He's probably in full agreement with all of us who have been saying that our midfield has been absolutely shite for the past 11 months and reckons if I can't get a game when they've been throwing in performances like that then I never will.

The strategic direction fits with possession based football. It was Smith who started pissing about with formations and going against his own identity with Shakespeare's direct style of football. He basically lost the plot.

Depends on whether you agree a pay off settlement or not. Di.Matteo for example was sacked by Chelsea and stayed on 130k a week for the remainder of his contract period because he didn't. My guess is Smith would have agreed a negotiated pay off because he intended to get back going in management asap

He's from the Midlands, spent his whole coaching career in the Midlands, in fact a fair chunk of his playing career too. He's goalkeeping coach at one the biggest clubs in the premier League and working with one of the best keepers in the world in a role where he seemingly has influence beyond just the day to day coaching. He ain't sacking that off to go to Norwich to work with Tim **** Krul regardless of how well he got on with Deano

I get the impression that nearly all of our players are in for massive wake-up call if Gerrard takes the job which will be good. I'm not saying he's Diego Simeone, but i think he's one of those managers where you don't realise how much you were going through the motions previously until he walks through the door and sets his standards.

I did think of that Brighton game too because we were absolutely bossed there. Its all those type of games where every action always feel 60/40, 70/30 in favour of the opposition. It feels like a fight to just retain the ball when you get into the opposition's half.

Brighton away last season (with Jack) was one of the games where I began to think ffs Smith. They were like fleas all over us and we barely strung a pass together. It was embarrassing how one sided it was. Typical of them though they couldn't score and barely clock a shot on target. We had fat Ross to blame that day but even against dross like 10 men Sheff United away, Newcastle away we were pathetic imo. You can't say these last few weeks has come from nowhere, there were massive signs of it last season imo.
