  1. I don’t see it as impossible but have you ever seen the film Inception? I think that’s exactly what this is. people can’t be told/persuaded that Brexit is a really shitty idea. They have to think they’ve come to that realisation on their own. Even though people like you and me have been telling them it’s a really shitty idea from the start.
  2. The pronoun thing doesn’t really irritate me at all. With all of this (as with a lot of things in life) I’d always asked myself “is it hurting anyone” by calling someone “they” rather than he/she. Most of the non-militant trans crowd will be fine with an accidental slip into he/she pronoun as they’ll understand it’s something that’s a recent development in their movement. The whole bathroom thing I can see why people (mainly women) have a problem with that. It makes some uncomfortable for their safety and for that reason someone is being hurt by it. Still, I’m yet to read about an example of a man identifying as a woman to perv in the bathroom.
  3. Not to be really negative about Gerrard before he's even signed (I'm actually coming around to it a little) and I agree the Kamara thing was handled well, but we can't forget he also defended obviously racist eam mate Luis Suarez and wore a T-Shirt supporting him before a game.
  4. It's all backwards really. When I think about how any normal person would think in this situation - If I have a job that pays me ~80k and another job that pays me ~150k, I think I would know which was my "main" job and which was my "second" job. So basically we have a load of MP's who's primary job isn't being an MP. I don't think this is a situation we can tolerate. Frankly, they're taking the **** piss out of their constituents and the country.
  5. The reality of our situation right now is that any young manager who managed to get us to Europe would (quite rightly) be attracting massive attention from other clubs. As you pointed out though, in order to get to that place that manager would have had to take this club forward significantly and would leave us in a better place than now. Can't ask for more than that.
  6. Did you watch that final? They lose that game 19 times out of 20. He was extremely lucky that day.
  7. I'm really not convinced by the Denmark manager. Think if we go foreign we really should be taking a look at Lucien Favre. Failed at Dortmund but has a record of taking teams of a similar size to use forward - Nice, Gladbach etc.
  8. Gutted for smith. Clearly loves the club and the fans to a man want nothing more than to see a villa man in the top job getting success. That being said it’s hard to argue he hadn’t lost his way this season. Can’t have spent the money he has and be this far into a season and still not know what his best formation it, let alone his best team. He’ll know doubt feel he’s earned the right to try and sort it out but I think this is a mark of where we are as a club. The owners want more and clearly the faith had gone from the owners as well as a fair amount of the supporters, even if the love was still there.
  9. If he comes out for the second half smith should be sacked for that alone.
  10. Yeah I’m pretty sure you don’t want the tories to go “full Tory”. You really won’t like the results. People dying in the street because they’ve dismantled the nhs and social care system so that only those that can afford it can get the help they need. The return of the poor houses for those that fall on hard times and can’t afford to pay their bills because they’ve removed all the safety nets. Massive deregulation of pretty much every industry leading to runaway capitalism and basically the worst excesses of greed. Manipulation of the political structure to shut out all the other parties because ya know, tories were born to rule. I could go on but frankly there isn’t enough time in my day.
  11. He's quit to "Escape the cruel world of politics"...complete lack of any sense of reality or humility. Caught with his hands firmly in he til but it's everyone elses fault for being nasty to him. This corrupt **** should be subject to a criminal investigation.
  12. When you're a Tory PM and even the Daily Heil is using words/phrases like "Sleaze", "Demean Deomcracy" and "Moral Bankrupcy" I don't think they had any choice but to about face. Johnson has a direct line to the editors of some of these papers and if they're willing to put things like that in print you can only imagine what's being said on this behind the scenes.
  13. How many hours is it since the vote? Surely a record even for this lot.
  14. Oh yes definitely it's all pretty **** despicable but I'm not as outraged by this as I was about some of the other things mentioned...It's all just become so commonplace now. It's like we're living in a completely broken country. A total banana republic.
  15. I mean, this is bad, but is it really "a new low"? Remember when they lied to the queen and had parliament dismissed so they could avoid any scrutiny of their horrible Breggzit shambles? Remember when Theresa May was facing down a no confidence vote and reinstated the whip to an MP that was suspended from the party facing sexual assault allegations? I'd argue both of those were way worse than this. Disgusting and shameless though it is. Especially the timing of it during COP when they know it won't get the headlines it should.
  16. Not to mention it's probably the first time in human history the scientists haven't had to fight every step of the way for funding. It's amazing what can get done when money is no object.
  17. Does it? It means you have appropriate electoral composition from a date in mid 2016 but the farther away you get from mid 2016 the less relevant that becomes. You say they’ll drop it after the next election because it’s not relevant any more but it’s already irrelevant right now. Regardless, I’m not sure they will drop it. They’ll continue to reinforce this perception that the country is still 52-48 because it suits an agenda that all this horrible nasty stuff that’s happening is exactly what you all voted for and is completely legitimate and normal.
  18. I think because a lot of the polling done now suggests if that referendum were held tomorrow knowing what we know now they all suggest a very different result means that artificially weighting your respondents to the result of that referendum immediately gives you a skewed outcome. Its like saying I’m going to weight my respondents based on the voting % from the election of 1997. You’ll get a load more labour people, less tories and thus a completely wrong outcome even though a lot of that original % for labour have either died off or changed to another side. It’s a really bonkers methodology. The question has to be asked - when are the media, polling organisations and the public going to stop being defined by a crazy day in 2016 and look at the here and now?
  19. Starman will definitely have that effect
  20. Yep I saw the same thing. It seemed (as in the fishing industry) to be driven primarily by good old anti-French xenophobia. I just can’t have any sympathy for any of them.
  21. I seem to remember a lot of farmers being very pro brexit because they were upset about subsidising others through CAP so frankly these guys can **** off. Reap what you sow my friends.
  22. A lot didn't last Christmas either as the rules changed so much on a daily basis that pretty much everyone I know decided to just do what they would normally, within reason.
