  1. An expensive 5 minutes! I get the sentiment though, but we need to be pragmatic I think.
  2. I meant in general. Printing quotes from managers is fair enough, but generally they print misleading headlines for click bait. In addition they appear to give most stories a negative anti Villa slant. When they were a genuine Birmingham based local paper they were a well respected quality newspaper. Since they became a part of the Trinity Mirror group they have no interest in Birmingham or any local teams or stories. I understand that getting clicks is how they get paid these days, but they would get plenty of clicks if they employed good local journalists who wrote good local stories, football or otherwise. They can’t be bothered and get clicks on the cheap with no effort. If they can’t be bothered then neither should we. We get the newspapers we deserve I’m afraid.
  3. It would lift fans for the first 5 minutes of his first game. Then once it becomes obvious that he’s no longer the same player he was/limps off, we will all fall into a deep depression and lament our sentimentality. We will then berate the club for not seeing it as sentimentality and not signing a decent, fit striker instead.
  4. Done quickly? Surely the deal should have been done before Heaton’s stretcher had got off the pitch?
  5. And released in the Brum Mail. Thanks local paper for your usual pathetic support. BOYCOTT THE BIRMINGHAM MAIL NOW!!!
  6. No way we can get March Albrighton in January.
  7. Then we will find someone who is worthy of riding the Glory Train on the gold laden trip of a lifetime. ALL ABOARD THE VILLA EXPRESS!!
  8. The think with Piatek he has to ask himself what happens once Kane is back in April? Is he going to happy playing back up to him? Because that’s what he’ll probably be provided Kane comes back the same after his injury. Whereas I’d say he would be reasonably confident of retaining his place, if he plays well of course, once Wesley comes back next season. Does he want a 3 month career at Spurs or does he want to have a long term ride to the very top with the Mighty Villa?
  9. How do you know he wasn’t? Given that we as fans, with hardly any real knowledge of the inner workings of transfers and contracts, all know that we would ideally like signings early in the window, it seems bizarre to suggest that someone in his position wouldn’t know that. I’d have thought that the recruitment team are constantly working on identifying potential signings in all positions and all age groups. Obviously there are times of increased activity, transfer windows basically, but it’s surely an on going process. The simple fact is our recruitment team aren’t unique in this and all clubs will be working along the same lines. The fact that we really need a striker has almost no relevance to what other teams are trying to do anymore than we care about other teams needs. So we can work exceptionally hard but we still have to operate in the market which will be pulling in all sorts of directions and at all kinds of speeds. Signing all of our top targets, within our budget and in the first few days of January never has and never will happen. Not for us or anyone else. Hopefully we can at least get some of our targets in by the time the window SLAMS SHUT. To suggest we’re not working hard and only started on Jan 1st is in my opinion irrational.
  10. He never actually went on strike as he was working as a union man throughout the strike and getting paid. So he’d be more of a false number 9.
  11. Well I’m sorry Terry but that’s unforgivable.
  12. I think it can work both ways depending on a number of factors. However our situation as far as strikers are concerned is hardly a secret. Let’s hope Suso and co are shrewd negotiators.
  13. I hope and think we will sign a good striker. Vasilev can develop from the bench, I wouldn’t want to ruin the kid before he gets started. The same with Barry although he’s probably a year behind. As TRO mentioned in an earlier post, the physicality these days makes it harder than ever for young lads to make the step up. Even if you look at how Jack has come on physically over the last few years. Yes there’s possibly a limited role for Vasilev this season, but I don’t think we can expect a huge impact. Good prospects though.
  14. You’re right, chuck Piatek in as well then while we’ve got the cheque book out.
  15. I believe it’s 2 from England and 2 from abroad. I’m not sure how many in the matchday squad.
  16. Blow the budget on him and Benrahma. Job done.
  17. We also hopefully have Louie Barry coming. Although almost certainly he will be considered as a player to develop and not to go straight into the first team
  18. So two of his former managers are Roy Rodgers.....
  19. It’s a fair point, but I don’t think he’s been noticeably at fault for many. I’d tend to blame the defence on the whole. Hopefully the new set up continues to make us more solid and the stats improve. It’s possibly one of those stats that can be misused, in that if our goals conceded gets better, although it will probably be largely down to a tactical change, just looking at the figures the new GK/Nyland/Steer will appear better than Heaton. Of course that could also be true. Stats eh?
  20. I’m old enough but can’t answer your question as to the positioning within the old Trinity. However I seem to remember that during Graham Taylor’s reign, the first one I think, he regarded our changing room as being too big and had it reduced in size. I’m not sure if that involved a swap with the away changing room or not. I assume that it was just some partitioning or as it was under Doug probably a curtain!
  21. I was there but I don’t recall a certificate, must have been in the program. It was a wonderful and emotional day. The Holte will always be special in whatever form it’s in, but that old place...... I’ve got to go I think the wife must be cooking onions.
  22. We used to reverse teachers names at school, always makes me laugh
  23. We’re linked with dross by lazy journalists that never get out of the office let alone London. They think there are only 10 clubs in the PL, if that, and probably know more about what’s going on at Barcelona and Madrid than they do B6.
