  1. Honestly, that's what it looked like to me in real time and on replay.
  2. Exactly... This isn't Gerrard ball where we defend like our lives depend on it and hope someone pulls off a "magical moment", it's a clearly planned strategy.
  3. You guys forget, the onus is on them to score... They're the home team... We've set up very well to counteract them... As we're seeing now, Ramsey is starting to find space to move in-between their lines and carry the ball forward. This is a newer more patient Villa... Need to get used to this kind of football.
  4. Game is so boring that Taylor Twellman is getting educated about Big Fat Ron by Ian Darke...
  5. Definitely going to take JJ some time to learn how to defend as a right winger... Moments like that are why.
  6. Is Tom Brady playing for United??? Someone check and see if the balls are deflated...
  7. Ugh... Taylor Twellman commentating on ESPN... Might have to watch this on mute...
  8. Seeing neutral fans reactions on Reddit are hilarious... Everyone saying we copied Chelsea's badge and Chelsea fans claiming to have invented the circle before us.
  9. Will you boys cheer up? We've got Unai fookin Emery as our manager and just trounced these plastic glory hunters on Sunday. They're most likely going to field a weakened side, but Chad Emery will want his silverware this season and we'll put together a solid team to dismantle them again...
  10. The selfish Villa supporter in me doesn't want any of our players to go to the WC this year... I would rather the whole squad bunker down and learn Emeryball together instead and run up the table in the second half of the season against teams who will be rotating out WC squad players.
  11. I remember hearing Jamie Carragher talking about how Gerrard the player would sometimes write off new signings after 10 minutes with them on the training pitch. Doesn't surprise me that he would do this with players as well.
  12. He played for Smith whenever he was fit that first season he signed for us in January... I think the plan was that he would start alongside McGinn & Luiz the following season, but Ramsey broke through and developed a lot faster than the club anticipated, which caused Sanson to have to not only battle reoccurring injuries, but also JJ for a start... Smith was sacked and Mumblemouth froze him out. He was clearly a solid player for Marseilles, but who knows how good or bad he'll be for us because he's never gotten a solid stretch of starts in a Villa shirt yet.
  13. Sarr has been incredibly inconsistent throughout his time at Watford. Granted, they've been quite shit in the Prem during that period, but still... He goes missing and at times looks like he's lost all his pace due to his lack of effort in some games I've watched. I'd imagine Emery's sway in the transfer market will be higher than Gerrard's and Emery will be looking at players a grade or two higher than Sarr. Emery pulled some fantastic players to Villarreal for relatively small transfer fees during his spell there. We need a superstar or two to make it into the Champions League. Need to be going after players who could develop into one now.
  14. Really looking forward to this one... Will EtH play a full strength squad or elect to rotate? Is he going to switch their system around to not allow us so much space to move the ball around? Is Emery going to go with the same formation, or will he tweak things again? Will Emery rotate the squad to give other players a run (Ings, Sanson, Kamara, Chambers, etc.)? It would make my day to see us smash the red plastics twice in a week... Their fans will be in full meltdown mode again.
  15. I have no idea what will happen this January... If we can stay healthy and Emery can get the squad pressing and moving as a unit in his style during the WC break, Boxing Day is going to be fun... On paper, we aren't too far away from a squad with enough quality to gatecrash into the European places, but that all depends on whether or not Emery will be able to get them punching at or above their weight. If the squad really takes to Emery this season and we overachieve a bit with results after the World Cup, we could possibly pull if off this season. If not, Emery will have had enough time with the squad to see who is good enough for his ambitions and who isn't. Next summer will be interesting... Could end up doing a Mourinho style clear out and spend on quality & leadership or only sign players to complement what we have here.
  16. This right here! You move up the table by improving your starting 11 and pushing your current starters to the bench. Not just adding bench players. This summer felt like apart from Carlos & Kamara, we just signed bench players.

This is very interesting... Mourinho is basically doing the same thing right now with Roma. Says the reason he went to Rome is because it's the first time in his career where he has been given free reign, lots of time, and a huge warchest to build a team from the ground up in his image. Sounds like top managers are starting to avoid the elite "win now" jobs at the biggest clubs and are preferring jobs with more time, autonomy, and control. It's also exciting to see what Emery can do with time and money... Hasn't gotten both in his career so far. Either has had time or money in a job, but never both together.

Unai Emery: "My objective is not to bring players from Villarreal, it's to bring the concept we created at Villarreal. From there, if a player suits us and we can do it, we would be open to it." Doesn't sound like he is going to specifically target players from Villarreal, but wouldn't rule out a move if the price is right, they player would improve us, and the player really wants to come here for Emery 2.0.
  19. Confirmed that we're signing Haaland! Let's go, boys!!!
  20. Showing his best for us lately... Could end up proving to be a bargain signing for us. Side note... Am I the only one who thinks he kind of looks like Forrest Gump when he runs?
  21. Saw some Man United fans melting down on Reddit and other forums after today's match... Some are already making excuses for Thursday saying they hope ManUre puts out a weakened squad against us on Thursday so they don't have the League Cup cluttering their schedule any more because "schedule fatigue" was the reason they lost today... hahaha Must be nice to not care about the League Cup!

Really puts it into perspective just how bad we were under Gerrard...
  23. What a match!!! So much to digest, but you can tell for the first time in a very long time that we're now being led by a very capable manager. Can't wait to see how we'll finish this season! Man of the Match: Martinez - So many good performances all around, but Emi had a blinder today. Deflection aside, nothing was getting past him. Honorable mentions: Ramsey - Probably had the most complete performance he's ever put in at this level. Was immense and everywhere on the pitch today. Goal, assist, and defensively sound. Bailey - Wow... What a player. He's someone who opens up the entire pitch for this teammates when he has the ball at his feet. Never stopped running today. Mings - When he is at his best, he is one of the best CBs in England. Today he put Ronaldo in his pocket...
