  1. No thanks... Here's why: Only 37 and only has 3 full seasons of top flight management in Portugal Gerrard's team outcoached him in the Europa League in 2020 Despite last season's historic performance at Sporting, his team are already massively struggling this season He isn't ready for the Villa job at this time... Basically the equivalent of being the Portuguese Gerrard at the point in his career... Needs several more years of successful management before coming to the Premier League.
  2. Sounds like Sawiris is handling this appointment himself now. Emery could well be the main target with some of the rumors last week of him meeting with Sawiris alone in Spain. I would love him here... Very very underrated manager and for some reason isn't seen as "elite" in England, even though he has this CV: Won 4 Europa League titles (Sevilla 2014, 2015, & 2016, Villareal 2021) and lost another Europa League Final (Arsenal 2019) Won the French League once and both French cups twice with PSG, where he was poached by Arsenal 70 Million pound net spend at Arsenal and managed a 70 point total (which Arteta is yet to match with more money and only 1 game/week) with 2 points off 3rd Took Arsenal to their first European final in 15 years Is only 50 and in the prime of his coaching career
  3. Fook that! JOE KINNEAR!!! Imagine how awesome the pressers would be!!!
  4. You guys must be great at parties... This isn't your daddy's Aston Villa... This is NSWE's Villa!!! NSWE have: Saved us from administration Hired Dean Smith, a lifelong Villa fan, who brought back good feelings and good football to the club and supporters during his 3 seasons with us Got us promoted their first season in charge of the club Kept us up in the Premier League Got a kings ransom for Grealish when he wanted out Backed every manager they've employed so far (Bruce, Smith, and Gerrard) with time and money Invested heavily into the academy and women's team Actually moved forward with plans to rebuild the North stand and expand Villa Park that the past two owners only talked about Gerrard is the only bad decision they've made so far. We'll get it right this time and push up the table. These guys don't mess around. Personally, Mourinho would be my first choice, but he's already in the middle of a similar project at Roma. Any of Poch, Tuchel, or Emery I would be extremely happy with and would signal their intentions to spend big going forward.
  5. Why does it matter? Gerrard is out! Good vibes only in here, bruv!!!
  6. That's the good ole' VillaTalk optimism I've been missing!
  7. You clearly didn't read the tweet or get the joke from @Tom13... It was about Martin Demichelis not Gallardo...
  8. Thank you, Dougie... Signs a new contract and gets Gerrard sacked in the same week. On his way to being a club legend at this rate. One upped Whelan's missed penalty with that red card.
  9. Yeah! Let's follow up Gerrard with a manager that has even less experience... That's a great idea!!!
  10. They thought Gerrard was elite….
  11. Would be the most disappointed by a manager since Eck…. TBH, he would probably surprise us with results but he played the most negative boring “successful” football in Premier League history.
  12. This. If we’re reportedly ready and willing to start to spend big money on a coach’s salary for one of the elite, we have to match that with a massive transfer kitty.
  13. 1 point from relegation with plenty of time to correct the situation. Believe me, you won’t find a more ardent Gerrard Out supporter than I am, but I’m not letting the Gerrard appointment change my opinion of Purslow. Also, to his credit, he did sack Suso for signing a lot of duds that summer. Lange hit big the next summer on Martinez, Cash, Watkins, and Traore and the jury is still out on a lot of last year’s signings because of Gerrard’s hilariously bad tactics and man management.
  14. Mourinho at 35 with two dozen managers who have won fook all over their entire careers ahead of the man who has won everything in Europe? I can't take this list seriously... hahaha
  15. The biggest fake Villa ITK on Twitter isn't saying that at all... Villamole, is saying we haven't even started searching for a new manager at this time... If we did eventually decide to change, McPhee would be our caretaker until they line up Moyes or Rodgers...
  16. Why does anyone take this guy seriously? He's in Austin, Texas... Are we all so desperate for any sort of news that we'll believe any charlatan on Twitter now?
  17. The only bad call Purslow has made in the past 4 seasons has been to hire Gerrard and Hell, if we manage to pull off hiring Poch, Tuchel, or Emery as his replacement it wouldn't even be that big of a blemish on his track record... He's also made so many brilliant moves... Sacking Bruce & hiring Deano, Taking us from mid table in the Championship to mid table in the Premier League in 3 seasons Fleecing Man City for Grealish Securing Coutinho on loan at a fraction of his value then paying under the sticker price for him on a permanent deal Investing heavily in the academy and women's team Expanding/upgrading Villa Park and creating a downtown academy setup People calling for him to be sacked are ridiculous.
  18. Unfortunately, if he hasn't been sacked by this point, I don't see him going before the WC break, if at all this season. Unless Villa Park is calling for his head in unison, he'll continue to get more and more chances like this. The reaction after the final whistle yesterday was not enough.
  19. Sick of seeing the Arteta comparison... Completely different situations: Arsenal had a bloated, lopsided, over-the-hill squad of aging former superstars on astronomical wages and needed to rebuild completely in order to compete for Europe again... Arteta clearly had a strong tactical plan in place and even though they got battered in some games, you could see the statistical progression over time, with huge jumps in xG/xGA performance after every transfer window. They also spent an astronomical amount of money on new players and took huge losses to get dressing room problems out sooner rather than later. They're playing some of the best football in the league right now... Compare that to Villa... We had an underperforming young squad who needed better coaching and a few key signings to make us into European contenders. Gerrard spent big on older players, scrapped Smith's tactical philosophy for one which we're still struggling to implement a year later, and we continue to show regression in xG/xGA from when he switched to his narrow Rangers system in January. We play some of the most boring, negative football I've ever seen. Even McLeish wasn't this bad, and he once put out 7 defenders and Heskey in central midfield!
  20. Playing really well... No idea how we aren't ahead at this point. Kepa and his posts are having a blinder! Gerrard needs to build on this performance... If he keeps his job after today and goes back to the same dross we've been served up all season, we'll be relegation favorites.
  21. Mings will be a legend if that header ends up being the equivalent to Whelan's missed penalty.
  22. Getting the feeling that Gerrard's job is much safer at the moment than we are hoping for. I'm afraid it will probably require us to be in the relegation zone come the WC break for the board to let him go.
