  1. As if we're to believe Toto Wolff over Christian Horner. It's the usual people will say what's best for their team and their drivers.
  2. His teammate is just a better driver than he is. Like when Button was Hamilton's teammate and was beating him.
  3. Eh? Verstappen had far more pace than Perez today.
  4. Reliability issues are both ways. I'm sure we'll see plenty more retirements from Red Bull this season too. It's a long season
  5. All the other drivers and his teammate - who continues to outperform him - are fine. It's down to the car set-up. He can have a different and slower set up I'm sure that is more stable.
  6. Lewis playing for the cameras there.
  7. Was shaping up to be an interesting race before Leclerc retired
  8. Worth taking into account how rapidly players can improve. I'd consider Archers form this season and how he has progressed as a positive and worth of more consideration than his previous seasons. Its far more often players look great at youth level and don't progress. We don't know how far he will progress. He is very exciting though and I think another full season we should see what he's about. I think at least half of the season should be spent on Loan but I'd like to see him kept around until Jan as he should get a taste of some Prem football and Cup games. Plus a training camp during World Cup.
  9. Who are away? Martinez, McGinn, Coutinho, Kamara, Cash, Olsen, Digne. JJ and Archer I suppose too.
  10. I'd say end of June for those who haven't played since City game. Those who were on international duty probably report back a week later.
  11. I assume a total package they were wanting that. They wouldn't be getting what they wanted but I'm sure our financial package was better than Atletico. I'd say he was given an amount up front of a few million and a salary of 100-120k per week. So it fits in wage structure. Tricky paying a 22yo such a high salary relative to his peers. Ings, Coutinho and Digne are senior players with lots of experience and proven in the league. You pay for that
  12. We have a wage structure now which is max 125k base + bonuses for every position we finish in the league from 14th upwards (that might be revised up in new contracts though given we should be top half team going forward). I'd say only Coutinho is on 125k, Ings is 120k and I'd say Kamara was paid a signing on fee and is probably on 100k or so wages.
  13. You're the one who is foolish though. Gerrard is set on a flat 3 in midfield or a diamond. This is because the full backs are attacking players and the LM and RM cover the space behind them in our attack shape. This is not possible with a double pivot. The sheer number of positional and role changes required between a 4 3 2 1 / 4 3 1 2 and the 4 2 3 1 are significant, wide forwards, no 8s, both full backs can't be part of the attacking 5 etc.. People want discussion on players we might sign, who fit into the system and style of play Gerrard wants us to play.
  14. I'd probably do the reverse. We've cup games and 5 subs. Plus there is the winter break for the World Cup so that will definitely be a training camp and a 2nd pre season. I think he'd benefit from staying around until January when he can go to Preston again of he needs more game time
  15. Think Mods have made an error here. Trigger happy and should wait until the club announce of he's departing or not. As stated by Premier League site the lost doesn't mean those players are leaving the clubs.
  16. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-retained-list-gerrard-24198545 Ash is negotiating an extension as Gerrard had said he would be offered a new deal. So I expect at some point in the coming weeks either an announcement he has signed a new deal or an announcement he is leaving the club
  17. They have to because he hasn't signed a new contract yet. It's a list of all the players who's contracts are expired and have not signed extensions. AVFC official have a tweet out for Hourihan thanking him because he has actually left.
  18. As stated in the other thread. He's not gone he's still deciding on the contract offer he has. If he wants to stay he can sign it.
  19. He can still sign the contract on offer. He's still deciding.
  20. We don't need an upgrade. We just need another option. We only have Ings and Watkins that are proven Premier League strikers. We often play 2 up top so we're very light in that department. Archer might be an option but we need a 3rd senior striker who has proven himself in one of the top Leagues. Jamie Vardy is probably the only centre forward outside of the top 4 that is an improvement on Watkins or Ings. Someone will now list Ivan Toney, but his non penalty goals are very very low and lower than Ings had last season when he had an off season. Antonio and Richarlison aren't better than Watkins for example. People need to realise we have two proven Premier League centre forwards at the club and the exciting thing is they can improve a lot from last season. Watkins for example scored 6 in his last 14 games. I fully expect him to hit 15+ next season and the role a centre forward plays in modern Premier League football is so much more than just goals.
  21. We need more than those 3. If one is Injured and we want to play 2 up front. We've the same issue if we make a sub we have to change formation.
  22. Kerr Smith surely gets a loan move at some point next season. I know he's only 17 and isn't 18 till Dec. Might be a year to early for a CB. Bogarde a better option for a loan
  23. Gerrard said he was offered a new contract. It's just down to Ash if he wants to sign it. Assume he's weighing up a couple of 2 year contract options vs our 1 year one on reduced wages. Plus he knows there will be less playing opportunities next season as we'll have 2 LBs and probably have KKH as understudy in RB
