  1. Well it really doesn't prove that. Tonev is proof the other way around. So, it could go either way. I wouldn't write off any signing after such a little amount of time. Some hit the ground running others struggle they're all different. Luna was everyone's favourite after the first couple of games. Luckily none of the signings have been a massive out lay but shopping in the lower end of the market you'll be very fortunate to get a star every time. Bacuna has settled very well but is still very young so a drop in form could be around the corner but hopefully he'll settle as RB for the rest of the season and keep getting better. Having 2 good FB and Vlaar in the team makes a massive differnce!
  2. When he is up for it we are a different team as we play higher up because of his hold up play. I'd love him to stay one more year with a more creative midfield to play with he would easily break 20 goals in a season.
  3. In this day and age you need more than one system to be able to compete especially if you have inferior players. This year has seen us play several different ones with varying amounts of successful at different times. Sometimes he has played wrong formations sometimes wrong players but hopefully it's all part of the learning curve and Lambert is still learning his trade as are the younger players. Against the better teams we have been tactically very good it's just against the lesser teams were we have struggled. If we can sort that out we will be in a very good position.
  4. I'm sure people just like moaning for the sake of it. If we got Sony as a sponsor whether or not they're still the best around it would be a coup as they are still a massive name who would be paying us!! This would also lead to our name being talked about more globally which apart from money is the main aim so for me it's win win regardless. Also I think Pioneer went bump in the 90's!!
  5. He was only on a month loan which ended this week.
  6. He puts in a shift but that should be the minimum requirement for a player. Hopefully we will sign a couple of midfielders in the summer and I think it'll his position that's first to go. We just need that extra bit of composure and class.
  7. I think he could develop into a great RB fast athletic and can attack with abit of work on his defensive positioning he'd have the lot. I can't see him developing into a world class midfielder but as RB he could play there for years. All we would need to do then was sign Bertrand and defence is sorted then spend any other money on getting a couple of class midfielders. Then up top it's all about whether we keep Benteke!
  8. I think people assume a 2nd yellow should be for a more severe offence than a 1st which is a load of crap as you say Delph was past him and he gave a slight push so you're running the risk. It's about time players are held responsible for committing silly fouls that cost there teams and not instinctively blaming the ref. Anyway it seems things do even themselves out after being robbed at Stamford Bridge!!

I think people forget how young and inexperienced at the top level some of our signings are. When Paul Merson signed he said he didn't realise how big Villa were and he had played for Arsenal so imagine getting thrown into a massive club with huge expectation and expected to be brilliant from the off? He has the makings of a good player and showed that yesterday. I just hope that he keeps progressing. It seems over the last 18 months all of Lamberts singings have been written off at some point but on the whole they have all showed that they have something to offer.
  10. It amazes me how some people seem always look for the negative or blame Lambert for every defeat but then don't give credit when we win! Unlike the Man City game today we matched and eventually beat a top top side we have it in us and the most frustrating thing this season is not showing it on more occasions hopefully a good summer transfer window and we will be set to push on again.
  11. Agree I find it amusing how some thing we can only spunk millions on wasters or sign 2 players on loan. No way there's anything between that. I don't recall anyone ever saying that. This is why this black and white thinking gets on so many people's nerves. Then you should read more. Plenty of people have made a post about spunking millions in response to people not thrilled with our January transfer window. I think most realise we now need to spend more on better quality so the out lay per signing will have to increase as you'll only get so far or lucky so much spending relatively small amounts. So "spunking" millions not to make the first team considerably better in a window that's normally harder to get preferred targets is common sense IMO. This summer is when I will judge the club and even though it isn't good ATM I'll stick with the policy until then.
  12. Hahaha 'alright' that right there sums it all up. Cheering on 4 years of shit because the future might be 'alright' Stuff of childhood dreams there. Cheering on? I'm not some happy clappy **** - I hated the McLeish era just as much as anyone but at least I gave him a chance at the beginning. After that I didn't see any reason to get behind anything he did after a while in charge because it was clear there was nothing to him. With Lambert, I'm willing to take the rough with the smooth in the meantime because I genuinely think things will work out and we'll be back in the top 8 and giving the top 6 a go, which is where a club like us should be. Take the rough with the smooth? Lambert has given us plenty of the former but nothing of the latter. I'd say the Lambert era is every bit as bad if not worse than the McLeish era. And I'd say your wrong! Lambert has a plan without dragging up the past McLeish never tried to win games under Lambert we do. May not be every game may not happen when he does but generally we do have a go. The last half of last season was very smooth and even in this season where 3 months was crap we've still had some big wins. Lerner and Lambert are at least pulling in the same direction. No one said it would be a quick fix it took 4 years over spending to to get us in the mess. Blame Randy all you like for trying and failing but until it's been put right again we and see where we go from there I'll reserve judgement. This summer will tell every one where we are going and what Randy's intentions are until then I'll support the team as I believe if we hit anywhere like last seasons finish we will have a great ending to this season.
  13. Sounds like a plan we should try it one game to see if it works.
  14. Again you're twisting peoples words. Fan support is a small percentage, no one has said it will make a team great but what they've said is it will help. Surely your parents have at some point said to you 'come on you can do it'. Surely you see this is more positive than 'you're shit'. Did you see mourinho getting the crowd going in recent matches? I hardly think you can use a quality manager like Mourinho and his very successful Chelsea team as an example here. You should be comparing us with poorer managers and poorer teams to see if crowd positivity works. Surely that's a better example that even top teams need encouraging so if Chelsea need it and they're very good we definitely need it as we are not!!
  15. It's all part of the cycle BJ. I know in your head that Paul Lambert and Randy Lerner are the sole reasons for anything bad at Aston Villa, but the truth is that there are a number of factors involved and the fans play a part. I have no idea what Randy Lerner attending games would mean for us by the way, but you love beating this drum. Please explain. . Maybe Randy can come and join Brigada with there hand clapping and start a few songs to get the atmosphere going apart from that I don't see his presence at games being beneficial.
  16. Exactly, the moaning and the level of expectation is not the end product of a particular scoreline in a particular match it is a cumulative effect of nearly four seasons of playing boring football and not winning many games at home. When people have been subjected to an inferior product over a sustained period of time is it any wonder that they are not full of the joys of spring and they have a sense of 'de ja vu' every time we go a goal down? The fans are not to blame (as much as some on here seem to suggest) for the negative and insipid atmosphere at Villa Park it is the absent owner, a succession of inept managers, the low quality players used, the utterly boring style of football and a continuous supply of poor home results. Why are the fans so good away then? Same owner same players same manager and we do get better results! a concentration of hard core.....no prawn sandwiches to dilute the passion. My point is the Holte End our hardcore support is not loud enough.

