  1. Salary caps would have to be tightly regulated to stop teams like Man City giving players base contracts and then massive bonuses on top to supplement it.
  2. I think Sherwood will probably take a look at everyone in the Summer and make his judgments. That is of course excluding the out of contracts and players on loan with purchase options that get activated. I'd expect the following players to all get a shot during pre-season. LB: Cissokho, Bennett, Luna (possibly) RB: Hutton, Lowton, Bacuna CB: Clark, Okore, Baker, Senderos, Donacien, Kinsella.
  3. I think its the same with Ice Hockey. If you aren't competing for the Stanley Cup its actually more beneficial to be at the lower end of the league because you get better draft picks.
  4. That's exactly what it is. Unless they are tough tackling deep lying players then their contributions often go unnoticed.
  5. Have you seen him play in a fast paced, attacking team? Yes the first year under Lambert. It's like you're excusing his shiteness because of Lambert's approach, yet Weimann, Delph, Benteke for example all had sustained success going forward under Lambert. Ashley Westwood very rarely showed anything. I'm not excusing him of anything because there is nothing to excuse and I also don't believe we played fast paced attacking football under Lambert. I just don't understand why he is consistently labelled as shit when he just isn't.
  6. Have you seen him play in a fast paced, attacking team?
  7. Do we actually know that Westwood can't up the tempo to his game though? Unless people watched him a lot at Crewe I think its hard to say what he can and can't do without seeing him do it.
  8. Sunderland have appointed Dick Advocaat as manager.....
  9. So nice having another Saturday 3pm kick off.
  10. But that is new managers generally. In relation to relegation threatened clubs, late in season,it fails more often than succeeds. I'm not saying I agree with it, its just what I heard. I think some people would have you believe that the rise in points is far more dramatic than the .3 the stat suggests as well.
  11. We all enjoy a good wobble now and then. Daz isn't ever going to live that down.
  12. This new manager bounce is real according to a stat I heard on the radio (So possibly bollocks). It said that the 10 games leading up to a managers dismissal the team averages a point per game, when the new manager comes in it goes up to 1.3 points in the next 10 games.....
  13. Vlaar is a good centre-back for me. Definitely above average.
  14. That compilation is utterly insane. I'd love to see Zlatan in England. I recommend his book by the way. Very good read.
  15. Looks like it was decorated by a Bond villain. Comes complete with its very own Paul Lambert as well if you look at the photos.
  16. Could Lowton nail down that left back position? Seems pretty handy at it atm.
  17. I wonder if that is what he'll do. Okore Clark Baker Senderos (Because he has another year left) Donacien/Kinsella
  18. But they haven't been enough this season and we've had Vlaar as well. Going into next season with 4 centrebacks, 2 of whom are injury concerns is worrying for me.
  19. It'll be interesting to see just how long it is before Lambert's name stops being mentioned in this and the matchday threads. Sherwood seems to have almost rid Villa pretty quickly of any signs of Lambert so i'm not sure how relevant he is anymore.
  20. With 3/5 of our Centre-backs seemingly in and out of the treatment room what are the options going into next season? Who would you replace? Would you give Vlaar a new deal? Do we have any youngsters that are waiting in the wings like Donacien? Okore and Clark seem to have formed an excellent partnership which I think will flourish given time so for me we need an experienced back up centre half or two who aren't injury concerns and another young up and comer.
  21. Bacuna was quality on Saturday but defensively fragile. In a system where attack is the priority though I think he'll be fine at right back for the time being but in the future he should eventually be played further forward. Its a bit of tricky one because I think its his last minute runs from deep that are one of his biggest assets.
  22. If thats the case we want nothing to do with them. They made Randy's overspending followed by drastic cuts look generous, they were struggling to pay wages at one point.
  23. The Devil we know is a clown. I'll take the risk.
