  1. Ugh…. He’s been incredibly unreliable with regards to Villa news in Spain. Wasn’t he saying that there was no chance Coutinho would end up at Villa last January?
  2. More than Sunderland? I don't think so...
  3. I think a lot of us are just jaded... I'm sick of Aston Villa being a "sleeping giant" and being disappointed or consistently underperforming year after year. I've been a Villa supporter since 2006 and in that time I've seen us: Miss out on the Champions League 3 years running under O'Neill Purposefully bomb out of the UEFA Cup in our last appearance by playing kids and not prioritizing the competition Lose 2 cup finals because of horrific refereeing decisions Be relegated because years of poor business decisions by Lerner finally caught up with us Lose a relegation play off final with one of the most expensively assembled Championship squads of all time Be days away from administration because a fraud of an owner ran us even more poorly than Lerner did I look back on the highs and there aren't many... Winning 10 games in a row in the Championship Winning the promotion playoff Wembley Landing Coutinho on loan from Barca and subsequently signing him on a permanent deal Being a Villa supporter means we're used to coming up short, being kicked in the teeth, and constantly being disappointed by our club over and over again. We know how good things can be, we can see the fact that we finally have owners who not only have money, but the business savvy to realize our ambitions as well, but it really would be great to finally start showing progress toward that end again. Am I entitled? Yes. Am I toxic? Probably. Do I care? Not at all...
  4. Yeah, it's perfectly fine to say they're both good managers. We're just shopping in another market than the teams who would go for them.
  5. Arsenal fans are hands down the most entitled moaners in all of football. The way they treated a club legend like Wenger during his last few years was incredibly disrespectful. People become Arsenal fans because they don't want to be seen as glory chasers supporting the "money teams" (Man United, Man City, Chelsea, or Liverpool) but actually want to compete for trophies/Europe regularly. I've never met a chill Arsenal fan in 20 years... They're all arrogant, self-righteous, hipsters... Emery was great for them, but hit a rough patch and didn't instantly transform them into title contenders overnight like they had hoped, so the "Wenger Out" crowd turned on him.
  6. Exactly... More armchair footy experts making stuff up because they want to be the first one to say "I told you so!"
  7. Calling Emery unsuccessful and lumping him in with Championship level managers like Silva and Parker is criminal... The guy has won every trophy in France, 4 Europa League titles and even took Arsenal to an Europa League final in his only season there. He's bound to be a sure fire success, given time and a solid budget.
  8. I love Buendia. He's my favorite player in the squad and today was one of the few times that we lined up and actually played to his strengths. Needs players around him to make runs in behind defenders and draw defenders away from him so he can drive the ball forward and pick the right pass. Needs to be the player we build around going forward because he has the ability to be one of the best players in the Premier League.
  9. Sexy new flavor of the month foreign manager. People are fantasizing about his upside and ceiling as a manager over more known options.
  10. Guessing one of the coaches or players leaked the selection info to the press, but the manager situation hasn't been announced internally yet and is still being handled by Sawiris, Purslow, & Lange directly.
  11. I really hope it's Emery... It was reported quietly a few weeks back that Swaris was in Villarreal.
  12. Let's be honest here, Milner pulled all the strings that West Ham game. The Newcastle game was where we lined up with Ireland in the midfield for the first time in a 442 and Andy Carroll singlehandedly destroyed us. It was the beginning of the end under Randy Lerner, we just didn't know it at the time.
  13. There have been a number of players over the years who have made me eat some humble pie with regards to my opinion on them. Dougie is one who continues to prove my initial assessment of him wrong. He's one of my favorite players in the squad now and I was delighted to see him sign a new contract. Can't wait to see what a talented manager can do with him now! Excited for his future.
  14. Competition for places... Kamara and Dougie have the quality to do both roles, but if we need a bit more steel against some tougher sides, Donck can slot in for one of them. Otherwise, it'll be the most in form of the 3 of them starting. This is a good thing!
  15. Someone in that mold, but TBH we dodged a bullet not signing Sarr, IMO. He's way to inconsistent in the Premier League to be the answer for us.
  16. When he's not alone in the box with 4-5 defenders and trying to win floated crosses, he's a threat. Great interplay with Buendia today. I know he has RBF, but he looked like he actually enjoyed his football for the first time in a while today. Will continue to bang them in for us in a 4231 for us!
  17. He's always been a solid defensive midfielder for Wolves, which is what we've been crying out for in the middle of the park. Still starting for Belgium, despite falling out of favor in club football, but today he showed what he's all about for the first time in a Villa shirt. Will prove to be a great bargain signing in the long run.
  18. Brilliant play from him today! We just need another rapid player of his quality on the right and we'd have one of the scariest attacks in the entire league. The interplay with Bailey, Buendia, and Young was exquisite.
  19. Lol... I can't remember which footballer/pundit was saying this about AVB at Chelsea/Spurs. Said he had an individualized thick binder each player needed to study to plan for the next game and most of the team was like "huh? How complicated is he making this?"
  20. Frank out! Oh, sorry... Need to wait a week or two for this still...
  21. This is true... Shows how awful a fit Gerrard was for us. Also shows Lange & Smith's vision for how they'd all play together. We need to never allow a shiny new manager to completely scrap club playing philosophy again.
  22. Must have an attitude problem... No wonder he can't get a start! /s
  23. This is right up there with the 7-2 Liverpool game. Absolute domination all over the pitch. Mings, Ings, Bailey, & Dougie are all playing blinders with the rest of the team all putting in great performances.
