  1. Doesn't really mean anything, TBH... Pretty sure MLS will keep growing over the years to 40 teams and have two 20 team conferences. There are plenty of large US cities left that don't have MLS teams yet.
  2. Great... an even more unreliable source than MARCA. It's definitely not happening now.
  3. Ridiculous comparison. Asensio wasn't a flop at Madrid, he's been their super sub these past few seasons and has 11 goals and 7 assists in 45 appearances so far this season, most of which were from the bench. It would be like Arsenal signing Zinchenko from Man City, someone who was a very good rotational player for a club winning everything, but wants to play more games as a starter while he is in his prime.
  4. Asensio would be a genuine meltdown signing... Never turned out to be that world beater player he had the potential to become when he was younger, but he's been a very good rotational/squad player for Madrid these past few seasons and is in his prime. 8 million euros/week is 134k pounds/week, which is slightly more than what Ings was on for us. ...but it's Marca, which makes up more BS than the Sun does.
  5. We're missing height... We have one of the shortest starting 11s in the Premier League.
  6. Really hate players surrounding the referee after every foul asking for a card. The trend seems to have gotten worse over the past few years.
  7. Obviously the product on the pitch is the most important element but Villa currently struggles to do the basics of marketing right... We don't even have an official Spanish Twitter/Instagram account yet and we have a World Cup winning goalkeeper and manager from Spanish speaking countries. Major attention is needed to grow our brand on the business side along with what Emery & co will do on the pitch.
  8. Also, before anyone runs to reddit and looks at the 76ers fans not being bothered by his resignation keep in mind a few things: 90% of USA sports fans can't name their team's president (Not their owner, their president). NBA teams do a special jersey each year, which gets a lot of fans hyped up on concepts. One very popular concept with the 76ers fans floating around on social media was bringing back a retro black jersey from the Allen Iverson era, but Chris Heck said that will never happen. This caused fans to solely dislike him for this reason. Wes Edens and his partners helped transform the Milwaukee Bucks into a team punching above their market financially because they followed a similar blueprint to what the 76ers did. If Edens thinks he can help us grow the Villa brand, especially in the USA, it's going to be a good hire for us.
  9. It's absolutely shocking just how bad our social media presence is compared to the other Premier League teams. He's going to build us into a global brand.
  10. HUGE news for the Villa!!! Chris Heck was the 76ers president for over 9 years: Built one of the largest season ticket holder bases in the NBA Set franchise records for sponsorship growth Huge social media following/growth and brand revitalization for the 76ers org This is a coup for us when it comes to the business side of the club including growing the fanbase and generating money from sponsorships.

    Unai Emery

Great article from one of my favorite journalists, LME. I tend to hate ESPN's footy coverage with a passion because they tend to hire poor content creators who are usually garbage MLS players/coaches from 20 years ago and/or D-list English dinosaurs who now live in the USA. That said, LME's stuff is always top notch and the fact that he's a Villa fan always repping the club in interviews and on TV is the icing on the cake. He's also doing a Twitter spaces segment in a few minutes where he's going to show the extended interview with Emery.
  12. Believe me, I love him too, but McGinn and Mings were public enemies number 1 & 2 when Emery came into the club. I just flipped back through the early Emery days of the January transfer thread and there was a lot of celebrating "McGinn's last season" because he'd apparently be found out under Emery and lots of people crying out for Pau Torres to replace Mings so we'd have a much more solid Carlos/Torres partnership.
  13. I don't see Vlahovic leaving Juve so soon at a cut rate, especially now that he's starting to find his feet again. He has struggled a lot at times this season, but still has 10 goals and 2 assists in 25 league games, which is still a decent return, all things considered.
  14. Mings was the first person most of VillaTalk wanted replaced when Emery showed up at Villa Park but he's been incredible so far under the Spaniard. He's probably the last position you'd think we'd prioritize the summer, but I thought left back was quite a way down the priority list in January and look how much Moreno has transformed us since. Pau Torres for 30 million pounds is an incredible value and is a very different type of central defender to what we have in Mings/Konsa/Carlos. He's a faster Chambers that is much better on the ball than most of our squad who could be an incredible bargain under Emery's leadership again.
  15. Merino would be the dream box-to-box midfielder signing this summer, even more so than Guendouzi. He's tall, physically imposing, has elite passing ability, great work rate and defensive prowess, Prem/England experience, and years of consistent good performances in La Liga. Would be a massive upgrade on both McGinn and JJ in the more forward of the central midfielder roles and can also play Dougie's deeper, more creative role too. Although it looks likely that La Real will make the Champion's League next season, Merino is reportedly only on £40k/week, so I think he would be a realistic big money target for us this summer if we wanted him.
  16. 8th-9th is still an amazing turn around from Slippy G's mess. I'm still over the moon with Emery's start so far.
  17. This right here... We need better players in attack to break down teams that park the bus. Wolves basically defended like we do when we try to close out a game in a 6-3-1. Our squad is designed to defend and counterattack and we don't have the guile and technical ability yet to carve teams apart in tight spaces like the other big teams do.
  18. That was not on Emery... We dominated the first half and still created plenty of opportunities in the 2nd after they parked the bus, but the players didn't show up and finish. Way too much standing around and ball watching.
  19. Pathetic 2nd half... It's very obvious that many of our players can only perform when they aren't under any pressure and there are no expectations of us to get a result. McGinn & Mings were the only ones who actually seemed to give a shit. Even if we got European qualification next season we'd probably crash out in the group stages because this squad couldn't handle the pressure of playing a hostile crowd in fooking Slovakia . Now that my overreaction rant is over, I always knew this was going to be a very tough game for us. Plenty for Emery to ponder. 8th is still an amazing finish for us after the mess Slippy G left us in.
  20. Been saying for weeks that this match is going to be the hardest of our whole run in. Wolves haven't conceded in 3 games at home and the crowd is spurring them on. No idea how we haven't gotten an equalizer at least after that half. Dominating possession and chance creation but can't find the net. The players all still look tired and off pace. This lack of squad depth/rotation is starting to hurt us now. We have options on the bench for once, so if we can grab an early goal in the 2nd half, I fancy us to win this. Also, the referees can fook right off. All the matches where we've struggled are where the opposition can foul the hell out of our build up play with no repercussions. Persistent fouling by the same players should result in yellow cards eventually, but it's almost like the refs are letting players rack up 5+ fouls before issuing a yellow now.
