  1. I can never enjoy moments like this until the final whistle because all I can ever.... think is this is Aston Villa.
  2. Still no Sanson? Surely it's time to move him on, even for free.
  3. That ball from McGinn was absolutely sublime. —5Live
  4. Such a relief to read such sense in a Match Thread.
  5. Really interesting comments by Mings on 'learning completely new things under a foreign manager'. Sounds obvious I guess, but he sounded sincere in basically saying, at last, we've got an elite manager and finally we're learning about tactics.
  6. It is odd. We're so drowning in info these days it's hard to keep up, but AP seemed to indicate he had insider knowledge of such a transfer request, and now...?? I can't even be bothered to find out anymore.
  7. Precisely. Plus, following on from Tro's comments, unless we know the full facts it's still impossible to comment.
  8. Is this really our next game? What happened to there being tons of football over this period??
  9. If the rumours are true and Gerrard is set to replace Smith again, albeit at a lower level, then, well, football really is a crazy world.
  10. Really hope that's true. At a certain point, it really doesn't matter if someone might come good if this, that or the other thing happens. We should've moved him on a while back.
  11. Why don’t we have George Ramsay’s name on the stand? An excellent question. Why don't we? It is indeed totally subjective, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't honour individuals in the way being proposed. It means some people, like yourself, might disagree, which is fine. In the case of Ron Saunders, (like the new badge) an overwhelming majority would fully support it and it would be a hugely positive mark of respect by the club. I've never had a problem with the Doug Ellis stand being so named for example, but now I think it's pretty reasonable for this to be renamed too.
  12. If he isn't the best, he's really up there with the best. Before him, Messi's Argentina couldn't win anything.
  13. Yes please! (apologies I must of misread). But the question still demeans the monumental achievement of galvanizing a club to win its first Div. 1 title in about 70 years and going on to win the highest club honour available. It's arguable that the only reason anyone (especially us) call ourselves a big club at all is down to Ron Saunders. It's certainly not all the titles we won in the 1800's, or the foresight of the brilliant William McGregor. To answer the question, if Unai Emery managed to bag us a title and put everything in place for us to go on and win the European cup (in the same circumstances as before) for the second time, yes, I would consider naming a stand after him.
  14. A fair point, but McGregor already has honourable recognition by way of a statue, and there's more romance involved with Saunders, and it's a little cold and neglectful to say he 'only' produced a league title. All the players and even Barton attributed our finest achievement to Ron Saunders. Quite rightly. His legacy would be complete with the renaming and it would be an overwhelmingly popular choice.
  15. Is Ugo really a Villa legend? Didn't he also go the Middlesborough way? Who next; the Gareth Southgate section??
