  1. Having watched it back on the telly I think I was overly critical of his performance although for me it was still poor. The problem as I see it is that he doesn't belong in this particular team. He may do well in a future GH team that is focused on holding the ball and passing around opponents but that team doesn't exist at the moment. The problem of course is will GH still be here to create that passing team.
  2. Utterly useless today yet got 2 motm votes on the match thread. Unbelievable. Couldn't win a tackle if his life depended on it, pushed off the ball, gave the ball away, totally and utterly useless and the worst player on the pitch today by a country mile. Petrov may be getting on but he was twice the player Makoun was today.
  3. Friedel - 7 Walker - 5 Collins - 7 Dunne - 6 L Young - 7 A Young - 7 Makoun - 4 Petrov - 8 Downing - 8 Gabby - 7 Bent - 6 Petrov - MoM
  4. Hughes for me. Although he signed a 2 year deal at Fulham (1 year left) I have been led to believe that it isn't set in concrete and could allow him to join us, although they want him to sign a longer deal.
  5. If he hadn't stuck his foot out there would have been no decision to make. As I said it was stupid, he forced the ref to make a decision (which he got wrong). Saying 'It's not fair' doesn't change that fact, or the fact he has been poor sice he arrived and shouldn't be in the first team, which was the actual point of the post and the same point I made 3 weeks ago. He has done nothing to warrant a first team place ahead of other squad members.
  6. Shouldn't have been stabbing his foot out, it was stupid, we got punished, he was at fault.
  7. I admit those specific stats showing one part of his game in one specific game look good (passing at Utd). Other stats (tackling) show him as poor. So I stick by my analysis that so far he has been average, or taking into account the 3 match ban (of his own making), below average. I am not saying he is or is not an average player, I am saying on his outings for Villa so far he has been average in his performances. Great passers are ten a penny in Italy and Spain, it takes a lot more than passing to make a great player. Quoting myself from 3 weeks ago. Add a penalty given away (wrongly awarded or not) to that list and he has definately been below average. Should not be anywhere near the first XI. We cannot play a midfielder in a relegation battle that simply cannot tackle.
  8. My choice ; Get some of that Tiger Blood in the dressing room.
  9. Oh I am certainly looking forward to seeing more of him. In fact part of the point I was making was that we haven't really seen enough of him yet to make a judgement one way or the other. There are mitigating circumstances to most sub par performances, doesn't change the level of performance though. If Collins was shit against Wolves and it came to light he'd drank eleventy pints of Stella the night before would it change the fact he had a shit game ? No, but there would be mitigating circumstances. He got a red card for a rash challenge, got sent off and a 3 match ban, in my book that's a bad day at the office regardless of how he was playing up to that point. The post was more directed to those speaking of Makoun like the second coming of Merse and using him to prove how 'fantastic' GH is in the transfer window. He has proved nothing either way yet.
  10. Poor against Wigan Good against Utd Good against Fulham V Poor against Blackpool To me that makes him just below average so far. The guy can pass, no doubt about it, he cannot tackle though which is a problem when your touted as a defensive midfielder. 2 yellows and a red in 4 games having been withdrawn in one and faded in another. A decent analysis of his performances can be found http://astonvillablog.com/makoun-review-what-to-make-of-up-and-down-start/ Edit: To add a quote from the above piece ; I admit those specific stats showing one part of his game in one specific game look good (passing at Utd).
  11. Think he has been average so far, in fact considering the red card and being missing for 3 games, below average.
  12. Why was Milner a Villa fan hero ? He kept his gob shut and worked his bollocks off. It's a pretty straightforward solution to Irelands problems but he prefers to whinge like a spoilt child instead of rolling up his sleeves. Been treated poorly, tough shit, man the **** up get on with it.
  13. I thought his enthusiasm, ball control, skills were all good last night. Obviously struggled a little with the position he found himself in but gave a good account of himself anyway. I expect him to be an important player for us in the future. Happy about this.
