  1. Best jokes of the Edinburgh Fringe, according to comedians selected by Dave. Cue disappointed groans, but some of them are fairly funny (more so in the context of watching the performance, I imagine).
  2. I enjoyed the series but still wasn't totally convinced of his innocence. There have also been articles such as this one and this too, that shed light on some things that weren't included in the documentary. The response has generally been that the evidence that they left out wasn't significant, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The documentary makers also seem to claim that they're objective, which is also clearly not true. However, it certainly does show up huge, worrying flaws in the US justice system - not that this kind of thing is isolated to the US. I'm looking forward to the follow-up, but hear that they weren't present at the recent Dassey case, which seems strange.
  3. The issue there is that Ayew will do his defensive duties, but you have absolutely no chance of Traoré doing the same.
  4. I lost my watch at a party once. An hour later I saw some guy stepping on it while he was sexually harassing some woman at that party. Infuriated, I immediately went over, punched him and broke his nose. No one does that to a woman, not on my watch.
  5. Check the transfer thread and usual places for the updates. We've been heavily linked with Bamford and Wells, and RDM has repeatedly said (including in his interview after the game today) that we're looking at bolstering our options in attack. I have a hunch that we'll proceed with the rumoured Morrison deal too now that it appears Diawara is heading to Napoli, but who knows.
  6. How glorious it is to have two relatively competent centre-backs.
  7. Ayew could certainly do a job for us up front; the problem is us not having an adequate replacement in midfield. Not only in terms of beating a man and opening up space, but someone willing to put the effort into his defensive work for 90 minutes - I've been very impressed with Ayew in this respect so far this season. You're totally right that it's a little more depth that we need.
  8. Really difficult to tell whether he'll ever be able to make an impact. Obviously he's never been the quickest of players but he's probably not going to get a decent run in the team for us to even see whether he's able to get up to speed. He has/had (I just can't tell at the moment) the ability to score a lot in this league, but he'd need a consistent run for us to even see if that was still possible after his injuries. We need to be patient in a lot of ways this season, but I'm not sure we can afford that level of patience when it comes to Libor, which is a shame.
  9. Absolutely agree with this. He's the type of player you'd love to bring on in a game like today's. That said, his heart clearly isn't in it and I'd be worried that he'd just as likely not cover his man and leave a gap leading to a goal from the opposition as I'd be hopeful of him having a positive impact. So the sooner we can get rid of him, bring some money in and invest it elsewhere, the better.
  10. So, the areas we're already working on. You haven't really answered my original question at all, which was what we need to do that we haven't already. If your post here means bring in another striker and perhaps another creative midfielder, then it appears we're working on those things. That considered, I'm not sure what you mean, when you say there's a lot we need to improve on. Either you're incredibly impatient, or ignorant to the work that we are doing.
  11. Nah, he's also competent at lunging in after the ball has gone.
  12. Mainly we just need different options, so we can change our style of play depending on the opposition or how the game's going. That's why RDM has identified the need for a different type of striker. Perhaps another winger would help - a more traditional one. Not that they'd need to replace anyone in the first team, but to add depth to the squad. I think Bacuna's doing a decent job at right-back and he's the best player we've got in that position by far, but I wouldn't be averse to us signing a new first team RB so that we have Bacuna as an option to cover at RB, CM or RM.
  13. I didn't ask you why we need to improve. I asked you what we need to do that we aren't already doing.
  14. Seriously, what do you think we need to do that we aren't already doing?
  15. I'm not sure how we managed to keep a clean sheet today considering you've described both of our central midfielders as a 'non-presence'!
  16. I interpreted it as you wanting him sold, but fair enough. As I said, I still think he should be in the first team, with the right players around him. Others disagree and will stick to that, which is fine.
  17. Typical of some people's views on Westwood. Declaring he "has to go" while at the same time saying he has a "squad role to play". So, clearly, it's not the case that he "has to go" at all - we do need a squad. Personally, I still think he should be starting, but am happy to see him as a squad member if we can improve central midfield with other options. I think he'd work very well in a three, or against certain opposition in a two with someone other than Gardner alongside him.
  18. I'm really still not getting the Westwood hate. Won't go into my views again as I have done extensively in his thread.
  19. If we're to play some sort of possession football, which will make sense in a lot of games in this division, you need a player in midfield who can keep things ticking over nicely. At this level, Westwood is certainly capable of being that player. I have no doubt that he shifts it sideways a lot, but that's often to help in switching the play and finding men in space. It isn't as simple as being a 'defensive midfielder' or an 'attacking midfielder' at all. I don't really like using terminology to define players' roles when in reality they are different depending on how each manager wants them to operate in their side, but Westwood is more of a deep-lying central midfielder than a defensive one. That said, I think he's done his defensive duties very well this season. Statistics about 'key passes' also aren't necessarily a good indicator of a player's performance in midfield. I decided to quickly Google Xavi's passing stats, who I think is the greatest player I've seen to play a role something similar to Westwood's. Now I'm not for one second claiming that there is even a remote similarity in ability, but Xavi was also a central midfielder who was there to keep things moving and set up moves for attacking players to do their work. In 2013, Xavi played the 'perfect passing game' against PSG. He completed 92 of 92 passes (or 96 of 96, depending on the source). How many of them were 'key passes'? None. Yet was Xavi still a hugely important figure in that team, the cog that kept them ticking? The one that selected where the play should be going and finding players in space from which attacks could be built? Yes. And he's certainly not quick, strong or tall - attributes you also seem to think that players in this position should have. With the right players around him, Westwood is absolutely good enough for where we are at the moment. I also reckon that if he does have a solid defensive midfielder alongside him, such as Jedinak, he'll be able to get forward more and will grow in confidence when it comes to his attacking play. He and Tshibola also look capable of building a good partnership, where one sits when the other goes forward.
  20. How odd that people are choosing now to criticise Westwood. First of all, I think he's had a really positive start to the season. I went to the Rotherham game and he was excellent. Was happy for him to go this summer but he's definitely got enough ability to be an important player at this level, and a season or two in the Championship should do him good - none of our players were making any progress over the last few years and Westwood's done well to come out of it and pick things up, unlike several other players. Even if you still don't rate him all that much, though, the fact is we need a squad and shouldn't be getting rid of him for that reason at least. With that in mind, I have no idea why people are having a pop now.
  21. Echoing what others have said, I thought Westwood was excellent today. He shielded the ball well, passed crisply and shifted the play across the pitch brilliantly. He also covered the defence well and seemed to track his runner closely, whereas in the past he's been guilty of switching off on occasion. Before the game, I must admit I was happy for him to be moved on.Seeing his performance today, admittedly against fairly weak opposition, I think it's really important we keep hold of him.
  22. Overaction. That's what we need from some of our players.
