  1. You're right, De La Cruz was always one of the best
  2. Brazil are baffling. Several quality players with no international caps, but Wesley has one!
  3. "Who are you wearing?" "Castore darling!"
  4. This is so true, but also another way to look at his fee is even though we've lost circa £5 million on his transfer fees, how much profit did the club make from staying in the league thanks to his goals. For me he's a priceless player and should always be remembered as a key component in us managing to retain our league status when we needed players to step up the most.
  5. You are correct, as per the below from Fifa: From 1 July, clubs will only be able to have eight players loaned out and eight loaned in during a season. That number will go down to seven from July 2023 and will reduce again to six from July 2024. The cap does not apply to players aged 21 and under, or players who are “club trained” – so those who have been with either their current club or another in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15-21. These are usually referred to in the Premier League as “homegrown” players.
  6. The fact Gerrard regularly played two up tip for most of the 2nd half of the season and half the games where he didn't Ings wasn't available
  7. If we play 2 up top in pre season then he will get plenty of minutes.
  8. I think we're still after another 3 players. But only one as a priority which I think will be the central midfielder. The others I think will be a back up left back and then if the right deal is available another striker, but a more rotational and squad building option, not a big money starter.
  9. He was on a podcast before Gerrards first game and he said he'd heard Ashley Young was going to potentially play as a number 10. He was laughed out of the building and then come that Saturday Ashley Young was subbed on and played as a 10. I'm not saying he knows everything or anything like that, no journalist does, but to suggest he's completely clueless is clearly wrong. He definitely has some contacts at the club and it's completely plausible that the clubs plan with Archer has changed as well, hence the differing reports.
  10. If we're looking to play two up top next season then I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be here. Even if a new striker comes in, it makes sense to have 4. Also having 5 subs next season will open more doors for the likes of Archer than in previous seasons.
  11. It definitely says more about Targett. As a professional footballer, especially at Premier League level, you need an elite mentality, an unwavering belief in yourself that you either are, or can be, the absolute best player. There are a few exceptions where it would be understandable for a footballer to conceed defeat in ousting another (I can't imagine the back ups to Messi and Ronaldo in their prime thought they had any chance of getting in ahead of them) but outside of that, you need squads where each player truly believes he is good enough to play. It seems to me like Targett already knows he can't reach Digne's levels, hence wanting to leave only weeks after his signing.
  12. I can't see that being very popular considering he's available on a free in the summer.
  13. But does he even play DM? Apparantly noone does...
  14. I understand wondering about people not mentioning wins turning to draws, but the reason for that, especially this season, is because for the most part, if we ever score first in a game, we win. We don't seem to crumble in games where we score and give ourselves a confidence boost. The issue is there's several of those games where we don't take the lead that we end up folding and losing. As much as you highlight the points dropped from winning positions, Palace and Brighton have similarly managed to hold on to 13 draws, which is worth 10 more points than Villa have amassed in that way. It sounds simplistic, but it's when we don't take the lead that we face the most issues, and making ourselves more solid in those scenarios would transform this team.
  15. Luiz is a strange one, as he's almost certainly leaving this summer. If he goes somewhere and continues to play as a 6 I think he'll largely stagnate and we will all think it's money earned for his sale. If however he goes to the right team and they play him as an 8 I think we'll all end up thinking we've been robbed and sold him on the cheap.
  16. Literally the nail on the head. Especially this season, we just don't draw games. Is that tactical, player mentality, or a bit of both? Either way, if you turn half our defeats (which are usually quite narrow) in to draws then you're suddnely a much more solid team still in with an outside shot of European football. When we win we can look electric, but when our backs are against the walls we crumble, and this is something Gerrard has to address.
  17. And it's from a guy with 360 thousand followers, and a blue tick. Don't do that to us!
