  1. Whilast you may be right, there’s no denying that was a tired performance after a long run of difficult games most of which we did very well in. It’s the stage of the season when injuries amd suspensions start to really hurt the less experienced and less expensively built squads, like ours. Why do you think that the FFP immune Man City consistently win the league and late season cups? This January Pep the Cheque will be up to his usual tricks of strengthening their squad wether they need to or not and weakening their rivals, I hope we’re not stimied by the usual ffp nonsense designed to protect the hierarchy amd keep the likes of us in our place. I’ve no love for Newcastle and particularly their state ownership and how it conducts it’s sport washing nonsense to hide their sins but it’s noticeable that they’ve been fairly aware of ffp and haven’t used their full financial muscle as they know the world is watching, However their results and performances have dropped off at this stage, the PL and European football is as bent as a fishing rod with a good fish on the hook. I hope we can find a way to strengthen in January, central midfield muscle is always handy and Sorry @TRO a fancy Dan winger who scores and creates goals would be just fine. Control and fear is a great combination for a team like us.
  2. Absolutely spot on they always say that 2-0 is the hardest score to defend and that was certainly the case last night, but our disappointment is probably a measure of how far we’ve come under Unai and that shouldn’t be forgotten. The truth is they have a much stronger squad than us, particularly at this stage of the season when this becomes more obvious once injuries and suspensions are more problematic to smaller, less expensively assembled and experienced squads like ours. It happens every year when the likes of Man City are always very strong. Hopefully we can quickly bounce back and can also strengthen in January if ffp restrictions allow. Hopefully we’ll find a way but I read somewhere that our commercial revenue, in august 2022 at least was still £12 million behind our 2016 levels, I don’t know how given we had a good CEO running the club?
  3. Blimey Chris either lay off the booze or open another one! Whichever cheers you up? Don’t be sad at Christmas this is the new Unai super powered Villa! Merry Christmas and UTV!!!
  4. I’m hoping that there isn’t a shock and we win easily!!!
  5. Me too mate, if we build it they will come! Hope you’ve had a great Christmas and the best bit is yet to come!!!!!
  6. We’ll smash ‘em at least 3 if not 4-0 they’ll come at us and hopefully make our job easier. The Sultan will know what to do. Then in his post match interview laugh off any suggestions that he’ll leave us to go anywhere as he’s just getting started at his club Aston Villa where he loves working with the fans and all his colleagues including his friends NAS and Wes, who are already building a trophy room for him, which he promises to fill no matter how big and how many levels they build. Merry Christmas and UTV!!! Since Klopp has recently been moaning about the fans at Liverpool and the crap atmosphere perhaps he’d like it further east?
  7. If only he was called Wilsonio, could be a top player but alas…………
  8. I think we do miss Buendia more than we realise, he used to score plenty forNorwich too. We have some good forwards but could do with someone that offers something different as a striker, a Gary Saw, Tony Morley or even a Brian Little would be great and offer something different when we’re attacking teams hard to break down. Zaniolo did great to score his first goal and perhaps now can with more confidence go on or score more but even his goal was a classic cf goal and could be described as an Olly Watkins type of goal not anything different. I’m sure we’ll look to bring in a striker, surely Purslow and his daft projects haven’t spent the lot along with his old Scouse pal Stevie? It’s annoying we had to let Archer go to free up FFP wages, how much is Coutinho still costing us and will we ever get a return on him? I have pals who are season ticket holders who support the delay in the new north stand as the atmosphere is great at the moment and having an end shut if we were competing in the CL would be a pity and wouldn’t help with the atmosphere. They say that the Terrace view is usually sold out and so can be seen as a success but moving it as part of the North Stand revamp would make sense and be a more appropriate location for this sort of gentrification. These are lads I’ve known for a long time and had my season ticket with them on the upper Holte for years before we I moved with my wife and daughter up to the Highlands and on practical grounds I reluctantly had to finally let my ticket go. Perhaps I was a jinkx, we seem to be doing better without me now! Sorry lads! I did have a ST for years not just in the Lerner days so it can’t have been just my fault!
