I think it's time to get him back playing the ball out from the back again. Granted he's cut out the silly mistakes (which didn't happen that often) but we've lost so much as a team since we've changed our style to a more cautious approach. It is not the only reason, of course. We've lost Grealish obviously and the enforced break due to covid and potentially covid itself. However, I think that getting Mings to alter his playing style has also contributed to us becoming way less effective in our recent games. Maybe it was a conscious decision made by Mings himself due to the criticism he was getting but since then we have become way more ineffective with the ball. What we do is just so predictable at the moment. IMO the advantages of Mings playing out from the back totally outweigh the disadvantages and we should accept the risks that go with it.

You've forgotten the requirement to be able to turn the game on its head and score goals in 20 minute (possibly 25 minute) cameos when the team has no foothold in the game and hasn't showed anything to suggest they will create an opportunity for you to score. Failure to fulfil the above criteria leads to an additional requirement of exceptionally thick skin as you will be subject to torrents of abuse from fans of your own club, and calls for a 17 year old from the youth team, or maybe even the fans themselves, to take your place based on the well researched theory of "well, he can't be any worse, can he?".

I'd say Nagelsmann is already beyond us. We need to be looking for the Nagelsmanns of this world before they reach the Champions League. He's lining himself up for the Bayern job and they have been monitoring him for a while now. He supported them as a youngster, he grew up just outside Munich, so friends family etc very close by. Loew goes after the Euros, Flick goes to Germany and Nagelsmann to Bayern is what I see happening. Having said that, I think we shouldn't be looking to make a managerial change.
