  1. One of the best assists I've seen in a long time. Brilliant!
  2. Watching all the teams around us playing blinders this weekend makes me even more angry that we have fookin' Gerard as our manager. Another wasted opportunity this year.
  3. Newcastle looking very good today too...
  4. Did you actually watch any of the games from Arsenal in Arteta's first season and a half? They didn't just go from being shit for a long time to good overnight. He inherited a bloated, overpaid, and unbalanced squad with not a lot of talent with huge egos. He spent a ridiculous amount of money clearing out deadwood and players with attitude problems and brought in players who fit his system, and generally spent the money well. On top of that, he slowly added more and more and more to their tactical instructions and didn't care about the score for a long time, as long as his team was making progress learning their new system. That's the difference with Arteta compared with Gerrard... Gerrard has spent big on his players, but we look even more tactically clueless than we did after he arrived. There is no game plan and a lot of excuses from him and his staff. The players look lost on the pitch and some look like they're giving up. Hoping for an "Arteta turn around" isn't going to happen...
  5. What???? Poch isn't more realistic than Potter... In fact, he's probably the most unrealistic name being thrown around here. He'll be the first person one of the elite clubs call as soon as they sack their manager. The same thing was said on here about Smith when we sacked Bruce. "Why would he come to Villa? Brentford are in a much better spot than we are!" Potter would be attracted to the quality of player, infrastructure, and funds available to him at Villa compared to Brighton.
  6. No way in Hell Tuchel would come to Villa, even if he got the sack today.
  7. He's lost the fans now, though. No way he survives that long when the boos start. Villa Park will be hostile this Sunday if we go behind early.
  8. He won't survive past the Man City game. West Ham will turn around their form against us next weekend, Arteta's Arsenal will tear us to shreds the following, and if that isn't the final nail in the coffin for Gerrard, Pep arrives to finish the job. If we don't soundly beat Bolton at midweek and West Ham rip us apart on Sunday, we might see the back of Gerrard before that.
  9. Chelsea down to 10 men now... hahaha One of the worst performances I've seen from a top 4 club in a long long time.
  10. 3-0 Leeds... Making Chelsea look like mugs here. That's exactly what happens when you go into a match with a gameplan and your players execute it perfectly.
  11. Most of the players who annoyed me aren't playing now. Bumford, Ayling, Dallas, & Klich.
  12. Leeds 2-0 up. Absolutely dominating Chelsea for most of the half so far. Chelsea only have threatened on the counter via long balls into the channel to Sterling. You can absolutely see what Marsch is building at Leeds. Depressing to see as a Villa fan.
  13. Aaronson just robbed Mendy and tapped into an open net. This game is a lesson in how to press.
  14. Leeds are playing well under Marsch. The confidence and work rate the players have is impressive. They're causing the Chelsea backline all kinds of problems with the pressure they're placing on them. Very quick passing and movement off the ball on the counter.
  15. Rose had a lot of injury problems at Dortmund last season too, and still got the club to finish where they were expected. He's my first choice, but is probably the least likely to come to Villa with Purslow heading up the interviews. Purslow's shortlist will probably be Potter, Vieira, and Scott Parker.
  16. CASE IN POINT: https://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/ismaila-sarr.57245/page-120
  17. lol... Watford's fans seem delighted at the fee and they're being shot of him... Not a good sign... https://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/ismaila-sarr.57245/page-118 He's described by Watford fans as a one dimensional pace merchant who is lazy and doesn't use it most of the time, not worth 25 million... Considering they paid 28 million pounds for him to begin with, they're very happy.
  18. It's not a panic buy. He's an upgrade on Trez, El Ghazi, and Traore, but he isn't the player a lot on this board think he is. He's the new Shane Long or Vagner Love where the "I only watch Villa" crowd think he's amazing because he performs against us but is extremely inconsistent in his other games. In today's market 25 million is probably market value for him, which is why nobody came in for him before us this summer.
  19. Best available managers currently out of work we should be looking at: Mauricio Pochettino - Probably not realistic, but we should absolutely contact him first. Best out of work manager in Europe. Rafa Benitez - A very controversial suggestion, considering his recent spell with Everton, but he's been successful just about everywhere he's been. Newcastle and Liverpool fans both absolutely adore him and his number 1 strength is organizing defensively. Marcelo Bielsa - Turned a mid-table Championship Leeds side into champions, then finished mid-table in the Prem before the magic wore off. Regardless of the Villa v Leeds rivalry recently, we should definitely consider him. Marco Rose - Didn't work out for him at Dortmund and I was surprised he wasn't given a bit more time than 1 season, but he was brilliant at Borussia Monchengladbach before that and has all the makings of being the next great German manager. Potter has been brilliant at Brighton and should also be someone we talk to, but I'm just highlighting that there are others out there who would instantly improve us and would be capable of pushing us into European contention.
  20. The last Villa manager to go on to bigger and better things was Taylor over 30 years ago to the England job...
  21. Just took a nap and I'm warming a bit to the Sarr signing. Guessing on paper this means we'll be playing one of each of these to make up the front 3. Watkins or Ings Bailey or Sarr Coutinho or Buendia Not going to matter as long as Gerrard is still the manager, but it's a pretty dangerous group for the next manager to make the best of.
  22. Great... Another player to boot the ball into the channel for and hope he does something magical. Massively overrated by VillaTalk too, basically the winger version of Bissouma. Should have sacked Gerrard instead.
  23. It's his fault when we still don't have any sort of discernable style of play or tactical plan after having the job for almost a year. I've seen Sunday league teams better organized than we've looked this season.
  24. My friend is a Spurs fan and he whined nonstop about their performance this morning... I watched the game and thought to myself "why can't Villa play like this?"...
