Be careful - I got stung in Krakow because the laptop would not power up and the power cable was with the rest of the checked-in luggage. When it wouldn't power up, I was promptly told to "throw it away" as they could not take it on as hand luggage.
Needless to say, that was not going to happen and when I requested that it be put in the hold, I was more or less frog-marched back to the check-in desk to check in my rucksack into the hold. It cost me a fortune and if it wasn't for a bit of good luck, I would have missed my flight.
If you need to take a laptop into hand luggage, I would suggest that it is fully charged (you say you want to take on a charger as well so make sure you have a power converter if needed).
