playing a back 5 of their backup goalkeeper, Krafth, Burn, Hall and Livramento. If we were putting out a defence like that everyone would be using it as an excuse if we were conceding tons of goals because it is a **** defence. And yet they are playing really well and thrashing teams like Spurs so are not letting injuries derail their end to the season. They are faring better in midfield and up front but still playing players like Murphy and Longstaff because Almiron and Tonali are missing.
  11. Right just some advice, I know this place is a cesspit at times but don’t start calling other posters idiots. I can bet you very likely wouldn’t have the guts to say it to my face so don’t say it on here, it isn’t cool. I haven’t called you any names. If you want to start name calling do it in a private message and we’ll take it from there. And second piece of advice, don’t tell other fans how they should or shouldn’t react. Again, I didn’t tell you how to react so you can’t tell me how I should feel. We do after all live in a democracy where freedom of speech is still allowed. If you don’t like what I say you can always just ignore me.

    Ezri Konsa

I was banging the drum for him to make the England squad for ages and when he got the call up it was thoroughly deserved. But even with my Villa bias I’m not convinced he should go to the Euros because his form since that call up with us has been well below par. Maybe he’s been told he’s already made the squad, I don’t know, but he’s not playing like someone who is trying to make the final squad. I think it will be Stones, Maguire, Guehi and one more. Dunk has been worse than Konsa so I don’t think it will be him, Southgate doesn’t like Tomori, but maybe Dier or Branthwaite will be the 4th central defender. Konsa did play well in the march friendlies so maybe he’ll still sneak in, but Branthwaite probably deserves it more.
  13. Villa fans are some of the best in the country, how dare you make that claim. How many games have you been to this season? I bet I’ve been to more than you so making out you’re more of a fan than me is utter nonsense. References to 2016 are so boring, probably why we never achieve anything, we benchmark our best season against our worst season despite there not being one player in the currrnt squad that was here 8 years ago. How about benchmarking our current season to 1996 when we won a trophy and still finished 4th? The players have done great for the most part, I’m just very disappointed that they’ve ended the season in such poor form which could undo everything good they’ve worked for. It doesn’t make me a bad fan for expressing that FFS.
  14. I’ve slept it off, but I still just as peed off as yesterday. I understand my emotions can run high during and after a game so I’m going to try to avoid the match day thread for the rest of this season. That way I can’t fall out with fellow Villa fans when we should be getting along, there is a lot of division on this forum at the moment. I’m also just going to accept we will finish 5th and pay little attention to the last 2 games. As everyone keeps telling me we’re too knackered to produce anything now until we’ve had a summer break so if that’s the case I don’t expect we’ll turn up for either of our last 2 games. This season has been more stressful than last season even if we do finish 2 or even 3 places higher. I’ve probably aged 5 years the last few weeks alone.
  15. I’m really not trolling. You are all very stupid people if you genuinely believe that. Maybe you’re all delusional, I don’t know. I’m off to bed though so continue to chat shit amongst yourselves.
  16. Be facetious all you want, we are playing like a team with no quality, desire, fight or hunger at the moment. It’s very sad to see.
  17. Arsenal result helped us with that. Without that we’d have 5 points from 5 and that includes playing Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton. 2 shots against a mediocre Brighton team who had 15 shots said it all about how we’re performing, like a relegation team.
  18. Given how we played in this competition, I just think we’d be an embarrassment in the champions league next season. Unai may have done well with Villarreal and Sevilla in Europe, but with us he hasn’t. We were favourites to win this competition, knocked out Lille very fortuitously, then proceeded to lose to a very ordinary Olympiakos team who pressed us high and counter attacked the space we left in behind and we couldn’t handle it. We’re using tiredness as a reason for tonight, we will be a lot more tired if we have to play proper opposition in Europe next season I can assure you.
  19. No kids in the starting 11 tonight unlike Newcastle who played 17 year old miley when no fit players or Liverpool who played 4 kids in a carabao cup final (and won) We have injuries but that’s affecting depth, we were already 1-0 down after 10 minutes in this tie because our so called first team players can’t do the basics. Tiredness is an easy excuse, only 2 weeks ago they weren’t tired when they beat Arsenal or Bournemouth either side of European games. Funny how they’re suddenly all tired now. Maybe 3-4 of them need replacing in the team next season. Konsa could be one of them given how he’s played the last couple of months.
  20. We’ll only get 4th if spurs fail to beat Man City, that’s our only hope. We look like a relegation side at the moment, it’s a disgrace. Either the players pull themselves together, show some fight and desire and energy, and get a result in the next 2 games, or they risk throwing the whole season away. It’s really up to them I’m disgusted with them for their performance over the 2 legs of that European semi. Really disgusted.
