  1. Isn't this topic moot being as PL has already stated Petrov remains captain ?
  2. In the mailer I just received from The Works it now has these down at £5.99.
  3. Arrived. 2 thick hardbacks in a sleeve. Started reading the first and in the intro to the book he gets some early digs into Small Heath Gonna enjoy these.
  4. Welcome to the mighty Villa Karim. Looking forward to seeing him play, it's also nice that he seemed to really want to sign for us and was pushing pretty hard to get here. Like that me, makes me like the bloke already.
  5. Haven't seen that article I'm afraid, just relaying what I heard on SSN and then crowbarring in my own interpretation of it. My term of expression comes from the 'guess' that he is doing this to his entire squad right now to see who will and won't fit into his plans and where he needs to fill gaps. Obviously I have no real clue as to what is going on.
  6. Just got mine and used the SUPER10 code for just over a tenner incl p&p. Bargain.
  7. SSN saying we are open to offers for J2M this morning. Looks like Lambert has ran the rule over him and found him lacking (for the prem) which I agree with. Doubt we will see him in a Villa shirt again.
  8. Not convinced that Newco can enter the first div directly as there is no legal mechanism that exists for them to do so at this time. SFA would have to rewrite the rules to make this happen and with the time available I can't see how that can be done. Rules as they stand are that any new club must enter in the third division. Anything else would fundamentally undermine the integrity of Scottish Football. Although when money is involved integrity seems to be disposable. Not sure how they will field a team anyway. No money as such and most of the first team have gone and left without raising any money for Newco.
  9. My youngest (14) wore his full home kit to training last night and it went down well with quite a few comments from others using the same complex. He loves it so job done for me. Bit expensive when compared to the full home England kit which I bought him while I was there. £28 for the full home England kit now were out of the Euro's and I think it was around £90 for the Villa kit. He gets full kit from his club but not until just before the season starts so these will tide him over. Do we have any timescales on when bench jackets, wind jackets, rain jackets etc will be made available ?
  10. As for the Villain or Villan, I have always believed it to be Villan. My belief comes from the fact that I had a claret and black Villa bench coat (late 90's possibly) that had 'Villan' embroidered on it with the Villan motif.
  11. I was born and lived in Manchester until I was 10yrs old. My old man is a Manchester City fan and took me to all the home games (Kippax St Stand) from 6yrs to 10yrs old when we moved. We moved to near Dewsbury in Yorkshire where I went along with the lad next door to all the Leeds Utd home games. We moved again when I was 12yrs old to the midlands. When I arrived in the midlands I went along with school friends to see Albion, Wolves, Blues, Walsall, Coventry and Villa. I preferred Villa and bought one of the little round pin badges (all the rage in the early 80's). I finally came out to my old man a year or so later. So Villa was my choice as a teen rather than being brainwashed by peers/parents/siblings. It made sense to me to support a club I could go watch every week, no way could I get to see Man City more than a couple times a year at that age with no transport. Have to say my old man was fine about it. He spends a lot of time involved with non league football (commercial director at a local club) so we get to spend a lot of time together as my eldest lad plays for his first team. Youngest has just moved into the B'ham floodlit league this year but is nominally playing under the same club (it's complicated). I took my experience and changed it up with my lads. Support Villa or GTFO! Luckily all three support the mighty Villa. I guess I'm also lucky in that I have no bluenoses in the family. Half of my family are Man City and the other half Man Utd.
  12. I have no problems with the home kit and will purchase I should think. Not sure about lime green, maybe it will grow on me (but I doubt it).
  13. Then that is an awful shame and a loss for Villa but Stan getting well is the most important thing. Given or Dunne then for me.. I will go with Dunne as I prefer an outfield player as captain, just a personal preference. I know some people will not forgive him (or Collins) for the drunken shennanigans but if we were to turn our backs on every prem player that had drunk too much and behaved irresponsibly then the league would consist of a dozen Muslim players and James Milner. Time, for me anyway, to forgive and move on.
  14. I don't see any reason to change it. Petrov has been a good captain for us, the lads seem to like him, he has done nothing wrong and certainly nothing to take the armband off him. I don't see a better leader in the current squad. Obviously if he cannot recover enough to play semi-regularly then that forces a change. Toss up for me then between Dunne and Given.