Why are the fans so good away then? Same owner same players same manager and we do get better results! Well its quite obvious. We have 3 or 4 thousand away fans compared to 34,000 home fans. The smaller amount who give up more time and more money to follow away are likely to be the more vocal supportive ones. That makes total sense!! Don't the away fans go to home games? It's about attitude when going to the game nothing more nothing less.

  19. People saying the fans have been quite because of the football are obviously missing the fact that even before the game starts there's no real noise! I know winning a game and playing well will get the ground going but I believe that the Holte should lead regardless of what's on the pitch. If at the start of the game there was a cauldron of noise I think it'd give the players a lift early on which hopefully would carry them through the game.
  20. Outstanding?? Seriously? I think you may be in the minority thinking that!
  21. Thanks Milner seems like a white whale but I suppose we'll try again in summer! I'm not sure what you think comes after stripping back and there's loads of times he's mentioned building the club up. That to me means we will have to spend maybe not MON type spending but sustainable spending which with the new TV deal and a controlled wage bill and continuity of management so your not starting from scratch every 2 year is achievable. As I've said this summer will be the time to judge Lerner as the austerity period will be over so he won't have any excuses and Lambert hopefully will have money to add quality so next year will be the time to judge him!
  22. Do you actually mean that you really wish the Villa fans who are prepared to pay good money and watch dross most weeks would be more vociferous than those who have had enough after nearly four seasons of crap being foisted upon them? I think some fans are at the stage of going the games expecting crap and ready to boo regardless of what appears! There's no noise really before kick off. The place should be rocking when the team walks out hopefully that will make them respond. It seems most modern fans wait for the team to do something then sing. I thought last year our support was good probably because we knew how important it was because of the predicament we was in. This year it's a case of 'entertain me' then I'll back you. Granted the 2 go hand in hand but one should always take the lead. My ST isn't in the Holte so I sat there against Sheff Utd and it was crap and before people say well so was the team it was flat before the game kicked off. Paul Lambert needs to get us winning at least 50% of home games and to do that the team needs to be relaxed and not worried about failing a strong loud supportive Holte would lead to a rocking VP and help immensely.
  23. I'd say if Carroll gets to play he'll play as he'll bully the others hopefully not but I have no faith in Clark/baker together!
  24. You've just posted an article that included that quote as proof that the plan is cut wages and then go again. It was just one of many of him stating that he has to strip the club back ie wages high earners and he is trying to build if differently feel free to pick any quote that suits your POV. Out of interest you said HH named 2 players to you one not mentioned in press now the windows closed can you tell me those names? Just wondering if it would fit in with reports of late.
  25. I'm of a generation that can never accept the likes of Arsenal being a bigger club than Aston Villa. Fair play to them for being well run, cashing in on the London economy/Champs League and totally re-inventing themselves these past fifteen-twenty years BUT bigger than Villa? Never!! We'll be back. Sorry mate, Arsenal are a much bigger club than Villa and have been for a long time. I think you missed his point they've been bigger since Graham and they unlike us got it right at the time of the premiership and champions league. Up until then they wants and hopefully we can get back up there and over hall them one day!! Crowley though is special only his physique will hold him back IMO very slight at the minute and there's been lots of quality kids not make it.
