  1. When has he said about cutting the wage bill and going again? Just because you haven't read it doesn't mean it hasn't happened have a google yourself if you don't believe it. It's been pointed out numerous times but as I've said only time will tell!! I hope you can get the link I've never done one before as I assumed people read most things about Villa that was out there! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22556883
  2. Are you taking the piss? Spending money on the squad when its so poor instead of a new stand is hardly going to turn us into **** Leeds utd is it? However flirting with relegation constantly could see us finally relegated, where does that leave us then? Can't believe we've reached a point where suggesting money gets sent on improving a poor squad over a new stand is taking the piss. Since they day he got here Lambert has been banging on about stripping the club back before he can rebuild it time and again saying how difficult the job was etc. I don't think he meant building the North Stand himself so I assume he meant the team. If you choose to disregard that it's your prerogative but I've tended to believe it and understand the reasons why. Like most I don't have the ability to see into the future so I will have to wait to see if all this comes to fruition. I do have faith in the club to try and rebuild or have another go if you like and hopefully with more sustainability this time but we will have to gamble again at some point as that's the nature of sport and i hope we do we don't fall as far if it doesn't come off. Regarding the North Stand I'm sure plenty of clubs have had stadia/stands built by sponsors and that stand would be so named for X amount of years an idea I think is a very good way of getting a free new North. Stand and a bit more money into the pot. Win win really.
  3. It seems the club is damned if it does damned if it doesn't in some peoples eyes. The club line all along has been we need to get the wages sorted then we can look to go again. HH in his long post said the same lines and stated that we would look to be buying 2/3 players per window instead of 5/6 so hopefully bringing in better quality. Mat Kendrick and James Nursey have now said along those lines. Quite a few posters on hear have posted things saying the same sort of thing. I have believed this since Lambert got here and was the main reason I've stuck by him when performances have been crap. I've tried to look at the bigger picture and believe what the club has said. One thing the club is not good at is PR and relating with the fans so when we do get a bit of information to what the future may hold it's all spin because we had a bad window and a bad performance!! The mind boggles!! I have believed this summer would be the time to judge Lerner and next season the time to judge Lambert. Why can't fans enjoy the bit of positive news coming out without ripping it apart negatively? Some prefer to have Doug Ellis back and all he did was leak a bogus transfer story to the Mail to boost season tickets every year!! If in the summer Lerner doesn't come through and back Lambert I'll be the first to be on his case but surely with a bit of light at the end if the tunnel we should savour it now because as some of you think it may not happen!!!
  4. Next would he take up a place in the 25 man squad?? It may be a choice of letting him go or not being able to play him as he's not in the 25 man squad? I hope between now and the end of the season he gets a few games 2 years ago he was the best player in the next gen but injuries have curtailed his development. He needs games otherwise we could regret it. I'd put him in against West Ham or at least get him minutes off the bench. Lambert seems to like using youngsters from other clubs why not try ours??
  5. Since July 2007 Laudrup has had 4 clubs with Swansea being the longest. Now regardless of what people think of Lambert the biggest thing our club has needed is stability especially when stripping back the club. If Lambert can sort our home form between now and the end of the season we will be in a terrific position to build again. It's then over to Lerner to open up the cheque book again and see what Lambert is really about!!
  6. I've always felt that this next summer will be the one where we find out what is the 'plan' for the club. The wage bill will be where we want it and with the new TV deal lots of room for scope. Lerner needs to either back Lambert or sell up. It wouldn't take that much investment in our team to get us pushing for Europe so I hope when HH said it'd be 2/3 quality signings instead of 6/7 squad fillers that is actually the case and not just a line. The club seriously needs to sort out its PR as Lerner and Faulkner don't seem to have a clue how the fans are feeling at times. Most understand we needed to make cuts but what we all want to know is when we start the rebuild. That alone would satisfy most as there would be light at the end of the tunnel. I hope we can get safe early so we can blood the younger players and see if they're good enough and then in the summer buy better quality to try to compete again. This summer it's a massive one for all at Villa.
  7. Bringing McLeish into a discussion is a joke. Under him we actually never went to try to win any game. Even with the atrocious football we have endured for 3 months this season we try to win. You can see what Lambert is trying to do. Teams don't come together over night yet when we have our big players playing we can play some good stuff and hopefully we can add and develop that in the coming windows. I for one am actually looking forward to the run in as it seems Benteke is back and the others are getting back to the levels of the end of last season and especially after last night I think we should just savour it and look forward to the weekend with a bit of optimism for a change.