  9. It see,s some people can’t get their heads round more than 11 players in a squad madness in this day and age.
  10. He’ll be determined not to be livid and not to spoil his and our festivities. An early goal to get the party started fingers and everything else crossed. The Sultsn is in charge and lives for these moments as much as they scare mere mortals like us. UTV!!!!! Let’s put another marker down with a ruthless big high scoring victory when a banana skin could but under the Sultan won’t happen. Then hopefully Liverpool and Arsenal kick lumps out of each other and have loads of sending offs tomorrow while they draw 0-0. UTV!!! Top for Christmas and stay there for the rest of the season until the daffodils have been and gone. We’ll be top by 10 o’clock!! Sing it loud so they can hear it in Liverpool, Manchester and London!! The Villa are gonna getcha!!!!
  11. More intelligent thoughts and public comments from our elite manager. Makes us strong if we keep him but equally strong if we have other plans for him and his place in the squad. Thanks Unai you are an inspiration to us all.
  12. That’s a truly uplifting story, welcome to the family mate. I lived most of my life in north Birmingham and was chosen when I was quite young. For a long time I played golf then at the age of 45 I met the woman who would become my wife and 4 years later I accomplished my greatest achievement and pursuaded her to marry me then a couple of years after that we became parents to a wonderful little girl who is now 9 and very excited about the increasingly imminent arrival of Santa. In August 2017 we moved up to The Highlands where my wife was born and raised. I’ve been made to feel very welcome by our neighbours as I’ve always been by my great in-laws so I made the ultimate sacrifice and moved 460 miles away from The Holte End and had to give up my season ticket on practical grounds. Ironically the last game I went to was in February last year which was the last time we lost at home, a very unlucky defeat to Arsenal, who I’d love to beat to the title this year! I think I’ll probably remain a Brummy Highlander until I’m a HEITS but distance can’t ever take away my first love. I’ve just remembered why I mentioned golf. It was to show that people can change I loved golf and still enjoy it on TV but a couple of years ago I discovered fly fishing which has become a big thing in my life now. My daughter is of the opinion that I use the F word too much, which in her opinion is either football or fishing, hands up it’s true but we disagree on her definition of too much! The fishing season for trout, which I try to catch, and indeed also salmon is closed until March but fishing the stocked lochs for trout is still permitted so I can still get my fix, although cold weather isn’t ideal as the fish aren’t eating a lot so they aren’t tempted by anything much that I present to them as a fly, which can be a challenge at anytime of year anywsy. A good friend of mine who, as a qualified casting and fishing instructor, was good enough to teach me to cast a fly line and could now be accurately described as my fishing mentor! His son and my daughter are in the same class at school and he gave up a lot of Sunday mornings teaching me to cast on the school playing field, without the distraction of trying to catch a fish, so I regard my self very lucky. Which in many ways is a running theme in my life, with our football team playing a major role for almost all of it and will continue to do so. UTV!!! and tight lines. As I’m delighted to hear that Dougie Luiz would say too!
  13. Stick as many in the bank as you can mate, they’ll keep you warm for the bad days, which I hope are firmly in the past now! UTV.
  14. People have got into a lot of trouble for misreading signs! @colhint
  15. Hopefully we’ve regained all those who left with Purslow in floods of tears and went to support the Red Scousers.
  16. My Dad, who’s sadly now a HEITS, had a triple heart bypass and was on medication, when I took him to see our match against Milan which we won on penalties. Dad took a pil before the game and popped another couple when it went to extra time! a bloke in the row behind i us asked him if he could have one too! Dad lived past that game and longer too, not long enough of course as it never is. But it was a hell of a game! And he’d seen us through the third division and all the way back to the top, including those times when made the league cup our own. Enjoy your view from the place you’re in now Dad, we’re in good hands!
  17. Blimey I’d just got a ticket for the Frimpong Express! Should I change it now?
  18. Thanks for the update, obviously my,“extensive research”, wasn’t extensive enough! If the Champions of the PL come knocking I’m sure he’d listen! UTV! Bring on the Champions !!!!!
  19. On the subject of RB and after extensive research, I googled him, I’m on the Frimpong express train to glory as he can also add to our midfield too. If we can do the right deals to make it doable?
  20. Now you could have set off a whole csn of worms! Which of course can be used to go fishing, unless you’re a fly fisherman like me, ie. A proper fisherman! Who doesn’t mess about with such things but finds plenty of things to mess about with anyway as any fly fisherman would happily admit! Which brings me to what I once heard from a bloke working in a big fishing shop in Inverness, “All fishermen are idiots, all golfers are also idiots too but they’re idiots who can’t fish!
  21. Be strong mate! I had a stroke back in May so if I can do it I’m sure you can too!!
  22. Brentford are doing well, we did well to beat them!
