    We’re linked with dross by lazy journalists that never get out of the office let alone London. They think there are only 10 clubs in the PL, if that, and probably know more about what’s going on at Barcelona and Madrid than they do B6.

    I agree with what you’ve said above. The potential thing needs to be our big selling point when we are trying to persuade players to join. I believe the board have big plans and are ambitious, so we need to sell “project Mega Villa” to prospective players and their advisers. If we can get the first big signing over the line and of course stay up, then that may encourage more players to join us on our inevitable journey to the top. With or without a theme park!

    1 in 4 then. Still better than 1 in 2.5 seasons! Lots of room for improvement in many areas not just goals for Wesley. But he’s come on a bit in his last couple of games, so it’s frustrating for us all, him especially, that he’s got injured now.

    Over the last 3 seasons. Glen Murray 86 games 25 goals CB 62 games 4 goals I'm not advocating buying Glen Murray but in a straight choice between the two it’s hard to see why we would choose CB over him.

    I’m amazed how many people believe, against all recent evidence that Benteke “might” score goals for us. Wesley was getting dogs abuse and yet was averaging around 1 goal in every 3 games. Wesley is also new to this team, league and country but has been afforded little or no slack from many posters. I think the nostalgic light may be blinding to some. Thanks for the memories Christian but I can’t see opposing defences looking at him with misty eyed nostalgia and letting him have a few free shots just for old times sake. The argument I hear a lot is that he’d be ok if we sign another striker too. Well I hope we do sign a top striker, but why waste the second striker spot on sentiment. Surely that's what a £5 million punt on a young up and coming player is for, not for an injury hit 30 year old. People moan about Glen Murray but I’d say he’d have a bigger positive impact on our season than CB would have.

    Very interesting. Levy trying to do it on the cheap as usual. I hope we get him now and look forward to the screams from Spurs fans when he scores a hatrick against them in Feb.

    I just hope that whether we sign Benteke or not, Hippo gets those compromising pictures of himself with a vacuum cleaner back. Then he might stop the Benteke love in. I’m dreading the summer thread if Benteke still has those pictures by then.

    I hope the Benteke links are just lazy journalism. If he wasn’t a former player there would be no “reported” interest. I doubt there would be much enthusiasm for him on here either if he didn’t have history with us. Without that the screams of, “past it!!” would be audible in space.

    I don’t think pinching their academy director went down to well either. Especially as he is almost certainly a big influence on this signing, if it happens.

    In theory you’re right. However if Nyland gets injured or has a few dodgy games in the first week of February we could really leave ourselves in the deep and smelly stuff. It could also be a case that Kalnic could be sold if we get a decent offer. I’m pretty sure Reina will be on a free, we probably won’t want to use a loan up and although his wages will be high, relative to staying up it’s a fairly risk free option for a GK of his pedigree.

    It would be interesting to see how he got on up in here in Scotland. However I’d be inclined to use his impact to judge the quality of The Scottish PL rather than Scott Hogan, as he has already set a benchmark for what he’s capable of in The Championship.

    I think one of the problems regarding fees is that we’re a little behind the times. Since we went down fees have rocketed. What we paid for Darren Bent, a proven goal scorer, now gets you a young unproven prospect such as Wesley. We've had to cover so many positions in one window and so we’ve filled the squad with largely average players or players with potential and spent around £10 million a head. Where as the likes of West Ham who have been up here for a few season and were given a stadium are paying £20 million + for their squad fillers.
