  1. Both Götze and Kagawa have been linked with United fairly frequently over the last few months. Shinji apparently spoke of his interest in joining them when speaking with Japanese journalists, but has more recently dismissed his interest in a move away and should be signing a new contract. Götze has spoken of having no interest in leaving us despite being linked to United and Barcelona, and Michael Zorc, the sporting director, said that a offer in the region of €15m (various media have suggested United may bid around £10m) would not even be considered.
  2. Well we're without Barrios for the first 5-6 weeks of the season. He was injured at the Copa América, but the Paraguayan national team's doctors said that it wasn't anything serious. Barrios was then given an MRI scan back in Dortmund (where he apparently was willing to return early as he wasn't comfortable with the initial diagnosis) and it turns out that he has an 'abnormal' muscle tear. Klopp's not too happy about it! Gündogan has been called up to the Germany squad for their friendly against Brazil, which is great news, and could travel to Euro 2012 if he proves himself worthy of a place. He's certainly looked good in pre-season. Schmelzer misses out through injury, but Bender, Hummels and Götze are all in the squad, too:
  3. Is this thread not about Petrov / the captaincy? Genuine question - who would people like to see as captain if Petrov were to be replaced in the starting XI?
  4. Joined! Aiming to keep an eye on this for more than the first couple of weeks this time, but then again I did say that last season. And the season before.
  5. Gosh. It's so far of the mark. I should change it to Mortimer thinks Petrov is great. That would be far more accurate. Or rather, average? He describes him as a 'Steady Eddie' type, which I'd be inclined to agree with.
  6. At what point does Mortimer say that Petrov is 'rubbish'? With thread titles like that, you could be writing headlines for The Sun!
  7. I can see why people think it's not necessary, but I'm also glad that there will be more football. I don't care if the extra matches are along the lines of Hungary v Romania, I like football and there will still be entertaining games between sides like that (although admittedly, many sides may follow the trend of playing 'boring', defensive football in order to advance to the latter stages). Either way, you're going to end up with 16 decent teams after the group stage, and it'll be great to have those 16 teams (and there are 16 teams qualifying now anyway) fight it out in knockout format. Plus, as others have said, it means that the Home Nations and Ireland are more likely to qualify, which I'd like to see.
  8. Agüero was only 17 when he joined Atlético, though. I think his impact here will be more down to Mancini's tactics. Fantastic player though.
  9. I can just see Torres getting his first hat-trick in this game! Hopefully not though! Should be a decent game, shame I'm at work.
  10. Most leagues? I assume you mean many of the teams in the Premier League, a few in Serie A and La Liga, and a handful of teams in the Bundesliga? They're significant signings for PSG. Ligue 1 may not be at the level of the top three or four divisions in Europe, but it's still fairly strong.
  11. Amen to that. There are plenty of adverts on TV that annoy me, but this one takes the biscuit. Absolutely everything about it makes me want to tear my hair out, and I would love to punch that stupid clearing in the woods in the face so, so much. Who the **** runs (in the most annoying possible way) out of a van and into into a changing room (in which men are shaving?!) with an iPhone, whooping as he enters, and... I won't go on. I'm not just going to write a summary of the advert, just: AAARGH!
  12. correct. having an 'old man's back' was the phrase. Woah there, let's not let facts get in the way of this! :winkold:
  13. On a probably-not-very-interesting side note, I heard recently that Luis Enrique came to my home town (which is pretty small, population around 12,000) when he was younger as an exchange student, and played a few games for one of the local junior teams that my younger brother later joined.
  14. Nice! It could always be worse v4e, you could also be a **** Dortm... oh hi Trog! Schweinhund!
  15. Apparently Barcelona have a buy-back clause in Bojan's Roma contract; they can resign him for €13m at the end of the season after next. Roma can remove the clause from his contract, but this would force the total cost of the transfer to €40m.
  16. Yup, similar to the annoyingly vocal people who feel the need to constantly tell everyone that 'I'm just me, and if you don't like it, then... well... I don't care!' Yes, we get it, you realise that you're the type of person who annoys people but you aren't going to change.
  17. Some of the cynical, myopic and even insulting garbage that gets posted in the General's thread. Jesus wept.
  18. "A letter has come off the sponsor on my new shirt. SACK THE BOARD!"
  19. That fee does also include a €70m payment to Brylcreem, though. Wow, that photo ensures that Hamšík steals the 'footballer who most resembles a lesbian' award from Javier Hernández!
  20. I'm often pedantic about grammar and was inclined to vote for 'hero', but at the same time I can see where people like Stephen Fry are coming from. However, I'm definitely with BOF on the above.
