  1. Can't argue with the logic in leaving a player of his quality on the pitch, just think it was quite apparent from his body language that he was struggling quite badly and we have the options off the bench to at least adequately replace him without having to sacrifice a midfield player for it when we were already flagging a bit in that third of the pitch. If nothing else I think Sanson also coming in to lift the midfield a bit looked like it was a no-brainer but as I said it's easy to play the hindsight game with subs.
  2. Leggy game today. Not normally one to moan about subs but I thought it was clear that Coutinho was gassed after about an hour and could have been taken off for one of the attacking options rather than removing Luiz and giving up even more of a hold on midfield than we already had. Think Sanson can be justified in feeling awfully hard done by at this stage.
  3. Ebbed and flowed really. Think Villa have had the better "chances" (Ings, Watkins, Coutinho) but they've been cut out by some great last-ditch blocks whereas West Ham have gotten cleaner efforts off but not come particularly close. They're so physical and organised that it's always going to be a rough one, you'd think a goal either way could be enough to do it.

I have a mate who is a Forest season ticket holder that texts me every game without fail demanding that Villa sell him as if I'm Christian Purslow.
  5. Great that he did this, terribly wholesome content. Try not to worry about him staying until the summer lads, until then just drink it in that he's actually at Villa. Each passing game is somehow making it even harder to believe when it should be the opposite.
  6. What was his "big mistake" tonight? Giving away a throw in?
  7. Definitely agree. Just think Sanson has earned his start in recent weeks but it's great to see where the squad is at the moment.

I love this fella, granted he's frustrated the life out of me at times this season with his his decision making in the final third but he's clearly working on it and looking like the complete modern day full back in the process. Despite some thinking he could be worth selling of late I'd be surprised if we could do much better than him, he's already got the capacity to be excellent and only has scope to improve.
  9. Imagine thinking any CB in this squad is "significantly" better than this guy. So important to us tonight as usual.
  10. I think JJ is and has been excellent this season but Sanson deserves a start ahead of him now.
  11. I'm just glad there's still plenty of the season left to let it soak in that he actually plays for Villa before I have to worry about him staying beyond that.
  12. This is just me being a pedant but I have to say it anyway - he won Players Player of The Season, which is obviously still an achievement in itself but wasn't it Martinez that won the main vote?
  13. He's pure magic, wasn't even near his best today either which is the crazy part about it. The club would be mad to not already have done the necessary to make this permanent in the summer or at least tried all they can to do so.

What this man did to Perraud today should be illegal. Completely bossed him to the point he had to be hooked off.
  15. I wanted to post about this at the time but as I could only recall watching it in real time and couldn't remember the minute he did it, what Brighton player he mugged off, nor even exactly what he did I ended up not bothering. Appreciate that someone has done the work for me.
  16. For those wondering about how the formation shaped up, these are the average positions for what it's worth:
  17. Brighton fans seem to have a particular dislike for him simply because he's been playing for England ahead of Dunk, Webster and previously Ben White when he was there. Makes it doubly funny that in successive games he's beaten them while also getting clean sheets, a goal and an assist in the process.
  18. The tantrums over the team selection have made for absolutely hilarious reading now after the game. Fair play lads.
  19. That ball he put in for Watkins on the half volley for McGinn's chance in the first half was absolutely outrageous.