  8. How do you know we haven't been in for Lamberts preferred signings and they can't be bought just yet? Just because paper link clubs to players there's no need to get a downer on how our club is run. Cardiff look like they're getting rid of their record signing because he's crap (Cornelius) would you rather that approach? I know we all want the mythical No 10 but we shouldn't let other team transfer dealing effect how we do ours. We win tonight we are 5pts off 9th with 2 days still to do business. I think we will get an AM (Hoolahan) even if it's not the flamboyant name some want.
  9. I think the main reason he's probably on that much is his contract was nearly over and was basically a bosman. He was probably on a 1/5th of that before. I don't think he's worth it just yet as hasn't shown he can compete week in week out which someone on that wage needs to do. The biggest thing wrong with bosmans is young players getting too much too soon and then never expecting less so will only go to a handful of clubs.
  10. Just now read that from Bild, mental. If Schalke sell Draxler to Arsenal then I imagine they will buy him back but for now I can't see that happening. €6m is what, £4.5m? Maybe his wage demands are too high. His wages are believed to be rather high, was in a good negotiation position when he joined Spurs as his contract was expiring and only cost £1.5m despite being rated as a £10m player. .Reckon 60-70k Direct replacement for Ireland then who was on similar wages. And completely piss off all the other players instantly. good move. Interested to know how pissed off the players were with Benteke's raise or indeed Weimann's if you wish to use that logic even when both players haven't been performing to standard. After Bentekes massive pay rise which I think everyone would admit was deserved as was Weimanns he is still on LESS than Delph! That says it all about contracts given out in the past there's no need to go back to them days until it's sustainable.
  11. All of last season v all of this season so far? Interested to know which time period you think would be more appropriate??? Well we average pretty much the same points this season as we did all of last season. You can make stats prove any argument so why not wait till the end of the season and judge year on year? Otherwise it's just tot for tat. I think we can kick on from here with the games we have remaining and I hope Lambert addresses our home form and style which is something that will make or break his tenure. Tomorrow is a massive game not for staying up but for confidence in playing at VP.
  12. Not sure if you are aware we've signed 2 players so far and the days when most business happens are still to come.
  13. But at the time we played with wingers and he was an out and out goal scorer that kept us up by that alone he repaid his fee. IMO if we would have kept Houllier we would of played to his strengths and he'd have scored loads but thing change. We will still get £6m for him if he goes to Fulham so not exactly pittance.
  14. yes but I think it's fair to say that the intention has always been to do the majority of business in summer. McLeish spent big on N'Zogbia, Given & Hutton; while Lambert has brought in 7 or 8 in both of his summers. in fact, throughout Lerner's reign the only times we've spent big in January are in Houllier's reign where Bent was signed to keep us up and O'Neill's first season with Carew and Young (as he had not had much time in the summer to buy players). never expected us to spend much this January as we're not in a position that requires panic. suspect we'll see Hoolahan sign on deadline day: a relatively cheap addition and a couple of loans would be par for previous January windows. . I think you're being too rational it's a transfer window and anything other than hysteria and outright rage are not allowed. So just to join this... I can't believe we haven't gone and got Pennant on a free can't we compete with the Job Centre!!!
  15. Seriously??? Zaha hasn't cut it in the Prem so why would he be good enough for us? And as for Kenwyne Jones he's a Heskey without the work rate or the goals and Heskey hardly scored!! The others are players he's managed before with NO prem exp. We don't need squad fillers we need 1st team quality. If we can get the mystical AM i think we will have had a good window but moaning about what others have done and are doing is pointless you may aswell moan we wasn't in for Mata!!
  16. So should we start asking the Premier League to stipulate rules to give Delph enough space to show how brilliant he is? I think you will find Delph just runs into people and loses the ball on his own. I think he means if he plays higher up when he beats a man which he can do with ease at times he'll be through on defence rather than another row of midfield. IMO he needs to learn when and where to take people on first! Then he'll be a very good CM but I feel we need a passing AM some one to play the killer ball to keep up momentum in attack. I still think we'll get Hoolahan.
