Chambers did ok I thought providing it was his first start apart from his clumsy foul. From an attacking point of view I think Digne is doing ok, an obvious improvement on Targett and in the long run will feel like a great signing. Doesn't help that none of our strikers can score at the moment.

Really hope Douglas Luiz is dropped next game. Him playing as a number 6 just doesn't work, haven't recruited a DM for nearly 3 years. Said it was disappointing we didn't sign one in the transfer window and in the 2 games we have seen since the window has closed it looks like the midfield is going to cost us a lot of games going forward. A new DM isn't going to just put us in the European places over night but will at least stop the midfield being so open in games like the last 2. Team looked more solid in the 4 games Nakamba started under Gerrard but since his injury it's just getting worse every week.

Apart from Digne, Coutinho and Chambers (whose only playing because of Konsa suspension) it's still the same team put in these type of performances that got Dean Smith sacked. We won't see properly see Gerrard's type of football until next season when he has had the summer window and a full pre-season to get more of his players in. Until then we will be putting in our fair share of these poor performances for the rest of the season.

Expect the club to start talks over a new deal with no doubt a bigger pay rise in the second half of the season the way his going as won't be long before we start seeing other clubs are tracking him articles in the media.

Hope the injury isn't too bad. Brentford away, Man Utd away and now Leeds at home - his come off in all three games and our attacking output has dropped off big time. Becoming a key player for us now.

Hopefully in the summer the club sign a CB which makes you think who out of Konsa/Mings is going to be dropped as it seems they both know if fit they are both starting and getting too comfortable. I really like Mings but his just making frequent mistakes and it was silly for Konsa to get that second yellow so that's him out for 2 games. 3-3 draw which feels like a loss. Apart from the 15 mins or so where scored 3 goals the performance was poor, Leeds looked like scoring every time they attacked and that was without Bamford and Phillips playing. Unfortunately can't get rid of the soft underbelly, the midfield was again over ran last night, Luiz and Mcginn were poor and we are going to see these inconsistent performances until the end of the season where the club need to finally sign a DM and a CB to give Mings/Konsa some serious competition.

Be surprised if the club make a bid in the summer for him, will no doubt have interest from clubs with European football.

At the time though he was correct? Pretty sure Sky Sports etc were saying it was very close and the fee didn't get agreed till a few days later.

Unless something comes out later today this deal just doesn't make sense to me. A permanent deal yes, loan no.

£40 million be a great fee but I think it's a load of rubbish anyways. I think he will sign a new contract in the summer/early next season.

If this is going to happen i'd imagine we would probably hear something today. Club don't tend to deadline day deals in recent times. Think Borja Baston was the last one? That was desperate times

Seems to be a lot of noise past few days regarding Luiz so I think there's definitely something in it. Guess if we do see Villa linked with more midfielders then we know why.

Hope after the last 2 matches at Villa Park against these lot can get a win this time. Good chance over the next few games to get a good amount of points on the board.

I agree with the attack not putting away the chances but also felt the team looked a lot more solid when Nakamba started Gerrards first 5 games. If Nakamba was still fit I don't think Luiz is getting much game time (although he would have gone to the AFCON). With the current midfield I can still see a few more Brentford away type of performances in the second half of the season.

All are great options for the number 8 positions and is fine for when playing the bottom 6 teams. Coming up against teams in the top half/mid table it doesn't look solid at all.

Disappointment will be more about possibly not signing a DM. It's been a priority for ages. Wouldn't be so bad if Nakamba wasn't injured for so long but if we don't sign one then we are going to see the same frustrations in midfield for the rest of the season.

Hopefully we will read that Villa have agreed a deal with somebody over the next couple of days otherwise going into the weekend gonna be preparing for disappointment.

I like Douglas Luiz. Was expecting once the buy back clause with Man City expired it wouldn't be long before he signed a new deal as the club have been very good in recent times of getting key players to sign new deals but he doesn't want to commit for whatever reason. Think I read in The Athletic recently that it's rare that once players are in the last 6 or 12 months of their contracts (which will be Luiz in the summer) that they sign a new deal so unfortunately he should be moved on in the summer unless the club spring a surprise announcement before the season ends.

With Hause and now Martinez signing new deals to me it seems like its Luiz whose the one who doesn't want to commit rather than it being because of the club. He will be gone in the summer, hopefully for a decent fee.
