  1. No space for Watkins to get into the game at all
  2. Palace winning 2-0 so 12th best we can end now
  3. Luiz is dropping inbetween the CBs a lot to play out as a 3 it seems
  4. Cornet is is a quality player
  5. I think Carney and JJ bring a couple of tall players with a bit of strength. Burnley know a point is what they need tonight
  6. Carney and Buendia in the 10 roles. Not bad
  7. Hopefully it'll be 6th best if we can keep a clean sheet today and Palace don't. Wolves are in 5th and if they take a big beating to Liverpool and we lose 1-0 or so to City we could be 5th best.
  8. What does this mean? He's not the one on the pitch playing. On Buendia (or insert any player who isn't playing at various points during the season) the guy not playing is ALWAYS the answer to all problems. Ings when Watkins was not scoring. Nakamba when he was out injured. Sanson for McGinn. Targett for Digne. It's simply ridiculous to expect a manager to do much with one January window and no preseason. Gerrard has got us 7th best defence and 8th best attack since he joined. A win today has us in 8th in the points table since he took over 4 points behind Newcastle. We've lost all bar 1 game (Spurs) by more than one goal.
  9. We have the 7th best defensive record in the League since Gerrard took over and it would be better if we had a proper CDM and Konsa hadn't had as poor a season as he's had.
  10. We can only dream of getting a player like him. He's far too good for us. He'd have lots of Champions League clubs interested.
  11. To me he's speaking honestly. If a player keeps making individual errors that are costing the team what else can he do but replace them? Al the games bar 1 we've lost under Gerrard are by a single goal. The individual errors are costing us. Targett is at Newcastle, he can be rotated. Chambers has played plenty of games. Bailey has been injured. Traore is a wide player and is behind 3 others for the 10 position I don't know what you really expect
  12. Steven Gerrard exclusive interview: Aston Villa head coach on first season in charge and the plans for the club's future | Football News | Sky Sports I agree with him here. We need to change the culture of the club. To bring that winning mentality, higher standards. Players who we we concede first are unfazed and know how to fight back
  13. Players transfer fee's get amortised over the term of the contract. He joined in Jan 2021 on a 4.5 year contract for £14m. So 1/3rd of his fee has been amortised (ie paid via our accounts). Leaving £9.3m left in book value. When selling a player the fee received is offset against the remaining player amortisation. So if we sold him for £10m we would book a profit of £0.7m As he has 3 years left on his contract. I would expect us to loan him out for a season for a loan fee. Say back to Marseille for a £3m loan fee plus his salary covered and look to sell him after he's back playing regular football
  14. After CDM, CB is next highest in importance this summer. We'll spend 20m+ on getting a ball playing CB in.
  15. I don't think you are allowed to contact players who are in the same League until the end of the season. So you should exclude other Prem players from the "are a few pieces not too far away" statement.
  16. It's quite amazing to see how Konsa's defensive stats this season have become so atrociously bad vs last season.
  17. One plays RB / RCB and the other is our Captain and plays LCB Hilarious
  18. I think he'd probably decided Sanson was always going to be behind JJ / McGinn from what he's seen in training. That he wanted someone new in the 8 role this summer, with experience and some stature. Sanson was bought cheaply and his book value is about 9mil so he will be easy to move on for a booked profit. Basically Sanson is in with Traore as a player to move on this summer. Decision made. Bailey is different, he clearly has shown talent in training and as a new signing this season for big money Gerrard needed to see more of him as he probably doesn't know how he fits into the plans yet. While Coutinho and Buendia he knows exactly where they fit in next season.
  19. That's a fair point and one I was thinking about. His pass completion % is shocking and has been so for all his seasons at Burnley. Especially his short passing. Plus at 29 he's never played any football in a side that requires passing from the back. It's just not a player we need at all. We need a different option in CB who is elite at passing or a younger player with huge potential

    Ezri Konsa

He has a contract until 2026 and we hold an option for 1 more year. He's an accomplished PL defender and if our goal is to compete in Europe and go deep in cups we need a squad of a high standard. If anything we would loan him out for a large loan fee + his wages covered ala Targett. It's the best way to maximise sale value for a quality player.
  21. I hope we don't sign Tarkowski, he has non existent passing stats. Worst than even Konsa.
