  1. Nope. The combination of El Ahmadi and Holman covers everything Milner would ever do for us in central midfield.
  2. Umm...what? His role has been filled by our new look central midfield. We don't need him.
  3. He offers less in defense than El Ahmadi and less in attack than Holman and they both have at least the same workrate as Milner.... ... so why do we want him, exactly?
  4. It's not often I agree with Big John.... ... but he's right. Holman can do many things, but he is not a winger and should not be played there. We really could use another wide man.
  5. Interesting. Those of you who say the ban should happen because the child has no say in the practice.... ... I assume you all feel the same way about abortion?
  6. Go on then, who do we need? ? I go on holiday to Australia on Monday evening, so I'll be away from the internet for a good couple of days, so I'll probably miss the official confirmation. Yep - no internet down here. :winkold: If you're away from the internet, you going walkabout?
  7. Happy with Lambert but would have preferred Martinez or OGS. We badly need a change in our playing style from the old British "rush" we have deployed for most of the last decade. I'm not yet convinced Lambert will or can do that.
  8. Well the players in the A-League sure look sharp Bwahahahaha Thing is, the standard of football in the A-League is better now than it has ever been. Thankfully, Holman has never played in the A-League.
  9. Would've come in very handy last season, and we'd also know by now whether he was good enough or not. Nope. He'd have gotten head cramps watching the ball constantly sail over his head from the back. Not the right player for the kind of tactics we employed last season. Lambert, on the other hand, should be able to get good use out of him.
  10. I don't know him that well, but surely 3-4 million is not enough for Gareth? :winkold: I'd settle for 3-4 million if part of the deal includes Richard going too. :winkold:
  11. always had him as a Aussie Dirk Kuyt Bit of both. Huge workrate. Great engine. Can put the odd one away but not the most naturally gifted player when on the ball. Will be all over the park but usually in a more offensive role. Oh, and he just won the Aussie PFA "player of the year" award.
  12. True.... ....so long as you don't count all the kiwis in the dole queue. :winkold:
  13. Really I see him more as a Box to box. Lots of energy, all action midfielder.. That'd be Holman. :winkold:
  14. A central midfield trio of Ireland, Holman and Makoun/Petrov wouldn't be half bad.
  15. I've often wondered about that. Does it show ambition to leave and go to a bigger club? Or does it show ambition to stay and make something more of your current situation? Now substitute Martinez for Milner. Or Young. Or Barry. Still think the same?
  16. Help me out here. I know a little bit about Martinez: his playing style, his control over the club from youth to first team, his working with Swansea(?) before Wigan, his loyalty to his club. I know bugger all about Lambert. Can somebody give me an overview?
  17. Yeah - that's pretty much where we are at. Also, Martinez has a reputation for overhauling the entire playing squad from youth up to first team to get them playing the same style. This is something we really need.
  18. No - Southgate's former defensive partner has also ruled himself out of contention. :winkold:
  19. Hmmm. Martinez to give a press conference on Tuesday announcing his decision about his future... Please make it so. All those wondering "why Martinez?" since he's done nothing but keep Wigan up.... .... our last manager has a track record of sending teams down, so it's at least a step in the right direction :winkold:
  20. Whatever happened to forward planning and contingency planning? The exit of AMC was predictable for a very long time before it actually happened. Surely it's not too much to ask for the board to be prepared for this, and to have a firm idea of who they want - then go out and get them? Pro-active or re-active? What a way to run a business! And that contingency planning can only last 1 week? The departure of Dagliesh hasn't affected things? This isn't FM. Things don't just happen overnight.
  21. I don't understand why it's so important to get a new manager right now. It's been what? A week since the ginger mug left? So what we want is the board to run out and get the first available candidate? Given their recent track record (especially given their last appointment) is this knee-jerk reaction really what fans want? Preseason doesn't start for a few weeks (months?) yet. Getting the right manager in place is much, much more important than getting someone now.