  14. Call me old fashioned but I liked it when you used to go out and try and win cup matches. Edit : Dunne MoM for me. Solid game against his old club.
  15. I believe we will win this. As many have said Blackpool are a bit shaky at the moment, they don't have strength in depth, players are bound to be a little demoralized. Adams wanted away but seems to be stuck there after the club pulled a fast one on deadline day and I think that has to play on the mind. They must now be fearing a relegation scrap too which may affect the players. For us, we have been improving of late. We have 2 players that scored for their Country midweek so imagine they will be buzzing with confidence. We have a full squad to choose from and far more options than the Oranges. I'm not convinced Makoun will be overawed by Charlie Adam. If the manager plays it right we can win this and put them firmly behind us.
  16. Loaned in the window from Stoke. Pulis wouldn't play him because he was fat and unfit. Not sure those were the exact words he used but it's what he meant.
  17. Fulham are doing ok this season. their Away form isn't as good as their Home form which gives us a slight advantage. That said their away results have still been pretty tight, quite a few draws and when they have lost its been by a single goal more often than not. Liverpool 1 - 0 Fulham Tottenham 1 - 0 Fulham Arsenal 2 - 1 Fulham Chelsea 1 - 0 Fulham I think it will be a tight game. Over half way through the season and we still don't seem to vbe anywhere near a settled team. 1 - 1 draw for me. Hoping we squeeze it by a goal though.
  18. Wait until she's out the house. Set fire to her clothes, shit in her favourite handbag and then leave. Why the **** would you be hanging round for ? Pick somewhere on the map and go, things have a way of working themselves out once you take that first step.
  19. I also read that Newcastle may make a £9m offer for Ireland. The very next story of course was how we would use that money and buy Jermaine Jenas for £10m I'm suprised it's took them this long to post that recurrent link up. 2+2=5 is my impression. Still I'd swap Ireland for Jenas tomorrow even if I do prefer Huddlestone.
  20. I have no objection to having a bit of a kooky guy in the dressing room in the mould of a Gazza type, lightening the mood and such, but he doesn't even seem to add that. He just comes over as a bit of a nut job. Thought he was fantastic in that good season he had for City. Has done absolutely nothing at the Villa though so I would be looking to get rid even if we lose out a little in the short term as then he is off the books and we can put him behind us and move on. If we can't get shut then I would let him out on a loan even if we do have to contribute toward his wages but it wouldn't be to a premiership competitor. I would look abroad or the championship.
  21. I originally put down to sack him at the start of the window. As it no longer seems a viable or likely outcome I will swing straight into the back him camp. He is after all managing my club so if he is staying, which looks likely, then I will give him my absolute backing until the end of the season. I will revue my opinion again then. For the record I actually quite like the bloke. Well spoken, educated with a decent sense of humour is how he comes across to me.
  22. Is all unsubstantiated. This is your personal opinion based on nothing. I could counter your argument about the 'unexpected' exit of MON by showing you an article in the broadsheets from April of that year where MON basically states that he would walk if certain events transpired. This events transpired by the will of the owner thus you could say he had known MON would go since the April. As I said though, what's the point. We could and have go on for months with argument and counter argument for something that will eventually, years down the line, come out in the wash. We have more important worries and concerns directly in front of us.
  23. Sorry, was kind of the convoluted point I was trying to make. Were not going to find out any more actual facts for a while. The guy has been gone for ages and even knowing more facts isn't going to help us at present so I fail to see why MON is brought up in every thread. /le sigh
  24. Randy bought a load of flops, blamed it all on MON and forced him out of the club 4 days before the start of the season. Going off available information this is just as likely as the guff others pour out. Until the auto biography comes out it's all guess work. No official rundown of events has ever been published so anything said about it is merely unfounded speculation and rumour.
  25. If he stays then the minimum expectation will be automatic promotion to the Prem.