  17. I'd have Lescott in a heartbeat. No matter how good Okore is or could be he is still very young and will be prone to dips and without Vlaar the others go to pieces. I'd hope he'd take a big pay cut to come to his boyhood heroes give him a 2 1/2 year contract so he has security but seeing as he's been earning £100000 a week for years I doubt he's that short of cash!!
  18. If we finish 10th at the end of this season it will have been a good season. It will be because we have been better than the teams below us. How good or bad they are doesn't count! If Swansea get relegated will you all be saying yeah but they played some cracking stuff I'd rather be them?? We know this team and this set of players can play good football but up until the last 120 min it's been awful for 3 months. I don't know why maybe PL wanted to be tight and negative so we got the points base early so we wasn't in the same predicament as last year but hoped our strikers would get us through. Injuries and out of form put paid to that and we had a turgid time. Hopefully now with every one fit key players back in the team and scoring we can play the sort of football we are capable of. He is obviously looking to get the missing link to our home form as we struggle to break down teams who sit deep but as Liverpool showed if we pass and move at speed we can tear anyone apart. If It was easy to play good football and get good results everyone would be doing it. Last year was about staying up this year was about consolidation like it or not we are doing what was set out to do. We all want free flowing football and IMO that will be the next step. I believe we will see better players coming in as a sqaud is in place thus helping our creativity at hone. If we can get a cheap AM this window we could have a very good end of season as our home games are nearly all winnable games. There are plenty of reasons to moan about Lambert but there is also plenty of reasons to congratulate him on. Nothing is ever black and white.
  19. Nicky Keye before her promotion
  20. I hope so.I hope that we have better ownership. I don't hope for change for change's sake, as that could be fraught with disaster. Under Lerner I've witnessed: The worst start to a premiership season. Two of the worst premiership years we've had. Most goals conceded in a single season for over 20 years. 3 consecutive games that saw us lose 15-0. Us lose by the joint largest margin in the history of the club. I'm happy to gamble on change for the sake of change because I doubt it would get worse. We have also qualified for Europe been to Cup Finals Won at Old Trafford and others. You can pick good things and bad things about most owners. The previous incumbent over saw a relegation and a splitting up of a European Cup winning team. The grass isn't always greener so when the better times arrive enjoy it as it may not last forever. As said before I'm all for a better owner but don't want a new one for the sake of it.
  21. Wrong on both counts but at least you've stopped referring to criticism of Lambert as moaning which is an improvement. If people were being negative for the sake of being negative then they wouldn't be able to substantiate their opinion with prevalent stats or actually just commenting on what they have seen before their eyes. If we had been playing consistently good football and achieving consistently good results and not being on a wretched run of form losing six in nine then you could state the above with confidence. As it is your just talking bollox. I think to blindly say either way we have improved is silly. For me our improvements in certain areas has been negated by decline in others. Our performances haven't been as good as the 2nd half of last season apart from the opening few games and Liverpool but points and clean sheets are better. I hope this season mirrors last season and we can kick on. The biggest measure of improvement for me between now and the end of the season is rectifying our home form and it's then you can really judge any improvement. Trying to judge mid season is a personal thing as stats can be used to prove any argument.
  22. But with the amount of money around and social media they'd be meltdowns everyday. Just imagine this thread 365 days of the year!! That reason alone is one for having a transfer window. Also I'd hate having to read about Benteke leaving every other day and rumours Bannan is unhappy and wants a return.
  23. No you sure couldn't but we have similar responses each window so I would have thought by now I should have expected it. It still surprises me that it surprises me And we had the same wait and see responses last Jan. How did that work out? I'm sure last year we was told there wouldn't be any signings this year we have an indication we are looking at at least 2 more. I'd say it a different scenario all together unfortunately we will have to wait and see which can be frustrating. I'd hope we have all our signings done by the WBA game as that massive for every body involved at the club.
  24. I'm not sure what some people want. We haven't got the financial power to compete year in year out so I see it like this. When Lerner came we had a go at the top four spent heavily as we all know and it never came off. Unfortunately the people in charged never seemed to have a plan if we never made it and we found ourself spending virtually all our income on wages. That has now been rectified so IMO the time to truly judge Lerner is in the coming seasons. The excuses will have gone just because we have had 3 bad years doesn't doesn't wipe out the 3 good years but would you have swapped 3 good and 3 bad for 6 mediocre? Personally? No. We had a go it never worked now it's time to go again or let some some one else be our custodian!
