    You can take the bonkers weird performances because when he does something that looks like a glitch in the laws of physics it’s glorious. The West Brom goal is still my favourite though. He genuinely tried to roll the ball in as slowly as possible from outside the box and it worked! I think about that goal all the time.

    I've never seen a less accurate bunch of spoofers than Villa ITK Twitter. To the point where I don't even raise an eyebrow any more. It's a heap of young lads in their Mams spare room making things up. No credibility to any of it.

    I think the point is that he is physically unable to compete in this league now. The jig is up. He has lovely little touches but when he drops the shoulder and the defender buys it, he doesn't ahve the athleticism to get past the man, or the man catches him back up. It's kind of an NFL term but if you can't get separation from defenders you won't do any damage. He's like an ex-pro playing Socceraid. He's done.

    This is the worst perfromance I've seen under this ownership. Gerrard is utterly clueless. There is nothing happening on that pitch. Tactically naiive, selections are terrible, horrible attitude. If the owners can't see the threat he is to their assett they are mental. And Purslow should go with him, he's tainted by this ludicrous appointment and shown he's all show and no brains.

    You can't climb this league with a finsher as poor as him on the end of every move. He's not good enough.

    There was plenty of intent. Just not the ability to turn intent into product. How many poor first touches, mishit crosses, passes and shots. We had enough chances to win. Our technically poor players messed them all up. Ollie Watkins is not good enough. He needs to take his effort and industriousness somewhere else. He can't finish. It's killing us.

    He might get in at Liverpool as Klopp freshens up his attack. He would absolutely tear it up under Klopp. Better than at sideways-sideways-sideways-giveittokev FC.

    I know he's not our player anymore but I'm depressed after that. It's like going to the zoo and seeing a Lion in a 12ft cage rocking back forth with patches of fur falling out. He has to get onto his agent about a move. He's not a hug the touchline winger. Even if he was he has no support from Cancelo anyway. I think he's do much better in the midfield for City but he wont ever get the chance. Will be dropped for their next few games now. Then back in for 60 mins. Then bench again. What a **** waste.

    Hard for Gerrard to drop a player who he’s obviously been impressed with and sees as a leader and great character but I think we’ve seen he’s not performing. Needs to sit for a bit and fight for his place.

    Bailey MOTM. The goal was brilliant but he also worked his socks off and was really defensively aware. That takes a huge amount of concentration from a flair player like him. Credit to Gerrard, we have been livid with recent performances, we’ve looked a shambles. Even if we’d lost I’d have been much happier. Great shape. Well coached. VAR is essentially now just another way for officials to mess up. You don’t flag for offside until play breaks down or there’s a goal. There is nothing to lose. VAR can check. The officials are incompetent.

    Ramsey looking better further forward. His energy and drive is useful there when he picks it up. Wouldn’t fancy him in the middle 3 against City. To give Gerrard credit he has set us up well for this game.

    I have no problem with this signing as he seems like he's a hardy kind of a lad. There have been enough soft centred pushovers in Villa squads in recent years.

    Remember when his legs went as a player and he was going to drop back into a quarterback type role and dictate the play? Remember how shit he was? That was because he was tactically inept and couldn’t read the game. He was a blood and thunder, driving run, 30 yard screamer player. He never understood the game. He was never going to be a top manager.

    He'll develop into a good player but he isn't at the races. Not in a 3 man PL midfield. Too, inexperienced, too naiive and makes way too many bad choices.
