  1. oh yesss ...and now we're off on a Super Furry diversion for an hour good prompt that man
  2. little tip for ya, I had to introduce myself to my new team recently I simply did a power point that explained my hobby was keeping a good work life balance I think it went down quite well
  3. it's true that many politicians do genuinely care, but it is unfortunate that for every campaigner, there's a career arsehole that's seen politics as an easy way of being famous and feeling important whilst jockeying in to a position to make some money the sort of person that would write pro and anti brexit articles and then wait to see which way the wind blows
  4. Nixon came to power in '69 on a programme of undoing national programmes, de-federalising much country wide legislation and devolving power away from Washington and the political 'bubble'. He came to power on a promise to end the Vietnamese war. Five years later they were still in Vietnam but had also bombed Cambodia and Laos. The rise of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge has direct links to Nixon's Vietnam policy. He sought to pursue a new friendship with Maoist China. On the principle of my enemy's enemy is my friend, he decided being friendly with China would be a good move in the cold war against the Soviets. He set up the Nixon Doctrine of undermining socialist states and secretly funding anti russian groups. Having said that, he also visited the soviet block 4 times between '69 and '74. Nixon didn't like the '71 election result in Chile. Sure enough, money and guns found their way to 'freedom fighters' and kidnappers and we ended up with the darling of a man, General Pinochet. When Nixon intervened in the Yom Kippur arab / Israeli war, the consequence was a stronger Israel and an OPEC oil price hike that lead to the 1973 oil crisis. There was widespread segregation, there were race riots, abortion was illegal, gay marriage was illegal. Oh yeah, then there was Watergate. That's a very one sided account of Nixon's bad side. But compare that record with Trump rather than the Trump / Hitler comparisons.
  5. There's potentially a very long way to go with Trump watching and commentating. We need some context. If he bans abortion, well 'all' he's done there is return the legislation to where it was in the 1970's. If he bans gay marriage, well that's a return to....2015. As for his criticism of the media, well the U.S. media makes ours look bland, boring and balanced. Just watch some of CNN's content for american consumption. Everything is just liberal opinion pieces with overboard shock expressions being pulled by the anchors. The level of acting from news 'readers' in the states is right up there with the silent movies. It's ridiculous. We have nothing like the bias and drama, yet we are trying to control our media with new watchdogs. If we're already shouting Hitler stuff, it's all going to burn out by June with nowhere left to go, no higher octave to scream. If he invades a few countries and kills some people overseas he'll be up there with every previous U.S. president. Agent orange, the Contras, the road to Basra, Libya. These were not done on Trump's watch. If he stops illegal immigration is that truly something worthy of a 1930's comparison? It's not, of its self, a rotten aim to have. The guy is horrible, he's a pussy grabbing man child. Give the guy a bit more time and rope.
  6. Caught lying about helping a charity: indie What kind of person lies about losing close friends at Hillsborough and lies about helping a charity? The man needs some sort of counselling or medical attention. I can't even be rude about him right now, he has to have some sort of condition.
  7. Lolley having a decent game against Man City. Remember people saying Villa should sign him and being batted down by others saying we can't be sentimental, we're too big a team in too important a league for that sort of gesture. Expensive talent over heart, was the argument.
  8. It would be hilarious if only it wasn't real people's livelihoods and futures at stake.
  9. urrmm some american blokes playing Hoxton Bar and Kitchen next Tuesday night. Station Breaks. I have a feeling I could be the only bloke in the audience so might bow out and go exploring. I might just stand outside for the duration, tutting at hipsters.
  10. quite telling that Gorka repeated a couple of times that they wouldn't use traditional media to get their message across to the 'audience'
  11. big chunks of the press conf on BBC 2 Newsnight now already funny 30 seconds in
  12. nice page so far...watch me go and **** it
  13. He can't be on the space station AND checking up on admin staff. Give the guy a break.
  14. Yes, I think I understood what you meant and the context. My point (on Israel, or the middle east, or the world) was that whilst the U.S. haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory here, what are the alternatives? Do we all take a step back and let the region fight it out? Do we let the likes of the Saudi’s or whoever fund their pet terrorists for more proxy wars, then at some point the Russians can arrive and carpet bomb the Palestinians on to the endangered species list? Do we leave a vacuum everywhere difficult that the Chinese can fill with their sense of what justice means? The hawkish bullying side of Israel, without some thought that other nations might act, could go pretty close to the 1930’s sort of solution to the ‘Palestinian problem’. Of course, the ideal solution is that a just and righteous U.S. lays down a fair set of rules that gets people of every colour across the middle east to meet up on a hill and sing the coca cola song. They all realise they are all just people, have a big hug and get along great. That would be my first pick. As long as our arms exports don’t suffer. But I’ve presumed that isn’t going to happen when I’ve looked at the alternatives.
  15. A bloke in our office was once entertaining us with the hilarious re enactment of how he dropped his mobile phone down a toilet...when he dropped his replacement mobile phone down a toilet. Four guys in a cubicle crying with laughter. Move along, nothing to see here.
  16. you'll have to give me 10 minutes
  17. The alternatives are Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Fascism, Blood Letting Anarchy. I'd run with the U.S. based on that list.
  18. It's the opposite. Grand parents can be full time child carers AND it counts towards topping up their National Insurance contributions as a legit job, should they not already be on full benefits the nanny state but, perhaps she just doesn't like your kids?
  19. learnt a lesson today Being in a small office kitchen and hilariously reciting 'roses are red, violets are blue, this is my knife, get in the van' does not get the laughs expected with two female architects that don't have english as a first language.
  20. There are lots of these totally non-racist perfectly rational and very well informed Brexit voters that are going to wonder why, in say 5 years time, there are still lots of brown coloured muslim types on our streets even after we took back control. My experience of a large number of leave voters in work, at the football and in casual conversation, is that they didn't like foreign people being here and thought voting leave would send them back. The government certainly picked up this mood music and voluntarily 'pre negotiated' a bargaining stance of leaving the single market so as to be able to stop free movement.
  21. the more things stay the same sheriffs and indians taking land profit uber alles