  15. To be fair, quite a few of our players may look better or get a new lease of life under PL. I know for a fact that AM instructions to one of our younger players coming on was to defend. This player can in no way be described as 'defensive minded'. Although he tried his hardest to follow his managers instructions it was against every fibre of his being and his game suffered and was then greeted with posts on here and elsewhere about how rubbish he was and a one season wonder. So yeah, every player should be given a chance to shine under the new manager, see what he can make of what we have and then fill in the gaps. Different strokes innit..
  16. Don't get me wrong, I would love for him to come good and really contribute tot he success of the team. I can't see it personally and I can't understand why people are bigging him up due to him doing nothing to merit it. He looked decent against Man U, where they won at a canter and basically let him have the ball where it didn't hurt them. Other than that my memory of him was that he was awful at tackling. I posted his stats up at the time which proved he was awful but some still chose not to believe it. Hope to be proved wrong..
  17. Most of our defence can't tackle either, well not without either injuring someone or conceding a penalty anyhow. Ashley Young couldn't make a tackle to save his life, I guess he was of no value to the midfield either? Ashley Young was never touted as being a defensive midfielder as JM was. Ashley Young won lots of free kicks for us rather than giving lots away/getting booked/red carded having played only a handful of games. In fact why am I replying as it is such a rediculous comparison, which I'm pretty sure you already know.
  18. Pretty sure I remember him being left out because he was mostly garbage. His tackling stats were some of the worst in the Prem and definately the worst in the squad. He was average at best and that's pushing it a bit. Not sure why the rose tinted glasses as he really was/is not good enough for us and I expect Lambert to see that quickly and get rid.
  19. I would 100% be getting a season ticket as I am really excited to see what PL does with my team. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my youngest lad has been asked to move up to a better league that plays around the midlands on Saturdays. As we live in Tamworth and are playing as far afield as Kidderminster and with my eldest playing Midland Comb Saturday afternoons my Saturdays will be taken up. I do intend to buy tickets to every match I can actually get to though. I will also resume buying merchandise from the club shop to show my support.
  20. That black kit shouts Wolves at me.. Always preferred the round badge though. If we have a black kit it should be trimmed with blue not gold.
  21. It's a bit leftfield, I never really considered Ole for manager but having thought about it overnight I am certainly not against the appointment and it makes sense in a lot of ways. Unlike when we have made previous appointments there seems to be more gettable quality candidates available. If we are going to take a chance on someone like Poyet or Lambert or Martinez then why not Ole. I don't see him being much more of a gamble than them. Sick of dredging up the past but everything around this is much more positive than previous appointments. Whereas previously everything seemed rushed, too much expectation from fans and then fans views being ignored. This time they have sacked the manager in a timely fashion and are looking at fresh 'vibrant' candidates who really can invigorate the club/team. I'm relatively happy, not necessarily with the potential appointment of Ole as that may or may not happen, more with their approach this time around. Lessons learned I guess. Don't think I've felt this good about Villa since MON left.
  22. Well what can you do ? RL owns my football club. I have criticized him over past decisions but I have to put my faith in him getting it right this time. He has all but admitted AM was a mistake which alone has restored some of my faith in the man. I can only hope that he can take us forward once again after the setbacks of the last couple of seasons. I don't think many Villa fans expect him to deliver CL football, most of us just want to be competative (wether a good cup run or challenging for places at the right end of the table) and to be able to enjoy the football on offer. No good dwelling on past events, better to look forward at this point in time and give him our support.
  23. Turned my back on my own club and put myself in exile the day AM joined the club in protest (nothing to do with Blues). Other than a shirt I had gifted to me I stuck to my word and stayed away from Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath and all merchandise. Suprised it took this long but I did say I would be here looong after he was gone, so here I am back and dizzily happy. Onwards and upwards Rodney, onwards and upwards.
  24. If, and it's only a matter of time, AM is announced I have made the decision that I will be following my eldest sons team in the Midland Combination League. Nothing really against AM other than it being bad for the club as a whole. More to do with the fact VP will not be an enjoyable place to be next season, certianly not somewhere I would actually pay money to be.
  25. The whole thing makes as much sense as this picture ; (I know it's bin dunne but I am lost for words to describe how little sense this makes to me.
